Bryn Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 Hart Johnson Jagielka Cahill Baines Gerrard Wilshere Lallana Sterling Rooney Sturridge I actually happen to think that's a decent team. Not world-beating, but decent. If we can get out of the group we've done very well and can only get stronger.
Bert Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 Based on ability and talent. But how is he our second best midfielder when he hasn't been in as many PFA teams of the year as Lampard?
ScouseFox Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 Exactly. Base it on his career performances, there is no doubt that Wilshere has been proving his worth at the top level for a good few years now. Henderson has had a good patch of form that coincided with Liverpool's rise to the top of the division and everyone is on the bandwagon. by "proving his worth at the top level for a good few years" i assume you mean getting injured and then being on the bench for a team finishing 4th every year. and people are "on the bandwagon" because he's had a bloody good 18 months and people are realising he's quality.
Webbo Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 My squad would be: Rooney Sturridge Welbeck Lambert Much as I like him if Carroll is fit you'd have to pick him ahead of Lambert.
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 But how is he our second best midfielder when he hasn't been in as many PFA teams of the year as Lampard? Because Lampard is past his prime.
Bert Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 Because Lampard is past his prime.Never known someone so deluded! So is Gerrard!
Corky Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 Because Lampard is past his prime. Are you saying the PFA Team of the Year is not a credible guide to how good a player is now?
steveherbe Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 Carroll anyone? Who? Carol Thatcher would be more use.
steveherbe Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 I'd rather we took John Stones or Curtis Davies than that renter Smalling. Personally I'd rather take Joss Stone and Betty Davies.
Guest MattP Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 Pride_of_the_midlands you still think Godin and Rodriguez don't get in the England team after watching tonight? Who? Carol Thatcher would be more use. Family good at negating strikers.
Grandad. Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 Imagine if Pride of the Midlands and Andy whatever his name is and his jewels were the managers of England? Them pair have the most horrific football opinions I have seen in a very long time, they make Prussian look normal.
Dan Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 Would love Terry to get the call up. Been the best English centre back by a mile this season. Not many people will agree with me here if any, but I wouldn't mind seeing Curtis Davies getting a call up. Had a great season as well. Neither will happen though and we'll have to witness Jagielka getting torn a new arsehole by Suarez. Curtis Davies is a shout and a half.
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 HartJohnsonTerryCahillBainesGerrardHendersonLallanaRooneySterlingSturridge. If Rooney plays poorly/looks unfit and uninterested in Uniteds remaining games and the warm ups I would put Oxlade-Chamberlain in with Lallana playing a more free role.
kingcarr21 Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 How anybody can remotely suggest even thinking about taking wilshere to the world cup is beyond me. Hodgson has to take players who are playing and more importantly IN FORM. At this moment in time Henderson is MILES ahead of Wilshere and must go to the world cup. Wilshere maybe a 'better' footballer (although i fail to see what he has actually done to warrant people thinking this) he most certainly doesnt deserve to be on the plane.
Ric Flair Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 Much as I like him if Carroll is fit you'd have to pick him ahead of Lambert. Yes I agree but he's rarely fit is he? Can't be gambling in a strike force that's hardly strong as it is. I've forgot about Lampard as well, he'll surely be picked so who drops out of that midfield? Bet it'll be Carrick or Barkley. Hope it's not the latter
Grandad. Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 Yeah I can't see Carrick making the squad, Lampard doesn't really warrant going but an experienced player would help over Michael Carrick. Hodgson worrying about Walker, he's another one who shouldn't be going on the plane. Not played in 7 weeks, not going to play for Spurs before the end of the season, has no right to be going.
kingcarr21 Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 flanagan instead of walker?? Is RB Flanagans preferred position?
Grandad. Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 flanagan instead of walker?? Is RB Flanagans preferred position? Flanagan is a right back by trade but has just made left back his own since Enrique's injury and Cissokho proved he is a bag of piss. I would take Flanagan if I had to take a replacement for Walker, but I would only take 7 defenders to begin with and have Jones as second choice right back and worse case scenario play Milner there.
Bert Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 What about Clyne as right back cover? Another who has had a decent season and will probably not even get a look in.
Grandad. Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 What about Clyne as right back cover? Another who has had a decent season and will probably not even get a look in. He missed a fair bit of the season didn't he? Chambers was playing right back for Southampton ahead of him.
Guest ttfn Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 For some reason the squad doesn't seem quite as desperately shit as it did 12 months ago - perhaps it is Liverpool's amazing season which has taken Henderson and Sterling from outside bets to possible (and reliable) starters. Hart Foster Forster Johnson Cahill Jagielka Baines Jones Cole Smalling (on the condition he is allowed nowhere near the right back position) Gerrard Lampard Carrick Henderson Lallana Barkley Ox Sterling Milner Rooney Welbeck Lambert Sturridge Carroll is an interesting one. It seems like a stereotype to say it but he is a proper handful - there's nobody quite like him going to the World Cup and much as Crouch has profited on the international stage from being a bit of a freak, perhaps Carroll could too? I'd start with Hart Johnson Cahill Jagielka Baines Gerrard Milner or Henderson Lallana Sterling Rooney Sturridge
Dan Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 I'd take Trippier over Walker and I'm not even joking, but that's not going to happen.

Things don't seem as shit to me either but I'm convinced that's because we've not played in a while. Liverpool give me hope that we've got a lot about us but we all know we'll turn in the usual turgid shite. I hope to be proven wrong.
Grandad. Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 I am more optimistic than ever about this current group of players, I will be delighted with the Quarter-Finals! Purely down to the fact there seems to be sign of a future with England and this World Cup is just the beginning for a lot of the players.
