Parafox Posted 25 July 2013 Posted 25 July 2013 The government apparently intend to bring in legislation to make this abhorrent practice illegal. But spitting in public isn't confined to the streets, maybe it should be outlawed in all public areas and arenas. How do we deal with cultures within our society where spitting is an accepted practice?

Not in the street, but through my work I get a lot of grass, dust, etc in my mouth. I'll make sure nobody is watching & clear my mouth. It's when you see people doing it for the hell of it.......like they can't help themselves. I don't mind seeing it on a football pitch & in other sports. It's not pretty to see, but I can understand it.......unless you're El Hadji Diouf or Frank Rijkaard

I loathe it and think it's disgusting. I proceeded to get into an argument with a girl on my status, where she said that it should be allowed because of people from different cultures having it as part of where they are from. I stated my views and was then got called all names under the sun for being against it and not being "educated" on the subject of spitting. oh and I was accused by the same girl as being a "racist" cos I said it isn't part of legal British culture to gob phlegm on the street. She didn't agree. Ha! Anyhow, it's disgusting and shouldn't be allowed. Simple as that.
Parafox Posted 25 July 2013 Author Posted 25 July 2013 It's becoming a practice rife amongst teenagers where they will just randomly drool onto the path. Even worse, I've noticed lots of young girls doing the same. It's not even like they need to clear their throats, it's more of a habit.

Only times I have ever done it have been when I've had a stinking cold and you hack up what likes brain, or I've got seriously bad hayfever and I've not had a tissue to use. Used to notice it mainly from young kids, but when I worked down Belgrave Road I was shocked at how is seemed perfectly acceptable for even the elderly asians to hack up and spit it on the floor cm's from where you are stood. Clearly a cultural thing, I have never seen an old granny with their purple rinse and perm walking round gobbing on the floor before that!

The area of the Uni I work in is right next to WQE College, and all their scummy pupils come onto our campus to smoke and phlegm everywhere. They all seem to do it likes it's totally normal - since when has this started? No one I used to know at school would just spit everywhere, why would you?

Or course people doing it out of some twisted habit need their manners pointing in the right direction rather than being fined by the police. At this rate we will soon be told when to sleep, wake, eat, shit, ****, fart and fandango.
