Millwall vs. Leicester Post Match thread 1 - 3

"Leicester do not have QPR's miserly defence, Derby's slick midfield or Burnley's free-scoring strikers, but over the busy festive period they have displayed what their promotion rivals lack - a clinical ruthlessness that wins games."

No we don't....What we do have unlike the others is a team full of 11 quality players, willing to match the opposition independent of style and ability.

Hopefully that's the last time we'll play Millwall for a while. So happy with our club right now, up the foxes!

The last paragraph of Sky Sports write up of our game:

Leicester don't have QPR's miserly defence, Derby's slick midfield or Burnley's free-scoring strikers, but over the busy festive period they have displayed what their promotion rivals have lacked, a clinical ruthlessness that wins games.

What does it take for us to get some decent recognition?

Do they seriously think Derby, a team who have mainly languished in midtable for years apart from a recent run and sit 7 points behind us, have a 'slicker' midfield than ours? lol

Sorry I forgot they became Barcelona because they've beaten the likes of Barnsley and Doncaster.

Derby were completely outplayed by Wigan today apparently. I'm not shocked either. I think whilst their run is undeniably excellent, they didn't beat a single good side (They beat Coyle's Wigan rather than Rosler's Wigan)

We'll see about them next week. Hughes and Bryson are very good players but I fail to believe Hughes has had a better season than Drinkwater. Then again he's become the media's latest target for over-hyping so all substance goes out the window when it comes to discussing the two.

Was a rubbish game really, both sides on the day lacked quality, although the dreadful weather hardly helped.

Still, it's rather comforting that we can go away from home in this league with what was effectively a part-reserve team and still come back with all three points, especially at a ground where our record has been quite poor in recent times. It's testament to the progress the squad has made since last season - think we really look like we could do the business this season (touch wood).

Just a few quick points for people who didn't go to the game:

1. Pearson played a very risky game today in his second half tactics. At 2-1 he decided to stick with Schlupp up front, draw men back and invite pressure. In the end Millwall didn't equalise but it I'd rather we not do this sort of thing as often as we do, particularly away from home. Millwall were pisspoor and sustaining pressure on them would have been an easier (and less risky) way of seeing out the game IMO.

2. Call me a miser, but I'm really struggling to give GTF much credit for his assist and Schlupp much credit for his goal. It didn't look to me like the former initially intended to set up Nugent, and only decided to cut it hopefully back into the box after he badly miscontrolled it off his thigh, and Schlupp's shot was pretty poor to be honest - most keepers in this division would have saved it.

3. Knockaert had a good game, Dyer was dreadful (don't get me wrong though, I still love the guy). King was pretty anonymous.

4. Miquel is not a left back. He's also surprisingly 'route one' for someone who has come from Arsenal.

5. Didn't think we were very loud today (in part due to the numbers), but our songbook was quite varied. Really looking forward to Stoke on Saturday.

Onwards and upwards :scarf:

Well, lets compare the 'slickness' of our midfields.

Knockaert Drinkwater James Dyer

Ward Hughes Bryson Russell

If you choose the latter then you've probably got a severe illness.

Burnleys free scoring strikers? Oh please. They've got ****ing one. Without Ings, Burnley are less than nothing!

Heaton, Trippier, Mee, Shackell, Arfield, Marney, Vokes?

Just to clarify, did Nuge's goal count yesterday? Free header from 6 yards out with no keeper to beat, seems unlikely that it would

Pretty sure it didn't in one of the threads before I am sure someone said headers don't count.

Ah thanks for clearing that up!

Just wanted to know in case I later go on to quote how many goals Nuge got this season and included this one. Don't want to embarass myself lol

They aren't really any more "free scoring" than our strikers though. Sky just enjoys talking bollocks.

Difference is Freedman was playing 4 central defenders against our attack, whereas Pearson played 4 against Millwall's attack. You can't chuck 4 CB's on against a pacey attack like ours, but against Millwall's physical style it worked well and restricted them to mostly long shots.

It wasn't a criticism, merely a small observation about criticism or praise depending on the result. I had nothing bad to say about our line up as I understood it was to combat their hoofball game.

I'd sign Ward as back up for Dyer and Knocky to be honest. I wouldn't bother with the others and Hughes is massively overrated

It wouldn't surprise me if we ended up finishing about 20 points above Derby this season. They collapsed at home against the first decent team, let's see how far they have really come next Friday.

Our midfield completely outclasses theirs, they go on a little run for the first time in years and Sky start claiming they are the best.

The Sheepshaggers haven't played anyone decent yet, well they have but they have lost, we have already beaten them twice this season, 3 times in a row.

lol

The usual lack of appreciation of how good our rivals are playing..

One of my workmates is a Derby fan and commutes from Derby every day. He says that Will Hughes is the best young player hes seen at Derby in years.

And Craig Bryson has got what? 8 goals and 9 assists to his name already this season? Thats not bad is it?

Dont worry lads and lasses..... it is ok to say that another team is actually doing pretty well too..It dont make you any less a 'real fan'

The dismissal of Derby as a flash in the pan is the sort of unnecessary Hubris that has made a lot of people on here look pretty silly already this season.

Agree with all of that although GTF more than justified his place with some of the rest of his play. The holding on tactic would have looked very different if Easter hadn't blown his chance when Kasper had the rush of blood and ran into no mans land. What was that about ffs? A parks team standard payer could have lifted the ball the ball over him
