Weller in Tights Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Blue Army Really looking forward to the Derby game. Lets hope for a good crowd (by that I mean a crowd that's up for the game rather than just a large crowd that sit on their hands like against Man City) that plays as the 12th man.
Guest shearfox Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 The annoying thing is, if we did have Gallagher on the bench it wouldn't upset me, he has qualities and he's an option, but not for anything like the things that caller was saying. That is what I thought he was going to say, being him on has an impact player... even then I wouldn't have agreed but it would have been sensible...
martyn Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Not pretty but we ground it out well and were never truly under the cosh as Millwall had no quality. Knocky best player on the pitch and also worked exceptionally hard. GTF good as well, some sublime bits of technique. One particular lay off where he cushioned a hoofed clearance into nugent with the outside of his boot was class as well as an excellent assist.
Bayfox Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 BBC on the boil as usual. David Nugent inspired Leicester to victory over managerless Millwall as the Tigers maintained their four-point lead at the top of the Championship. hulls owner will be pleased.
eastendfox Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Great performance in difficult conditions, I thought they'd come back to 2-2 but we held firm and finished them at the death, brilliant use of squad as well to keep it fresh. Best thing was that we were as physical as you need to be at Millwalll, but also played a bit. Millwalll groundsman deserves some credit though for ensuring good surface.
jarvo83 Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Just on the train back surrounded by Millwall fans!! Ground out the result, wasn't pretty but had the clinical finishing we have been searching for. Knocky MOTM
Mack Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Sitting in London Bridge Station maccy d's trying to dry out. That was a rough physical game of football. I felt Pearson did the right things with team selection and apart from a spell where we went to sleep after we scored the second we played a text book away day performance. Notable mentions for Knockaert, Moore and Nugent who were all at the top of their game today, and our fans who were superb. To the silly little pre pubesant Millwall kids giving it the willy puller signs and the see you outside gestures your club must be so proud of you. What a shit hole that place is and what's left of their support is embarrassing. Onward and upward
Karljohn Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Great result, nice to get maximum points from those Millwall wankers.
ARM1968 Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 3-1 as I said. Can't believe Schlupp scored though. According to my crystal ball it should have been Kasper. I'm asking for a refund. Great result. Just got to keep going.
Lobsterboyuk Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Blimey, did well to hang on at the end there, bless schluppy for not missing that one
Bert Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Wasn't pretty but we matched them up physically and ground out a great away win. Knockaert was the star of the show. Nugent ran himself into the ground, and GTF was absolutely fantastic. We defended well bar their goal and restricted them to long range efforts. We are so resilient this season and it's fantastic. We've sent out a huge message to the rest of the league today.
Guest Col city fan Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Very very good win today and Pearson WAS correct to take the gamble with the squad rotation. Crikey.. we really do have a bloody good shout this season!
Stan Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Great performance in difficult conditions, I thought they'd come back to 2-2 but we held firm and finished them at the death, brilliant use of squad as well to keep it fresh. Best thing was that we were as physical as you need to be at Millwalll, but also played a bit. Millwalll groundsman deserves some credit though for ensuring good surface. This could be so important in the long run. It's great playing the same (winning) team every week, but we can't assume that injuries and/or fatigue won't have an effect over the second half of the season. We need to have some confidence that squad players can come in and do a job when required.
NewburyFox Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Brilliant win today. Pearson knew it was going to be a battle and picked the right team. Wasyl over RDL was the right decision as his added physicality meant that we didn't get bullied at all. With conditions like that it was always going to be a physical game and Hammond and King, Hammond in particular, fought well in the middle of the park. GTF did what GTF does, superb assist for Nugent. Man of the match for me was Knockaert, a goal, assist and worked his socks off. Brilliant. Credit to Kasper too for some important stops in the first half, weren't as easy as they looked with the conditions. Buzzing!
Captain... Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Never change a winning team Really interested in how the midfield got on, have King and Hammond given NP selection problems, or is it going to be back to DD and James for Derby? I expect Vardy to come straight back in, interesting how Nugent was reported to have had a very good game whilst partnered with GTF, whereas he hasn't looked as good with Vardy.
