FuriousFox46 Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 I was talking to my friends earlier about strange football rivalries and got me thinking that I wanted to do a blog on it.Does anyone have any examples?By obscure, I mean not fuelled by current league position or geographical proximity etc.A prime example being Sheffield United and West Ham.
Jimothy Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 Most obvious would be Brighton Crystal Palace. Obviously the recent play offs have stoked it up a bit, but it was thir before that.
Voll Blau Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 Leeds v Chelsea, Leeds v Man United, F*rest/Mansfield v any former Yorkshire mining strongholds
Jimothy Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 Leeds v Chelsea, Leeds v Man United, F*rest/Mansfield v any former Yorkshire mining strongholds Leeds v Man Utd is surely geographical, as would be Forest Mansfield?
Voll Blau Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 Leeds v Man Utd is surely geographical, as would be Forest Mansfield? Leeds Man U arguably, what I menat was Forest OR Mansfield against any of the Yorkshire clubs.
lavrentis Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 Leeds and Galatasaray. Wouldn't call it obscure. TBH, I hate Galatasary because of that. To this day it is an injustice. RIP to those 2 Leeds fans, Chris and Kevin.
Jimothy Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 Leeds Man U arguably, what I menat was Forest OR Mansfield against any of the Yorkshire clubs. Ah sorry misread it as Forest and Mansfield.
Fox92 Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 Wouldn't call it obscure. TBH, I hate Galatasary because of that. To this day it is an injustice. RIP to those 2 Leeds fans, Chris and Kevin. Neither would I to be fair, but I just put it because they aren't in the same league, and neither are they close. A bit like Juventus and Liverpool really. I didn't mean it to come across as anything else, and yes I agree, RIP to the two Leeds fans.
Corky Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 Charlton and Sheffield Wednesday. Or maybe that's just Lamby.
Finnegan Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 Leeds and Galatasaray. There's not really anything obscure about that. The Turks are mental and attack everything that moves and - whilst I loathe them - Leeds are fairly right to hold a grudge!!
Guest Bilo Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 Derby-Leeds.(Brian Clough slating Leeds throughout his time at Derby, chronicled in The Damned United) Rangers-Aberdeen. (Competing for the same honours during Ferguson's time at Aberdeen and some controversial autobiography quotes) Mansfield-Chesterfield. (Hangover from Miners' Strike. There'll be plenty of 'Scab' chants coming from the Field Mill away end) Sunderland-Coventry. (Coventry once allegedly colluded with Bristol City on the last day of the season to save each other from relegation at Sunderland's expense) Boston-Dagenham. (Boston fielded ineligible players and had dodgy finances, won the Conference ahead of Dagenham and escaped with a small points deduction)
Zingari Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny . I mean WTF is all that about ? Surely there are more loads rabbits about for him to catch !! The same goes for Wile E Coyote and Roadrunner Let it go FFS !!!
bovril Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 There's not really anything obscure about that. The Turks are mental and attack everything that moves and - whilst I loathe them - Leeds are fairly right to hold a grudge!! Sure Galatasary aren't known for their hospitality, but walking into a rough area in Istanbul and wiping your arse with the Turkish flag is never clever.
bovril Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 Coalville v King's Lynn? Ha! Went to this one last year. I'm a Lynn fan but we do have a larger than average percentage of pond life following us. We were supposed to sign an ex Coalville player last week but he pulled out of the deal after abuse from fans on the KLFC forum!
Vacamion Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 Rangers-Aberdeen. (Competing for the same honours during Ferguson's time at Aberdeen and some controversial autobiography quotes) Yes these are factors, but in addition to these, Neil Simpson (Aberdeen) carried out what I am told was a horror tackle on Ian Durrant (Rangers) in 1988. Durrant was left unable to play for 3 years and sued Simpson, who settled out of court. If there was bad blood before it, there was crowd violence every game after it...
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 Coalville v King's Lynn? What's the reason for this one then? Genuinely quite curious.
