Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 1 November 2013 Posted 1 November 2013 The guy with the name Moosedog has reminded me: Whatever happened to maddog from this forum? I miss the "optimeters."
Kent Fox 61 Posted 1 November 2013 Posted 1 November 2013 What's the name of the little boozer near their ground, it's got a back yard if that helps anyone remember. Got to meet folk in there.
Bluetintedspecs Posted 1 November 2013 Posted 1 November 2013 This really is just our next game, a relatively tough one, where in truth I would take a draw right now. Though I have a feeling this actually could be a very good day at the office.
Lionheart Posted 1 November 2013 Posted 1 November 2013 This season we should be expecting to beat Watford away. Come on you Blues.
sdb Posted 1 November 2013 Posted 1 November 2013 Can't put into words how much I hope we win this. I think I'll either cry or throw up at some point during the game. Still don't think last May has sunk in yet.
Guest ttfn Posted 1 November 2013 Posted 1 November 2013 Can't see anything other than a frustrating, narrow defeat tomorrow. 1-0 or 2-1. I think a lot of the ill-feeling towards Watford is misplaced. I don't have a problem with them as a club. They've not broken any rules and had we scored in the same circumstances we'd have been on the pitch in an instant. Just another game with some sad memories, like so many of the grounds in this division now! Still, there is a special place in hell reserved for that PA man. Cvnt.

GingerrrFox Posted 1 November 2013 Posted 1 November 2013 People can say this is just a normal game but the fact is it isn't. Games such as the playoff game last season are how rivalries start and for me I ****ing hate Watford now. They are a bunch of ***** and I can't wait for tomorrow, because if we win, it will be one of the most satisfying victories all season up there with beating teams such as Forest, Derby and Coventry. I ****ing hate Watford. I hate the fact the only reason they are near decent is because they exploit loopholes when in reality they are. Small time. TinPot. *****. No name *****.

And we didn't exploit a loophole to get promoted in 2002/3? Let's not forget that, loophole or not, Watford have been in the Premier League more recently than us. They may not have our history or fanbase (no matter what some of their more mental fans seem to think) but they deserve our respect. Even with their shit derelict stand and hoofball tradition they are a proud club with a strong recent history at this level, a productive academy and a good team for the last eighteen months.

We didn't exploit anything because after that season the Football League decided to place a 10 point deduction on any team going in to administration, we were prevented from bringing players into the club which was the only punishment back then. But even if we had a 10 point deduction we still would have been promoted in 2nd with 82 points because Sheffield United had 80 in 3rd. Watford have basically got an entire squad full of other clubs players, if their owners didn't own Granada and Udinese they would be a run of the mill, shit arse team like Barnsley. Plus the only reason they get round this is because each club is owned by a different member of the Pozzo family. If they didn't do that, they wouldn't get away with all that they have.
LCFC FOX Posted 1 November 2013 Posted 1 November 2013 As I said, he was still better than 3 of the players you mentioned. Well he wasn't

A run of the mill team (in Watford) like Barnsley which has been in the Premier League more recently than us. And you've also managed to reference Barnsley, who as recently as 5 years ago were able to buy our best player off us. I don't see the point you're making in the first paragraph. It's not as simple as saying that you can just take 10 points off us - the whole season would have played out differently. Not only that, but after last season when Watford exploited the loophole you are alluding to, the Football League shut that loophole. Much as they did when we went into admin. Because they realised it was a loophole. And what do authorities do after they see somebody taking advantage of a loophole? They shut it. No difference as I see it. If it goes tits up for Watford then it's their own fault, but until then they've done nothing wrong by the laws of the game, even if it is morally dubious. Much as it was morally dubious for us to fail to pay St Johns Ambulance but keep players of the quality of Izzet on our books in 02/03.

We still had the same players and you nor I can say what the 10 point deduction would do to morale. So by logic taking 10 points of the final total is the only way to say it would have been different because of the change in punishment and we still would have finished 2nd. If the Pozzos didn't have each individual club registered to a different member of their family they would not be able to own all 3 of the individual football teams and wouldn't be able to freely move players between each team. It completely flouts the laws of sporting competition.

Of course I could throw your "argument" back at you by saying that we have no way of knowing how Watford would have fared without the loanees last season. Let's not forget that the previous year they came 11th (only 2 places behind the mighty Leicester) and were improving all the time under Dyche. People have got to get over Watford. If they're as tin pot as you say they are, why get worked up? Reminds me of Forest and Derby fans saying they only hate each other.
Super_horns Posted 1 November 2013 Posted 1 November 2013 Lets be honest - there are very few morals in the game generally be it the way players behave or how owners run their clubs (businesses) I should think most teams could point to a situation when they've tested the fairness and sportsmanship of the game...

I've said for me this game is up there with beating Forest this season because of how we lost last season and how they went about celebrating the win. I can tell you now with FFP there is not a chance in hell they would have half of the players they do have if it wasn't for the ownership situation (each family member "owning" a different club) and that is pretty much common knowledge around the league. The whole flouting of the ownership laws is one of the main reasons that Watford are mutually amongst fans of other clubs one of the most hated clubs currently. As well as now they've got a load of players from Serie A and La Liga they suddenly think they have been the pioneers of playing attractive, possession football when in reality for the best part of a decade they were on par with Stoke for hoofball.
Fox92 Posted 1 November 2013 Posted 1 November 2013 There's always loads of goals... 3-3 under Nige and 4-0 at home, 2-3 under Sven and 4-2 at home, 4-4 and 5-2 in the 90's.
Super_horns Posted 1 November 2013 Posted 1 November 2013 . As well as now they've got a load of players from Serie A and La Liga they suddenly think they have been the pioneers of playing attractive, possession football when in reality for the best part of a decade they were on par with Stoke for hoofball. Is that the kids on Twitter again? Most I know wish we could just get on with moving the ball forwards with some pace than trying to look pretty in midfield and losing it as happened in the past few games to some cost. Losing Abdi has meant we've lost the ability to move the ball quickly and with some quality... I am sure most would accept certainly under Boothroyd we hardly played attractive football but it worked (for a season or so!) Presume you mean some have been complaining about other teams playing "hoofball" etc?

Guest Bilo Posted 2 November 2013 Posted 2 November 2013 A Watford fan since 1983 fair play to you lad must have been an exciting 20 years I find it astonishing he's aged over 12 with the barely literate drivel posted.
Jace Posted 2 November 2013 Posted 2 November 2013 I've just realised I haven't seen anyone refer to Chris Wood as Chris Woods on Foxestalk for ages now, have we reached a turning point?
