Silverdaz Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 Was and Moore are both very good defenders but IMO they are both not full backs where as RDL is and I think we are seriously missing his energy and pace, take last night when Knockaert went off if we had RDL then it would not of been too much of a loss because he would of kept bombing on as a full back and giving Wednesday plenty of problems. I know people will say well he isn't the best of defenders of which I agree but I think he has improved in this area and his pace has caused plenty of teams problems.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 I agree that, as solid as we've been defensively without him (and sometimes he can be suspect defensively although I don't believe as bad as others make out, he's no Peltier), we've missed his pace and attacking runs in an offensive sense.
Corky Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 He's our most naturally attacking right sided player. Yes there are questions about him defensively but he looks confident and composed going forward and would offer balance with Dyer on the left.
DennisNedry Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 He can't even defend though. It's not like we're conceding less goals now he's out though is it?
pazzerfox Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 We miss RDL in the attackling sense. Very good player IMO.
Captain... Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 Big fan of RDL, whether he would have made a difference last night I don't know, but he brings pace and direct running that always causes problems going forwards. I would start him at home, away from home we could start with Moore and bring on RDL if we need an injection of pace, or switch to 532, if we are concerned about his defensive ability.
Silverdaz Posted 4 December 2013 Author Posted 4 December 2013 Strange as it may seem but I think RDL and Knockaert have quite a good partnership going on the right hand side it allows Anthony to roam a bit more freerer
ImBlue Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 He can't even defend though. Disagree. I think if he wasn't told to get forward like he does he wouldn't be caught out as much. When Moore plays and gets forward he got caught out just as much. I think it's just how we play our full backs.
LMlcfc Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 agreed, marcin hasnt the best pace in the world, strange how he all of a sudden played poor, miguel looked nervous and un confident. go out strong on saturday and retain our top position and hopefully break away again.

Knockaert isn't the quickest chap, and in the championship pace causes big problems for defences. All you need to do to find proof of this is look over to Dyer on the left, with his goals and assists. RDL gives us that pace on the right, and allows Knockaert more time for his trickery as defenders can't cope with both pacey attacks and trickery at the same time. Sure, he's weaker defensively, but if we end up scoring more by playing him, it doesn't matter so much if we concede more as well. And if we start with a 4-4-2 we always have the option of switching to either a 3-5-2/5-3-2 if we need to be more attacking/defensive to chase games or see them out.

Good to see you on FT, Youngy!
Kitchandro Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 I'm not a big fan of RDL. Moore at right back was working fine (although it was a shame to move him from centre back where he was so impressive). It was moving Wasilewski out there which was the mistake.
hackneyfox Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 We have plenty of options on the right side of defence, we're lacking on the left.
cityfanlee23 Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 He's our most naturally attacking right sided player. Father Ted Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 People saying that he can't defend is a myth. I'll have to bring the stats out again - apparently they have no place on Foxestalk though and are completely irrelevant when putting forward an argument. IIRC we only conceded 3 (THREE) goals down the right hand side all of last season with RDL there. Man to man, I can't remember him getting beat often. Positioning perhaps suspect but certainly solid enough.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 Two points: 1) RDL copes best when on that right side alone out of RDL, Moore and Wasyl. When Knockaert goes roaming, as he does when he's at his creative best, you need a right back who is able to cope if the ball's shifted out to him with no-one near him in support or no-one ahead of him. RDL can do that. 2) RDL has already won us two penalties this season which proves his value in going forward. With him on the right and Dyer on the left we have two pacey players who can drive into the box with the ball at feet.

Positioning perhaps suspect but certainly solid enough. That stat was misleading, it was based on the where the shot came in, not from where they penetrated the defence, any goals scored from a cross from the left will go down as a goal from the centre even if the fault was RDL at right back. He is not a bad defender, but if he is going to get forward and support the attack then he will be out of position on occasions.
Guest Col city fan Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 I'd play Moore at RB. I like a defensive defender. RDL I'd rotate with Knocky as a right sided midfielder.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 He can't even defend though. That's why I think he's another option to Knocky IMO
Father Ted Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 RDL is not a right winger for me. His technical ability isn't great, he's best running from deep.
LCFC BEAST Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 We have plenty of options on the right side of defence, we're lacking on the left. Bakayago, Miquel & Schlupp?
Trav Le Bleu Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 Because offense is the best form of defense, I think RDL is our first choice RB. He may not be the best defender, but we do a lot less defending when he plays, because he's so much better going forward than Moore or (especially) Was.
hackneyfox Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 Bakayago, Miquel & Schlupp? Will we see Bakayago again? I don't think Schlupp looks that great at LB, I don't think he looks interested this season. Miquel is our only left sided centre half.
