indierich06 Posted 12 November 2013 Posted 12 November 2013 People talk of 'nipping it in the bud' like we as the fans have any remote say in what happens! Yeah, we can moan - what good did it do Cardiff? What good did it do Southampton? The only to stop them doing what they want is for all fans to vote with their feet - which will never happen, not in a million years. Football lost its history and tradition when it put money above eveything else and whored itself out to the highest bidder. Everything that's coming now is a consequence of that, and it'll continue to happen, and everyone will still turn up week in, week out to see the whole thing happen before their very eyes.

indierich06 Posted 12 November 2013 Posted 12 November 2013 Just bend over and part your bum cheeks, don't forget to say thank you! That's what football fans have been doing for the past decade, now that they're realising it might not be a good idea, it's too late. We've been royally ****ed.
Finnegan Posted 12 November 2013 Posted 12 November 2013 Actually it's been the last two seasons Did they not have pinstripes last year?
Jimothy Posted 12 November 2013 Posted 12 November 2013 Did they not have pinstripes last year? I don't think those pinstripes can be classed as stripes in the classic Southampton style. You wouldn't have said Leicester was a blue and white striped shirt when we had them a few years back would you?
James. Posted 12 November 2013 Posted 12 November 2013 People happily sit back and watch foreign owners invest in their clubs to bring them the "riches" of the Premier League then go apeshit when they take the next logical step and look to improve the brand. You can't have your cake and eat it - once you set foot on that path it's a one way street. And as per one of the earlier posts the only way to turn around is to boycott fully and with our apathetic attitude will that happen? Will it bollocks. English football sold its soul a long time ago.

I don't get it, which owners should we be against then? How rich is too rich for a football club? It's hardly the next logical step, how does investing in the club naturally lead to a name change? People make out like owners are new. Football clubs have had owners and chairmen for many years.
lavrentis Posted 12 November 2013 Posted 12 November 2013 Rebranding has always gone on in football. Remember Leeds didn't always wear white, it was Revie who introduced it.

I can't see how this will work well enough to justify the name change. Hull are not suddenly going to appeal to the Far Eastern market, whether they are known as City, Tigers, Maulers or whatever the owner wants them to be. If anything, they need to be sustained in the top flight before a potential name change.
Lamby Posted 12 November 2013 Posted 12 November 2013 I suggest just blowing up Hull, it's a shite town and I hate every resident.

My point is that football is headed in one direction and I think rebranding / name changes / kit changes will become the norm not the exception. To change that will take far more than a petition and unfortunately I just don't see fans in this country having the collective conscience as a majority to do what is necessary to stop it. Corky, I'm not saying the name change is a good idea, I'm just saying it's exactly the sort of behaviour we should expect to see more of given the situation we're in. Would love to see a proper movement where fans set up their own clubs in protest... like AFC Wimbeldon but on a massive scale. Never happen though.
ruisliptiger Posted 12 November 2013 Author Posted 12 November 2013 Give us a kiss Lamby. The odd thing about all this foreign owner business is that Allam, in spite of being an Egyptian has lived in Hull since the mid 60's. In my mind that's plenty of time to begin to understand the culture of the place and realise how important the name of the club is to us. Ignorance cannot be used as an excuse. I don't believe that all the fans can do is moan. There a thousands of people in each teams stadiums each week. Amongst them are the dregs of society. There are also Lawyers, Writers, Web Publishers, Successful Businessmen, Printers, Government Officials e.t.c e.t.c. When harnessed properly the combined intellect of pesky customers will far outway the skillset of any set of club employees. It just requires the passion to go through with it. Passion is key and something supporters should have in abundance over employees. If an impact cannot be made perhaps that club does deserve to turned into a caricature. I have 100% confidence that the people in charge of our campaign have the gumption to see this through.
Guest Bilo Posted 12 November 2013 Posted 12 November 2013 As and when this name change occurs, don't bleat about it and go on half-arsed marches through Hull city centre whilst still dutifully buying season tickets. Boycott games, hit them in the pocket. Let them know it's City or nothing.
Fox92 Posted 12 November 2013 Posted 12 November 2013 Rebranding has always gone on in football. Remember Leeds didn't always wear white, it was Revie who introduced it. Exactly what I always say when people overreact about Cardiff. Don't really agree with the change of name, but as a business, football clubs change. Leeds, as mentioned, Manchester United and Arsenal. Well, Arsenal even moved location.
marko Posted 12 November 2013 Posted 12 November 2013 Sounds like the fans' objection to the name change has gone down a storm. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24920893

surrifox Posted 13 November 2013 Posted 13 November 2013 they can call it whatever they want I couldn't give a monkeys but don't stop that chant it's as camp as a row of tents and is great to watch
C-man Posted 13 November 2013 Posted 13 November 2013 If our owner ever said the words "Nobody in the world will decide for me how I run my companies, certainly not a few hundred people" (in respect of LCFC) then it would be goodnight for me until the cretin is removed. I hope Hull fans feel the same. What an absolute cvnt.

If most walk away it won't be felt as they've already put their money in. Apparently, the FA has to approve of a name change and the fans group opposed to this are in contact with them.

Personally if I felt our owner was blindly trampling over what I consider to be my club I'd have to bail on it.Despite the fact he may have a few quid he clearly has no instinct for PR or decency.

Allam came off like a huge cvnt when he first announced the name change, and he's doing so again now.Perhaps a Hull fan would be able to answer this better, but is Allam always this moody? Ken Bates seems like he'd be more cheerful than this guy.

Wow... What a ****. The fans have been, and will be, around longer than him. I wish all the Hull fans didn't turn up, then he'd see the difference fans make to his business.
AyewJoking Posted 14 November 2013 Posted 14 November 2013 sorry, what is the exact reason for the proposed name change?
