At Christmas or whenever we are having a barbecue. I'm a terrible drinker at best of times so I avoid it when I can. Got a pub golf coming up soon, I will never last!

If I were you, I wouldn't go. I've seen good drinkers fail at that.. its a bit different to a standard session especially if the 'no same drink twice' rule is enforced.

Good luck.

I tend to find a pub I like and then refuse to move on!

Aye but it is for a friend's birthday so I can't really back out. Going to make it my mission to stand next to a plant in every pub for either chucking my drink or my vomit.

Nope, only did at Christmas and that's about it. Pubs are soo much better with atmosphere and what not.

In startling breaking news, we can exclusively reveal that Lamby's home is dull!

I've found a Cocker Hoop and a Brakspear Bitter in addition since. I think I'd best steer clear or any port later!

Cocker Hoop nice Jennings ale. Sometimes have that when up in Lake District.

Does anyone think there is any stigma attached to drinking at home? I make a point of arranging 'days out' to socialise, but with 3 kids it really has to be that way, I don't tend to be able to spontaneously head to my local... and my local isn't all that great. We are more likely to have friends over on a fri/sat evening for a few bottles of wine...

Most of my socialising (with drinking) now is either straight after work or heading out to football (Maidstone United usually) or one of many weddings/christenings/housewarmings/funerals etc I seem to head to recently.

I've thoroughly enjoyed what I've drank today and never feel like I'm just throwing it down my throat at home. Had a banks bitter, an abbots, an adnams broadside (lovely stuff but don't drink too many), a hobgoblin, an organic st peters port ale, a spitfire and 2x ringwood fortyniners (recommended!)

I've got a doom bar and a few Wychwood beers left, but will likely have a break now until the kids are all asleep and then decide what I want to drink with the pulled pork (been cooking since before 7am) later. I'm really in the mood for some sloe gin - or some port, or something like that... don't want to be hungover tomorrow though. We shall see. Wife has asked me to open a bottle of sauvignon blanc and she'll only drink a glass or so, so I'll probably end up on that!

Like I said earlier, it all has a very 'sunday' feel about it.

I definitely think there was quite a stigma back in the day , it's probably not so much now .If you're happy with a couple of bottles at home , enjoy them as you want.

I actually get a bit bored in pubs these days . The image of friendly charming jocular and engaging people indulging in interesting conversation and friendly chit chat in the welcoming fire lit pub is a bit of a fallacy really .

Maybe  there are pubs like the "Rovers Return" and "Queen Vic"  around , but they seem to be getting fewer. Or maybe I'm just  turning into an even grumpier old git  .

I don't drink at home/during the week at all. Pointless as really you drink to get drunk surely?

I make up for it most weekends though.

I think my mate has a problem he openly admits he has a bottle of wine a night after work. Says its the only way he can relax

Only when we have guests or family, but only 2-3 glasses of wine, or 2- 3 pints of beer.

Alone watching sport, never...while gardening, a shandy or a long wine and limo. r

Some like the taste. LIke I enjoy certain beers and will sometimes have a couple in the week, not to get drunk but because they taste great.

Yeah I agree, I tend to drink Belgian/German beers which are all different and have their own taste. I drink lager on a Saturday though as the options are pretty limited in certain pubs and at the ground.

I have a collection of single malts, and usually have a dram or two at the weekend or after a long day. Never have beer or wine in the house though.

It's very rare I even drink. Have just as good a time drinking pop lol Don't really enjoy the taste of any beer, apart from a cider every now and then.

Yeah, I've got to the point where I'll take a £4 pint of nice german or belgian beer over a £3 carling any day. Or only go into places that serve nice beers :P

Same here, you pay for the quality so it's worth it even if it is harder to find decent beer in Leicester. Although judging by your location there are some amazing pubs in Sheffield.
