Finnaldo Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 Surprised this isn't up yet. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23536425 Picked up for the development squad apparently. I'm guessing this is some kind of marketing scheme, would probably help Doncaster make sh!tloads. Although surely it would clash with tours? Strange situation. Opinions?
ousefox Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 Yeah just marketing bollocks. He'll never play for them
Jace Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 If this is true then Serge Pizzorno at least deserves a place on the bench for Leicester
Fox92 Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 16/1 to make just one appearance I think. You never know, John Ryan played a game for them!

Tom17LCFC Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 Clever idea tbf, I can imagine all of these one direction fans (leicesterpool I'm looking at you) will increase the club's merchandise sales.
Dan Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 Clever idea tbf, I can imagine all of these one direction fans (leicesterpool I'm looking at you) will increase the club's merchandise sales. I'd rather go penniless. Shameful.
Guest Bilo Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 RIP football. Bit much. Football didn't die after similar publicity stunts in the past, and this one seems to be for better motives than others. He'll get a few minutes in a Capital One Cup game or on a Tuesday night against Burnley, I don't see it as a massive deal.

Guest MattP Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 Ffs. This is sort of shit we are going to get now isn't it? Celebs rocking up to play reserve games under the guise of charity. Embarrassing to the game.
Guest Bilo Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 Apart from making a mockery of the sport that is. I'd agree with you if he was going to be first name on the team sheet for the season, but let's put it into perspective. The amount of actual game time he'll get will make Marko Futacs and Leon Crncic look like Kasper and Wes. He's not going to be depriving a professional or academy player of their career or regular spot in the team, he'll get a token run-out when Doncaster are 3-0 up/down with four or five minutes to go. It's a publicity stunt, it's all a bit silly and I wouldn't want it to catch on but it needs putting into context. That won't stop me taking the piss, but that's because I don't take it seriously enough as a threat to the integrity of the game.

Guest MattP Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 This. Sad that you'll actually get fans defend it. Truly unbelievable. Give an inch take a mile. Testimonials used to be the scene for this, now it will be reserves etc. Ten years we'll probably end up with lower league clubs shifting out z listers for league cup games for money. Very rocky road and should be nipped in the bud immediately.
Finnaldo Posted 1 August 2013 Author Posted 1 August 2013 Getting the shat on on twitter. No surprises really. I'm worried that it will catch on and you get less controversial celebrities involved in this, then we're fvcked.
The Doctor Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 The ****? Yeah, he won't actually play properly, it's just a marketing gimmick, but he's taking away a development squad place that could have gone to an actual youth prospect rather than a pr stunt.
kingfox Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 Feel bloody offended. Can't even spread my love for One Direction.
SystonFox Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 I'm lazy can someone sum up for me what the craic is here? Is he signed on for the firsts or the stiffs? If he plays a game a charity gets a million quid? From who? Doncaster Rovers are cvnts
Mike Oxlong Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 We should sign Rusty Lee and Roy Cropper. Solving the revenue stream and striker problems in one fell swoop.
