Millwall want to sign Waghorn on a permanent deal

Tough one. On the one hand it makes little sense to sell a hard-working young striker who is capable of scoring the odd goal at this level on the back of a performance like Doncaster where we were crying out for other options.

On the other hand we already have a hard-working (fairly) young striker who is capable of scoring the odd goal at this level in Vardy, so it's a case of how many potatoes do you want before you feel the need to spice things up with a bit of sausage.

If him leaving means we can bring a winger in then I'm all for it.

Is that you Big John Steader?

I like him but he's so one footed even more than Dyer and he gets a load of criticism for it.

As an aside is one 'footedness' more noticeable if you're left footed?

Such a shame he couldn't recapture the form that he had from his loan spell here. Waggy is a likable character in the dressing room and with the majority of the fans. When he broke down after missing the penalty in the Cardiff play off semi final, it just showed how much he cared about us and that he wanted to achieve promotion with us. Wherever he does go, I wish him every bit of success for the future.

Mixed feelings.

Clearly a player who needs the motivation of being on loan and needing to impress by the looks of it, wouldn't be surprised to see another big drop in form once a contract is signed up again.

That said he has got ability, no doubt. He'd be a far better replacement than Schulpp up front at the minute who couldn't look less interested in playing for us.

That's nonsense. The fact is that he's only had three runs where he's started as a striker consistently, two of those came while he was on loan and he looked very good, the other was last year for us before he had his appendix out and again he played very well during that run. His drop in form for us was nothing to do with him signing here permanently, it had a lot to do with playing under two managers who didn't really want him, being played out of position and being used as impact substitute when he clearly isn't.

Hope he proves me wrong then at Millwall when he signs on a permanent deal, I like the guy.

I can't agree with 'played very well' on what I saw last year, I thought he did ok at times and was worthy of a place but it was certainly nowhere near the level he was playing at when he was on loan from Sunderland that convinced us he could be worth 3million.

I think the term 'a run of games' is often used as a excuse for players who might not be up to it, Knockaert is in and out of the team all the time but you can usually see his class and influence on the game after 30 mins even when he hasn't had a run of games, Waghorn never showed that.

Will be a shame to see him go but he hasn't really played much over the past couple of years so can we really say that he will be a big loss?  I like the lad and do think if he gets a proper run then he would be good but I can't see him getting picked if he stays.

Shame it is Millwall he is going to though.

"Waggy has realised what the fans are all about here..."  Has he?  Has he REALLY?

I remember in the 09/10 season, the night after the final day at Preston - Waghorn, King, Morrison, Adjarevic and a few others were out on the piss in Life.

I stumbled up to Waghorn, shouted at him "YOU'RE MARTYN WAGHORN - I ****ING LOVE YOU MATE. PLEASE STAY." To which he replied "I'm trying mate, I'm really trying."

I can't help but blame myself for his signing and subsequent chronic misuse by the Sousa's and Sven's of this world. If you read this - I'm sorry Martyn.

Ive always liked waggy. Got a great attitude and always gives 100%. I still think he could come good for us again given a run of games. He started playing really well again for us last season when given a run in the side. Got a cupple of goals and then sods law he gets injured. Getting rid would be a big mistake imo. Id have him over Vardy any day of the week.

I like Waghorn, but I think its best for him and us if he moves on.

He needs regular football and deserves to be playing week in week out  at his age and somewhere like Millwall will give him that opportunity.

We could do with the money and we have two strikers who are similar in terms of what they offer and im sure we could strengthen elsewhere with the extra funds from a move.

Always wanted him to do well but sadly never worked out here, hopefully comes good elsewhere.

It's a real shame that things turned out the way they did. There's no way that Martyn was a Sousa signing. If I remember rightly, he was signed by the owners to appease many fans including myself who were unhappy with the manner in which they came in and changed the manager / backroom staff and went for a completely different style of manager with no real planning or anything beforehand.

In a way, this signing illustrates just how badly the club went about it's business at the time. Clearly not a Sousa signing and he was a panic buy towards the end of the window as we were unable to sign anyone decent up to that point. £3,000,000 for Waghorn lol. As much as I loved Waghorn when he was here in his loan and wanted him to stay, this signing at the time had trouble written all over it.

Of course things wouldn't have turned out so badly and we'd probably be in a much better position now had we never forced Pearson out in the first place, but that's a whole other debate.

Sell him for about 500k, stick in a 1mil buyback clause if he gets firing. Gutted it never worked out absolutely love the bloke, been so professional st such s young age. Hope he does bloody brilliantly in this league (when we're out of it hopefully! !) Just not for millwall

I really do hope that if he is leaving someone else hijacks the deal, Derby, Forest, anyone other than Millwall.

He's been good at Millwall to be fair, do we think he's on a big wage?

No one on here has a clue what ANY of our players earn KF, I get sick and tired of reading that X earns this and Y earns that, he`s on a high wage etc, this is all total bull shine and uneducated guesswork !!!

I think I posted that mi mate (A Millwall fan) said that Waggy has been really good for Millwall. Holding the ball up well and now with two goals.

I still think there's more to come from him, but Pearson I don't think, does, so selling him will probably happen.

He did recapture the form he had whilst on loan last season during that run of 5 games on the trot where he got man of the match every game but then had an appendix problem.  Shame because in those 5 games he showed he's better then Nugent.  Can hold the ball up, assists, and he changed his technique on corners and free kicks last season which made them very dangerous.  Its a shame a club like Millwall will end up with a striker better then what we currently have.  Also he's scored 2 goals from open play this season, which is one more then David Nugent has who's probably on twice as much as Waggy!

Can't see Millwall stumping up 1 million for him and isn't he outta contract in the summer?

He's obviously not wanted anymore so if we can get 500k for him then take it, especially if i'm right that he's outta contract next year?
