Spitting in the Street

It should be illegal, apart from being disgusting it is a public health issue, with Tb on the rise it could become a much bigger issue. when I lived abroad in French cultural areas all public places had "Defense de cracher" signs spitting forbidden.

I'm disgusted with the Leonardo Di Capri hit movie Titanic. I've not seen it because I'm male, but just watched a spitting montage on Youtube and he's teaching some young lady to cannon some phleghm out to sea. Americans have got alot to answer for.

It's a sad sign of the times - there's too many brainless people doing it nowadays, mainly for little to no reason at all (unless there's a medical theory which proves that spitting can make you smarter).

A very disgusting act of non-noblesse, particularly when executed in public - alongside the disposal of used chewing gums on public sidewalks and in other public spaces.

 

I think it's an age thing. Whereas it used to be something to be done by the common man or peasants maybe, the kids of today do it because they look well hard.

There's nothing wrong with spitting in outside public areas.

 

If I get some insect or dust etc in my mouth, my natural instinct is to spit it out (obviously).

i'd wager you'd get told off for spitting in a shop or the shires for example so it isnt right you should do it in the street.

 

its like dog shít though, its disgusting but nothing is done about it so you just have to suck it up. (not literally)

It's not nice. It should be frowned upon but illegal? That's crazy. There are far worse things on the street than saliva and phlegm.

I think that's just about right. We all need to expectorate sometimes and it's not pleasant to have to swallow it .

So if everyone just tried to be a little to be discrete I can't see any need for new laws .

99% of the time there is absolutely no reason for it. Only times I have ever done it have been when I've had a stinking cold and you hack up what likes brain, or I've got seriously bad hayfever and I've not had a tissue to use.

 

Used to notice it mainly from young kids, but when I worked down Belgrave Road I was shocked at how is seemed perfectly acceptable for even the elderly asians to hack up and spit it on the floor cm's from where you are stood. Clearly a cultural thing,  I have never seen an old granny with their purple rinse and perm walking round gobbing on the floor before that!

 

Never understood why that sound is necessary before every single spit? We all need to 'hock a loogie' sometimes but if you genuinely need to do it every single day then surely you need a chest examination pronto.

I've noticed that quite a few people nowadays do 'the sniff' sound when they are being hard.

 

Sometimes you've got to spit, but you should do it as out of the way as possible and not near anyone. Preferably in a bush or grass.

 

If I've got to do it I wait for a road drain and try and thup it through one of the gaps.

Disgusting - yes. But sometimes it is necessary, unfortunately, some small-minded people gob in the walkways instead of into drains or bushes (I find this alright).

I find it amazing how some people can be so open and public with spitting in the street, I guess I'd be okay if everyone was discreet and did it when noone was looking but some people just don't care