Guest ttfn Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Great three points from a game that was ruined by the conditions. We started very brightly and after 10 minutes or so it looked like a case of "how many?". But to their credit Millwall dug in and have us a good game, particularly after we went 2-0 up. Second half wasn't great from us - the use of the ball in midfield was atrocious apart from by Knockaert, who seemed the only player in the pitch not content to hump it forward at every opportunity. GTF was excellent and this was shown up again by having Schlupp come on. The lad was almost always in an offside position, making it incredibly difficult for him to receive and hold up the ball. I appreciate that coming on in those conditions to harry centre backs is a thankless task but he didn't even look to be trying at times. Even the finish for his goal was a bit sketchy. I still think Schlupp can be a good player for us but clearly he has a lot to learn and today's goal doesn't mask another mediocre showing. To be honest I thought Millwall were worth a point on the balance of play but perhaps it was to be expected that they'd have more of the ball as we looked to play on the break after going 2 up. Certainly both sides struggled to create clear-cut openings and we rarely (if ever) troubled Forde apart from the three goals (as ridiculous as that sounds). We were just more clinical and in GTF and Knockaert had the game's 2 outstanding players. Every time I go to Millwall I am reminded of what an awful bunch of supporters they have. They didn't get behind their team at all apart from straight after scoring. They moan about literally everything. Even mundane things like clear throw-ins to us were met with a chorus of abuse for the officials. Christ knows what was going on in the incident in the far corner at the start of the second half but it didn't look pretty. People say "it's just a minority" but there is a clear culture of hate in that ground every time I go there. The thugs are clearly a minority but the vitriol directed at officials and opposing players is like nowhere else in the country. Anyway, a pleasing win. It's gritty wins like this that promotion campaigns are founded on and there will be times this season when we play a lot better and don't win.
KFS Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Hammond was top drawer today. Him and GTF closed out any threat in the middle.
MC Prussian Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Just on the train back surrounded by Millwall fans!! Ground out the result, wasn't pretty but had the clinical finishing we have been searching for. Knocky MOTM Do you still have all your teeth?
Mickey O'Neil Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Lots of positivity towards GTF which pleases me. I'm not a fanboy, but it's nice to know squad members will give Pearson a bit of a headache* *even though I fully expect Reg Vardy to start against the Sheep
The Horse's Mouth Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 They've changed it to Foxes now thank fvck :xmaslaugh: They've now got rid of the David Nugent part aswell
nlukka Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 I'm now safely back in the comfort of my East London home after venturing down to The Den, and what a godforsaken part of London Millwall is. Really solid away performance today. In what were truly horrible conditions (I'm referring to the weather, as well as being in Millwall itself), we showed real spirit and character. This is the kind of game we've lost in the past because we get bullied out of it, but today we put in our fair share of aggressive tackles and pressed the opposition well. We didn't have many clear sights of goal, but for an away performance we did well to restrict them to mainly long range efforts. The back four coped with the majority of Millwall's hoofballs well and were no-nonsense in clearing the ball out from the back. The pitch seemed quite heavy and so we couldn't pass the ball on the floor as much as we'd have liked, but the upshot of that was not doing anything silly in possession. All of the players that came in to the team today did well, notably GTF for me. He might look like a 40 year-old pub footballer but he showed real class on the ball and lots of experience off the ball. You can see why Nigel bought him, Marcin and Hammond in to the club; experience. And considering our recent record against them, we've taken 6 points this season and have beaten another of our bogey sides. Overall, I thought it was a very disciplined, composed away performance. We might not win any prizes for the football today, but the result keeps us firmly in line for the overall prize at the end of the season. In fact, it was the performance of a side that looks like winning promotion. Great way to start 2014 off.
Babylon Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 *even though I fully expect Reg Vardy to start against the Sheep What an opportunity we have in that game, a win would take us 10 points clear of Derby in fourth (nobody can overtake them). And QPR have a very difficult away trip to Ipswich, with plenty of potential to drop points there. With it being on Friday, a win could see us 7 clear of second, 8 clear of third and 10 clear of fourth come Saturday. Plenty of hard work to do in that game for that to happen. But it would well and truly round off what could be a potentially defining festive period.
