SOCCERROO FOX Posted 12 November 2013 Posted 12 November 2013 With out Mexico picking there European based players it does help. But NZ will struggle got a poor goal keeper and their defence isn't as good as 4 years ago when Ryan Neilson was fit. They will play to their strengths which is attack and speed on their wings.
Jordan Posted 12 November 2013 Posted 12 November 2013 For some odd reason the Mexicans haven't selected any players based outside of Mexico which means no Guardado, Javier Hernandez and Dos Santos who are clearly better than some of the domestic players. The FMF and their managers have made a lot of head-scratching decisions over the past few months, and this is another one. Now, to be fair, Gio and Guardado have been atrocious for El Tri lately, and some of Mexico's Europe-based players really need a kick in the ass... But I cannot understand why they would leave anything to chance--even in a game where they are big favorites--considering the stakes. I can see Mexico's defense letting in a goal or two tomorrow, honestly.
Stadt Posted 12 November 2013 Posted 12 November 2013 Rojas and Wood are probably better than Mexico's (domestic) offence
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 12 November 2013 Posted 12 November 2013 Rojas and Wood are probably better than Mexico's (domestic) offence Rojas has been injured and would be a surprise to see any game time in the first game. Same as Smeltz which would mean Wood is more likely to start.

I'd ready he picked the core of the Mexico team around players from the club side he manages, which kind of makes sense when you're the fourth manager in six weeks and haven't had long in the job.

Correct he coaches Club America and there is 10 players out of 22 in the squad from Club America, which probably isn't surprising as they are top of the table in Liga MX.
Leicesterpool Posted 12 November 2013 Posted 12 November 2013 I hope they do make it, am i right in saying most of the team is part time?
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 13 November 2013 Posted 13 November 2013 I hope they do make it, am i right in saying most of the team is part time? 3 of the NZ team are amatuer footballs as the NZ league is an amatuer league. 2 of the players are also with out a club but were pros. Mexico deserve to lose for ending up in the play-off. Don't suppose they will, but I wouldn't be 100% sure....I might have a couple of quid on Mr. Wood to score based on his much-improved performances last couple of matches.
leicsmac Posted 13 November 2013 Posted 13 November 2013 If Mexico can't finish above Costa Rica and Honduras in their group then quite frankly they don't deserve to be at the WC. Also-rans anyway, perennial qualifiers whose job it is to lose in the group stages/second round. At least even though we're also also-rans we (nearly) always get to the QF's... Come on NZ. Let's see some variety.
ozleicester Posted 13 November 2013 Posted 13 November 2013 Mexico are abysmal at the moment and had more managers than us!. Could see NZ holding them and then sneaking in... love to see NZ get through.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 13 November 2013 Posted 13 November 2013 Are any of these qualifiers going to be televised in the UK? England v chile will be a bore.
MC Prussian Posted 13 November 2013 Posted 13 November 2013 Correct he coaches Club America and there is 10 players out of 22 in the squad from Club America, which probably isn't surprising as they are top of the table in Liga MX. It's an odd situation. I mean, which other country is employing a national manager who is simultaneously coaching a national first division team? How are you supposed to divide your time between those two full-time jobs cleverly enough? Is it a deliberate attempt at ruining Mexican national football or to create unrest amongst the FMF and its members?
Alexikokopops Posted 13 November 2013 Posted 13 November 2013 Are any of these qualifiers going to be televised in the UK? England v chile will be a bore. Bayfox Posted 13 November 2013 Posted 13 November 2013 Are any of these qualifiers going to be televised in the UK? England v chile will be a bore. Are you sure about that, Chile can't defend for shit so only have one game plan, attacking, I reckon this could be a winner on BTTS.

The one I quoted was New Zealand vs. Mexico - the second leg in New Zealand. That's definitely on at 6am on Wednesday 20th November. However, it turns out that Premier Sports are also showing the game tonight (which wasn't on the app I was using), and that does indeed kick off at 20:30. http://www.premiersports.tv/football/international/
fuchsntf Posted 13 November 2013 Posted 13 November 2013 NZ..Should play the All Blacks rugby team.....the hacker, would scare the shvt out of them. Mexico have great fans and tradition (lived and married there.ex pat.) but they have qualified Quite a few times, lets see now another team have a go.
Dan Posted 13 November 2013 Posted 13 November 2013 If NZ do qualify, am I right in saying they can be in a group with Australia? As for Knockaert, isn't he dual nationality? Belgium are taking over
Jordan Posted 13 November 2013 Posted 13 November 2013 Solidarity for your big game tonight: Jordan 1 Uruguay 0 (aggregate), Suarez red card. You're going to Brazil... COME ON AL-NASHAMA!!!!!!!!!!Mexico deserve to lose for ending up in the play-off.I hate to say this, on behalf of CONCACAF, because having four teams in our confederation make the World Cup finals--including Mexico--can only be a good thing for the quality of play here. That said, you're right that 2 wins in 10 is in no way, shape, or form World Cup finals-worthy form, no matter what type of qualifying format is used.Edit to say, though, as for my personal fandom, I'd ****ing love it and would piss myself laughing if New Zealand were to beat Mexico. If I'm not mistaken, it's the Mexican club owners themselves that appoint the national team manager. Being El Tri's manager is never a peaceful job, even during good times.
Collymore Posted 13 November 2013 Posted 13 November 2013 Mexico remind me of Leicester. 90% possession, 1456 shots on goal and they will still probably lose.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 13 November 2013 Posted 13 November 2013 Wood booked after 15 mins. Missis 2nd leg?
