Missed two golden opportunities against Watford, two massive chances yesterday and even his passing has been off. I'm not normally someone who slags off Nuge however if he plays shit yet again against Ipswich, drop him.
Native Fox Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 Sometimes he does look a bit off it but his goalscoring record cannot be argued with - irrelevant of how many penalties there has been (KP showed last night they're not easy to put away!) As for the Pro-Wood comments - aside from that run when we signed him twelve months ago he's not shown a great deal of promise. I know he's been out injured this season but people are quick to forget that he was also culpable during our detrimental run of form at the end of last season. Watch that fantastic Knocky goal at the City Ground which put us in the play-offs. I know ultimately Wood did the right thing by passing to Knocky but any confident striker would have had a go themselves. I'm not criticising Wood for passing, I'm just saying it shows his frame of mind at the time. The grass is greener I think for some people. Nuge is the best man for the job and with the teams coming up he deserves to retain his starting place. Another point - those saying that Wood may have come on last night. We brought a striker on. If NP had a great deal of confidence in Chris Wood then it would have been him on the pitch and not KP. Personally I'm glad Pearson brought KP in and I'm glad he uses him in those situations ahead of Chris Wood. I think he might be the difference at the end of the season. It's not irrelevant at all. Come on. Granted scoring a penalty isn't easy, but it isn't hard either - It's 50 - 50 chance and Nugent's record this season pretty much proves that. Penalties are a bonus, you don't get them every game, you cannot rely upon them. You have to take your chances in open play, for the most part this season, Nugent hasn't taken them chances. He has been incredibly wasteful. I think the majority of positives from the Nugent - Vardy link-up comes from Vardy. Wood/Phillips/GTF would have done more with the chances Nugent has had this season, I'm sure of it.

He must have been playing really well to get double digits assists and almost twice as many assists as any other player in our side.

Players arent going to always score and will have times where goals are lacking but stick with the team and it wouldnt surprise me if nugent bags a hat trick next game. Too many people on this forum jump on nugents back when all they look at is goal return and dont look at the bigger picture. We are unbeaten in 12 games winning 9 of them FFS. To achieve that every player must be contributing so stick with the same 11 and bring on the dirty tractor boys. UP THE MIGHTY FOXES

I just looked up the statistics, and in the Premier League since it started, 85% of penalties have resulted in goals. While this is in the prem, with a better quality of penalty takers, it also has a better quality of keepers. Either way, it proves that penalties aren't that difficult. Certainly, even the worst players should be scoring at least 50%. While Nugent's record is fairly good (not outstanding by any means, but certainly not shabby), in no way are they a replacement for scoring in open play. It's the person who EARNS the penalty who does most of the work, not the one who takes it. The other logical fallacy I see on here often is "we're top of the league, so he must be doing well". The mistake here is assuming that the two have to be related. It's possible we might have less points if Nugent hadn't been playing, but it's also possible that we may have more if someone else had been playing instead. While I'm not going to say he's shit, he certainly isn't on form, and has missed too many sitters. Someone else should be given a chance, to show that he's not undroppable.

I didn't go Forest so I can't comment on how he played or if the link up player was better when Phillips came on. However you saying he delays passes and slows everything down doesn't make sense considering he has the most assists for Leicester. And who says it is going to cost us? It hasn't for 75% of the season. I'm not saying stick with them for the rest of the season but until one of the other strikers proves they should start I wouldn't change it. They are our best two strikers and probably the best partnership in the league.

If nige was bothered about his form and the knockers he would have looked last month to replace him and he did'nt. In Nige I trust. And pens do count check out your sunday paper he is amongst the best goals scored. Grow up we are top of the league and nuge is one that has put us there. All for improvement but you don't fix whats not broke.

Nice logic sir! vardy has won most of the penaltys let's say he won the penaltys and took them and would probs score them that would mean he would have 20+ goals and nugent would have 4-5 , look at it like that and nugent not doing so good
