Love the bloke and hope he sticks around Rhodes aside, Nugent I think, is generally thought of as the best striker in the Championship.

Even in patches were he was off form he was able to secure us points. Take the Ipswich game for example. Two neat finishes coming from smart runs and he won us the game. He has also been fairly reliable from the penalty spot despite pressures of being off form. A player who is able to do that out of form shows signs of quality tbf.

Corky Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Big difference for me was that he was taking early shots, not dithering and waiting on the ball, and playing snappy passes. He got the ball and moved the team around quickly rather than hold on to it, get crowded out/ tackld then moan at the ref.
Charl91 Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 His confidence definitely seems to be back up at the moment, that's for sure. When he's playing like this, he's a right pain in the arse for defenders. It's such a contrast to some of his earlier performances this season.

Strokes Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 What a lot of people don't realise is that more than anything he is a team player. A great asset to the team, and in the dressing room as well as being our top scorer every season he's been here. Nigel likes him, he likes it here. What's not to like? I've never understood the dislike of him, for me he ticks so many boxes and is one of the most versatile strikers I've seen at Leicester.
Les-TA-Jon Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Currently Him and Vardy are the best striking partnership in the league. You'd hate to play against them as a defender. They allow us to defend from the front and attack from the back, which is SO vital to our style. It allows us to have time on the ball in our own half, when we need to take or maintain control of the match. It allows us to kill off games too. Also their pressing means the opponents can't pass it around in their half. I'd wager that at least half of the chances Vards and Nuge get are from them pressing the opposition, drawing mistakes, intercepting and tackling, rather than our own play. I remember a few years back, we played Brighton at home, in one of Pearson's early matches after coming back. We played Vassal and Beckford up front, and they both ran their arse's off and pressed the back four all game. I walked out praising them, full in the knowledge that it'd be a flash in the pan. It's an absolute blessing to watch Vardy and Nugent play that way every game.
kingfox Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 If Nugent can add about 10 more goals, it will look ever more promising. Vardy is one away from double figures, all his goals as well have come in the League. Best strike force in the league atm, both their work rates are incredible.

On the article, very interesting read, I am surprised Ricky Von Wolfswinkel has done more myself having seen him a few times for Sporting, including one game I actually went to when he ripped Vitoria apart, I thought he'd scored a few goals in the Prem.

Nugent has his ups and downs, but.... Kasper palmed one in at Doncaster / Drinkwater has looked tired at times. No one can give their absolute best over the course of every match of a season. Nugent is part of the fabric of this team, and it's not served us too badly this far has it?

He has had a good month goals wise, so that's only a year of rubbish play we had to endure... I just can't agree. In the league this season he has scored 15 goals and got 7 (several) assists. We've scored 49 goals in the league this season. So, penalties or not he has been involved in around 45% of our goals. That's a rather large proportion of our goals for someone who doesn't do anything. That also doesn't include things like important pressing of the defence, tackles or key passes that aren't a direct assist. Also I think some people forget he wasn't fully fit at the start of the season after his pre-season injury. He didn't have a full pre-season and he's now coming into some great form.

You put this and dont back it by and stats of your own? how many one them 2-1 wins we have had has Nuge got 1 or both the goals? goals = points and that what the strikers do. Credit to him and Vardy they work their socks off for the team lead from the front and the rest will follow.
