Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 11 May 2014 Posted 11 May 2014 Is this the worse squad we have taken to a world cup in living memory? It's better than 2010.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 11 May 2014 Posted 11 May 2014 Is this the worse squad we have taken to a world cup in living memory?Simple answer NO..Five of the players are at Liverpool and been influential in what has been a fantastic season for them. Rooney isn't injured for once so will be fully for fit the first time since 2004, and Cahill has been brilliant for Chelsea... Baines, barkley and jagielka have had great seasons and so has lallana For me this is certainly the best side we have had in years
ScouseFox Posted 11 May 2014 Posted 11 May 2014 everton have stated they have "rested" barkley and stones. rested for what...?

Lionator Posted 11 May 2014 Posted 11 May 2014 Looks like Cole and Wilshere being left out. Good in the case of Cole, time to go with the future including gaining tournament experience.
Soar Fox Posted 11 May 2014 Posted 11 May 2014 Good in the case of Cole, time to go with the future including gaining tournament experience. But he's our best left back.
Tielemans63 Posted 11 May 2014 Posted 11 May 2014 Cole's refused to be on standby according to eurosport.
ScouseFox Posted 11 May 2014 Posted 11 May 2014 not taking cole is a massive error if it's true. not taking wilshere is a great decision.
AKCJ Posted 11 May 2014 Posted 11 May 2014 not taking cole is a massive error if it's true. not taking wilshere is a great decision. I agree. Wilshere is one of England's better players and has shown that in the past. The trouble is that for the last 6 months he's been nowhere near that. Lets hope he can keep fit and be nearer to his best for 2016. He'd be a waste of a spot right now.
Lionator Posted 11 May 2014 Posted 11 May 2014 He is probably the best but where are we going if we take him, keeping the likes of Baines and Shaw behind? Many people have admitted that we're not going to win the competition so why not build a team towards 2016/18 by exposing players to a big tournament?
ScouseFox Posted 11 May 2014 Posted 11 May 2014 Many people have admitted that we're not going to win the competition let's just give our place to wales and stay at home training at st george's park then.
Narborough_fox Posted 11 May 2014 Posted 11 May 2014 Looking from the outside, being a Scot et al, this is a good decision by Hodgson for me. Cole was only ever going to be a second choice to Baines so he's as well as taking Shaw to get some tournament experience rather than Cole whose England career is coming to an end.
Lionator Posted 11 May 2014 Posted 11 May 2014 let's just give our place to wales and stay at home training at st george's park then. Do you realistically believe we have a chance?
Bert Posted 11 May 2014 Posted 11 May 2014 Going to a major tournament to prepare for a tournament that's 4 years away? It's stupid. You take your best players and try to win. Not taking Cole is a mistake.

Wilshere is probably among the top 2 or 3 English players on terms of technical ability but injuries have caught up with him. I hope not but I wonder if his whole career might be like this, he seems to have spent more of his short career out injured than fully fit. Totally the right decision.
sdb Posted 11 May 2014 Posted 11 May 2014 Looks like Cole and Wilshere being left out. Cole news all over the place. 1 quality LB was always going to be left out - brave call but I like it. We won't win it so may as well play young, confident and attacking players. Will be in the minority but not fussed about Wilshere - vastly overrated for me.
Bryn Posted 11 May 2014 Posted 11 May 2014 Daily Mail reporting the following. Hart Foster Ruddy Johnson Smalling Baines Shaw Cahill Jagielka Jones Henderson Wilshere Lallana Milner Gerrard Lampard Sterling Oxlade-Chamberlain Barkley Sturridge Rooney Welbeck Lambert

Not taking Cole is a mistake. I think you're right Bert. I like Baines but I've never been completely convinced by him against top international sides and it's huge pressure on Shaw who is a great player in the making but a total novice at that level. I wonder if Cole has been overlooked partly because he's a cock and the other two are maybe better guys to have at a tournament? I'd have still taken Cole. 107 caps and you could count the bad games he's had for England on one hand.

ScouseFox Posted 11 May 2014 Posted 11 May 2014 cole can defend better than shaw and baines put together and we're not the best team in the group, let alone tournament so will need to defend both a lot and very well to get anywhere. so we aren't taking our best defender. good plan. when is this officially announced? as opposed to dribs and drabs coming through and conflicting reports of "exclusive leaks" from different journos on twitter? like when is hodgson stood in front of a mic with a list of 23 names? what time tomorrow?
