Manwell Pablo Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 I probably have a bottle or two of beer a night at home. I find it relaxes me after a tough day. I've got no problem drinking on my own at home (whether there are other people there or not). Dare I say it, is it a class thing? There's a theory that there's a good chunk of your upper-middle and middle class are undiagnosed alcoholics, ploughing through a bottle of red a night. i don't doubt that for a second, although I wouldn't consider a bottle of wine a night alchie, borderline perhaps, it's only four pints you'd be able to kick it easily enough if you wanted. However I'd also say these people are intelligent enough to realise what they're doing before it gets anyworse though, I'd say the high end proportion of people ending in in rehab are from struggling back grounds still necking white lightning and cheap spritits from 12pm - 12am every day.
lavrentis Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 Rarely ever drink at home, don't pre drink anymore. If I was to drink at home I'd probably just buy a £3 bottle of beer from Tesco over a 4 pack of carling from there etc
SystonFox Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 yes i do. usually have various beers in the fridge and spirits on top of the fridge should one take my fancy. dont see the problem with drinking at home myself, obviously until i've had a few too many and decide to belt the mrs
cambridgefox Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 I drink when mates are over and have a few pints of ale and a few glasses of red on a Friday, however i started the fags again after my knee op/ problems and it was ramping up before Xmas.i have now stopped again( easily) but feel drinking at the moment might tempt me so might just have one.
Rincewind Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 When I visited my sister/mum they had drink in. Said to help myself but it was John Smiths in cans so never overdid it. Never liked to refuse and say it was not my favourite. They also have wine with meals. My elder brother always has a good supply in. They can afford it though.
Guest Col city fan Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 I occasionally have a little scotch or two to warm the ol cockles...
Vacamion Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 Yes. Primarily dark ales and stouts. See the Ale thread. If I am not out and about, I will drink 4/5 bottles at home pretty much every Friday and Saturday evening. Sometimes I'll have some one night in the week if there is a good match on.
Soup Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 These people who don't drink at home... which suggests they never have friends around... which suggests they don't have friends* *or that their friends are teetotal What a daft thing to say, shouldnt it be the opposite way round.I drink in a pub to BE with friends.Very sad to stay in and drink,or are we all Jamie Fxxking Oliver.
Mickey O'Neil Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 I can drink a whisky or a White Russian in home. If I want to drink Guinness, I have to go to the pub. That's just about the only alcohol I drink.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 Initially ticked no but then though about it and realised that I do. Usually vodka on a Sunday afternoon.
The People's Hero Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Yes. Pretty much every night. Not just force of habit, I do enjoy it The wife and I had a lovely Sauvignon Blanche last night. I've got 8 different ales lined up for the Leicester game and a very locally produced bottle of gin for this evening I try to drink decent stuff because it's become my hobby and I get a lot of joy from it. I love pubs also and my goal is to get a bigger house and be able to have a games room/bar. Might have to 'separate' from the wife and get her on the single parent benefits. Quite happy to pay 'maintenance'. If you can't beat them, join them.

The People's Hero Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 It was tongue in cheek! Just shows how the system could be played though! Off out for a pre match walk with the kids now. Think today could be a little sedentary and unhealthy later.

The People's Hero Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Does anyone think there is any stigma attached to drinking at home? I make a point of arranging 'days out' to socialise, but with 3 kids it really has to be that way, I don't tend to be able to spontaneously head to my local... and my local isn't all that great. We are more likely to have friends over on a fri/sat evening for a few bottles of wine... Most of my socialising (with drinking) now is either straight after work or heading out to football (Maidstone United usually) or one of many weddings/christenings/housewarmings/funerals etc I seem to head to recently. I've thoroughly enjoyed what I've drank today and never feel like I'm just throwing it down my throat at home. Had a banks bitter, an abbots, an adnams broadside (lovely stuff but don't drink too many), a hobgoblin, an organic st peters port ale, a spitfire and 2x ringwood fortyniners (recommended!) I've got a doom bar and a few Wychwood beers left, but will likely have a break now until the kids are all asleep and then decide what I want to drink with the pulled pork (been cooking since before 7am) later. I'm really in the mood for some sloe gin - or some port, or something like that... don't want to be hungover tomorrow though. We shall see. Wife has asked me to open a bottle of sauvignon blanc and she'll only drink a glass or so, so I'll probably end up on that! Like I said earlier, it all has a very 'sunday' feel about it.

With Kids and responsibilities it's harder to get out, hence you tend to drink at home and chill with the kids. Just killed loads of ale and beer, including 4 x fullers honey dew, cobra x 2, while watching footy, now downing a bottle of red. Saturdays or the new sundays mate!!

Dr The Singh Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Indeed - and 'cheers' - have a great evening mate One thing I will say, you appreciate your times out of the house drinking, and you become very selective on who you waste it with. Been along time, look forward to a beer with you, and possible sex afterwards!!

Unabomber Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Just got some beers on the way back from work, 2 erdinger, sierra nevada pale ale, grimbergen dubbel, duvel. Not a bad selection considering it was at Morrisons, and seeing as I am not going out, they shall all be enjoyed tonight.
