Webbo Posted 13 September 2013 Posted 13 September 2013 Seeing as Skeggy is getting a bit of stick I thought I'd start this to see people preferences, best and worst. Really like the Norfolk coast,Yarmouth, Wells next the Sea, Cromer etc. Worst place I've ever been was Porthcawl, like Coalville on sea. Shitty town centre, bookies, sex shops and charity shops and not much else. It pissed it down all weekend too.
Guest MattP Posted 13 September 2013 Posted 13 September 2013 Like Torquay, St Ives, Bournemouth and Norfolk (excluding Skeggy). I always have a good time wherever I go but Margate, Blackpool and Wales need serious levels of alcohol intake.
bovril Posted 13 September 2013 Posted 13 September 2013 Like Torquay, St Ives, Bournemouth and Norfolk (excluding Skeggy). I always have a good time wherever I go but Margate, Blackpool and Wales need serious levels of alcohol intake. Skeggy aint Norfolk. Grew up in Lynn, always went on a Sunday to Hunstanton, Holkham or Cromer. Much of North Norfolk is so wankified now, like Chelsea on Sea. I've been back for two weeks now indulging my inner Mallick. It's such a beautiful area. Those big skies....
Smudge Posted 13 September 2013 Posted 13 September 2013 Just about anywhere in Dorset, Devon Cornwall, Pembrokeshire, Northumberland and the Llyn Peninsular in North Wales would rate as the best places. I wouldn't consider anywhere else for a long holiday. I can't stand Blackpool. Like Torquay, St Ives, Bournemouth and Norfolk (excluding Skeggy).I always have a good time wherever I go but Margate, Blackpool and Wales need serious levels of alcohol intake. Skeggy is in Lincolnshire
purpleronnie Posted 13 September 2013 Posted 13 September 2013 Apart from the ones already mentioned, Penzance.
Guest MattP Posted 13 September 2013 Posted 13 September 2013 No idea why I said that. Add Weymouth to a list of good ones as well.
ADK Posted 13 September 2013 Posted 13 September 2013 Depends what you like really. If you like 'resorts' I'd really suggest just going to a Mediterranean island. The British coast line is very beautiful though.
Finnegan Posted 13 September 2013 Posted 13 September 2013 Hahahaha, absolutely nothing wrong with Porthcawl and Barry!! That's my childhood that is!! To be fair, we tended to go to Pendine, Saundersfoot and Tenby far more. Tenby's great, in my opinion. When we moved to England it was usually Hunstanton, that's quite nice.

The British coast line is very beautiful though. I went with a Bulgarian and a Greek friend to the British coast and they couldn't believe how beautiful it is, the huge sandy beaches, the big skies, the little fishing villages and pubs. If the water was warm and it was slightly cheaper it would be unbeatable!
Jon the Hat Posted 13 September 2013 Posted 13 September 2013 St Ives, Marazion, Mousehole, Kynance Cove.
Larry_LCFC Posted 13 September 2013 Posted 13 September 2013 Weymouth/Portland all day long. Awesome place.
Filberts Treat Posted 13 September 2013 Posted 13 September 2013 Skeggie is actually a nice place. Nice buildings. People calling it are jumping on the bandwagon... Torbay is really nice, Torquay, paignton and Brixham all good.

The only way I can respond to that is with this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADtADJOJZUU Skegness is a shithole, with sticky pavements, screaming kids and a load of ****in chavs.
Alf Bentley Posted 13 September 2013 Posted 13 September 2013 Anyone been to Folkestone and got any opinions (negative probably)? It's where I grew up to age 18. I was really amused a couple of years back when my sisters-in-law from Hinckley went on some cheap package break in Folkestone and came back horrified, saying how rough it was! Always was an odd place: plenty of Daily Mail-reading blue-rinse women and crusty ex-army officers...but also plenty of drugs-on-sea, long-term unemployed and career petty criminals, too. Retain an affection for the place, but wouldn't want to live there. Still better than Dover, mind - Dover = Grimsville-on-sea Was in North Norfolk this summer - very decent, though probably wouldn't suit someone much younger. The North Cornwall coast offers great variety - everything from beautiful, rugged cliff walks to sandy beach resorts (liked Perranporth), abandoned tin mines & fishing villages - & St. Ives is pretty and interesting without being spoiled (not sure the same can be said about Padstow) Enjoyed life in Brighton when I lived there for a year in 1989, but I have the impression that it's yuppified a bit since then.
Guest Electric Yetis Posted 13 September 2013 Posted 13 September 2013 Weymouth by far the best in my opinion. Portland Bill & Lulworth Cove nearby are really nice places.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 13 September 2013 Posted 13 September 2013 Inverness (not seaside in the traditional sense, but certainly on the coast), Portree, Tenby (when the Stag/Hen does aren't in town), and some already said - St Ives, Wells-Next-The-Sea. Ones I don't like - pretty much the entire Lincolnshire coast, Newquay (which is Skeggy in Cornwall - though I love Fistrall beach), Cromer (which is deathly boring!) and Tenby (when the Stag/Hen does are in town)
ScouseFox Posted 13 September 2013 Posted 13 September 2013 Weymouth/Bournemouth & all the places round Norfolk are great.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 13 September 2013 Posted 13 September 2013 Like Torquay, St Ives, Bournemouth and Norfolk (excluding Skeggy). I always have a good time wherever I go but Margate, Blackpool and Wales need serious levels of alcohol intake. St.Ives is lovely, but so are most of the Cornish coastal places. I really love Mousehole and Polpeiero, nice and quiet. St Ives is fine for night life.
Voll Blau Posted 13 September 2013 Posted 13 September 2013 Cromer, Sheringham, and places in that are were decent as a kid. Hunstanton and Skeggy were classic resorts too. The area around Salcombe in Devon is absolutely mint in the sunshine.
absolutelegend Posted 13 September 2013 Posted 13 September 2013 Like Torquay, St Ives, Bournemouth and Norfolk (excluding Skeggy). I always have a good time wherever I go but Margate, Blackpool and Wales need serious levels of alcohol intake. Geography isn't your strong point. And Wales is rather a large generalisation.
Leicfox Posted 13 September 2013 Posted 13 September 2013 I live just outside of Blackpool and there's always something to do or watch, a lot are free events too. Just off out in a minute down to the prom to watch the world firework championships, it's China's turn this week. Blackpool gets my vote as the best.
