BlueSi13 Posted 22 July 2013 Posted 22 July 2013 Something tells me this game will mean a heck of a lot more to one set of supporters that the other. Either way it's a lose-lose game for England that couldn't have come at a worse time. I can't recall the country ever caring less of a shit about the national team than now? Watching them play at Wembley is like watching a funeral, the players don't want to play for England, they have no pride in their country, its culture, history, and reputation, and the fans are just there because they got free tickets or want to check out Wembley whilst not giving a flying **** about the 11 blokes in white huffing and puffing about the pitch desperately wishing that they were somewhere else. It will be England Vs the Republic of Ireland mark II.

On another thing you brought about wembley i agree on that aswell, the place is dead! I can remember a few years ago before the new wembley was built England at to play an important game against Turkey, for the euro 2004 qualifiers at Sunderland. The atmopshere was electric and one of the best atmosphere's i've ever heard at an home england game. Wembley is soleless, it's called the national stadium but only Londoners can get easily, the rest of us as to either spend a fortune to travel down there or miss out and making do, watching it on tv.
Narborough_fox Posted 22 July 2013 Posted 22 July 2013 Watching England is not one of my main sporting priorities, way down the pecking order. If we lose to this team, then English football really is in a sh*t state. Excuse me? We beat the team 4th in the world (at the time) away from home with a weakened team due to injuries, suspensions etc. We aren't that bad! Don't get why we're talking a 29 man squad unless it's only a provisional squad. Can see a surprise because, as others have said, it'll be our biggest game of the year(s) and we'll be right up for it. Still think England will win but just hoping we put up a good performance.
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 22 July 2013 Posted 22 July 2013 Gives the Jocks something to talk about, I suppose.

When the players start taking it seriously again, I might. You keep cheering on players who'd rather be on a beach in Brazil in 2014 than a football pitch if you want though.
Vacamion Posted 23 July 2013 Posted 23 July 2013 This is their cup final. Make no mistake. It is massive up here. When you can't get to a major finals, a game against the ten times more populous noisy neighbours from the country that the BBC think are the only country in the isles takes on a lot of importance. If Scotland win, they will bang on and on about it. Much to my personal discomfort. Given what went on in Manchester a few years back, I imagine this will be very tightly policed, too. I wish it was not taking place, to be honest.
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 31 July 2013 Author Posted 31 July 2013 Hodgson is going to get two chances to beat Scotland: England boss Roy Hodgson is to take charge of the country's under-21 side for one match as the search continues for Stuart Pearce's successor. Hodgson will lead the under-21s against Scotland at Bramall Lane on 13 August. "There is an opportunity while the recruitment process goes on to work with this squad and it is something I very much wanted to do," said Hodgson. Pearce's contract was not extended after England lost all three games in June's European Under-21 Championship. Hodgson will take charge of the England senior side against Scotland the evening after at Wembley as usual. The Football Association are advertising for a "proven leader with a wealth of coaching experience" to replace Pearce with former Portsmouth, Blackpool and Blackburn manager Michael Appleton, the FA's former head of elite development Gareth Southgate and England Under-20 coach Peter Taylor all linked to the post. The FA expect to fill the position before the European Championship qualifier against Moldova on 5 September. The meeting with Scotland, which is part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of anti-racism campaign Kick It Out, is England's only match before then. "I watch the under-21 fixtures and I was in Israel for the European Championship but, as a coach, nothing can beat the training field and the team hotel for getting to know players properly," added Hodgson. "In a World Cup year it makes absolute sense while there is the chance to do it." Pearce claimed his side's poor performance in the European Championship was down to the players, with goalkeeper Jack Butland agreeing. However the Football Association opted not to renew their agreement with the former Manchester City boss, ending his six-year stint in charge of the side.
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 4 August 2013 Author Posted 4 August 2013 Growing ticketing concern as England v Scotland struggles to sell out The Football Association has defended its ticketing policy for England’s first meeting with Scotland for 14 years after it emerged the game was in danger of not selling out. The FA had been confident of a full house when it decided to allow only England supporters who had previously attended the side’s matches to apply for the Aug 14 game, which was arranged to mark the governing body’s 150th anniversary. A spokesman said last month the FA expected the game to sell out “fairly quickly†but, with less than two weeks to go, there are still around 10,000 tickets remaining. The FA is refusing to release those for general sale, having admitted one of the reasons for limiting applications to England fans who had attended previous games was to prevent Scotland supporters buying seats in the home end. It also has no plans to increase the allocation of 20,000 tickets given to the Scottish Football Association in an attempt to limit those travelling to official supporters groups. The FA spokesman said: “I don’t think we should be ashamed of that and suddenly change a ticketing strategy to sell a remaining 6,000-7,000 if that is still the case by this time next week. “The benefits don’t outweigh the benefits of keeping it among a closed group for both our fans and Scotland fans. Is it enough of a benefit to have them sold and not know who is buying them?†Mark Perryman, convener of LondonEnglandFans, claimed the FA’s failure to sell out the Scotland game exposed a wider problem. He said: “The support has been in decline since 2010, because the team is playing poorly and other sports are doing considerably better.†Telegraph
Dan Posted 4 August 2013 Posted 4 August 2013 I can see us drawing this and that would be nothing short of a disgraceful embarrassment.

purpleronnie Posted 8 August 2013 Posted 8 August 2013 20k Jocks!! Jesus!! Bet they'll be more scattered about.
Tielemans63 Posted 8 August 2013 Posted 8 August 2013 Pleased for Lambert but with all due respect, that's a pathetic pool of strikers to choose from. To think at euro 96 you had Shearer, Sheringham, Ferdinand, Ian Wright, Robbie Fowler to choose from. (I appreciate this was 17 years ago but still!)
The Year Of The Fox Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 This may be the first time we'll hear two decent attempts of the national anthems
Finnegan Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 This may be the first time we'll hear two decent attempts of the national anthems BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Guest MattP Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Am I the only one that hopes it doesn't sell out just to show the Jocks how irrelevant we think they are? BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I really hope if that happens 70,000 Englishman stand and applaud the Scottish anthem.
purpleronnie Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 I quite like flower of Scotland anyway Me too class. They'll boo surely, won't bother me, it'll just shows them up to be morons. I very much doubt the scottish fans will care if it sells out, they'll be on the piss and having a good time.

Bert Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Scotland are one of the few teams that are shitter than England.Amongst another 150 odd, you are correct.
Bert Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 If Scotland win, there will be the biggest over reaction. If England win, it'll be "well it was only against Scotland".
Guest MattP Posted 9 August 2013 Posted 9 August 2013 Sadly, the away anthem will always come first. Shame, because that would be a fantastic comeback. Sure we could switch it sneakily for a game. It happened in the NHL finals and it was brilliant. The Candians booed the US anthem and in the return in Boston teh home crowd just went mental to the Candian one, singing it, cheering, applauding, throwing flowers on the rink.
