lancyclaret Posted 24 February 2014 Posted 24 February 2014 If a Burnley player were to be voted POY, I think Shackell and Vokes would deserve it more than Ings and Trippier - but not much in it. Ings will probably go on to bigger things than Vokes, but Vokes has improved massively this season. No-one would have predicted Vokes would have 18 goals by the end of Feb.
Babylon Posted 24 February 2014 Posted 24 February 2014 Dunno... but Trippiers skill and ball in for their goal on Sat deserves an award.
foxes1988 Posted 24 February 2014 Posted 24 February 2014 Out of the teams chasing automatics i want Burnley to go up (obvs us too). But on the other hand if Burnley dont go up we can try and take some of their better players off them. Probably not Ings as if he leaves it is more likely to be to an Everton or someone but Trippier would be good. Although right back isn't really an area i think we desperatley need to strengthen.
mickygib Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 Kasper or drinky for me. True kasper hasnt kept the most clean sheets I dont think but his overall game is top class. Defo the keeper for team of the year, aslong as its done by someone impartial... which it wont be surely manager of the year has to go to the manager of the team that wins the league... unless a newly promoted team wins a cup and the playoffs then yeah give that manager it
Guybino Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 Ings has impressed all season, while I would love one of our boys to get it, I think he deserves it.
Sampson Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 Wouldn't surprise me one bit if none of our players got in team of the year tbh. McCormack and Ings will be the front 2, not Vardy, because people will base it on goals. Reid and Barton are much bigger names than Drinkwater so wouldn't surprise me if even Drinkwater didn't get in team of the year, as criminal as that would be.
Silverdaz Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 I think if Nugent gets 20 goals this season he must be in with a shot of being in the PFA team of the year and championship player of the year
lancyclaret Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 Vokes (17 league goals) is catching up Ings (19 league goals), who has failed to score in his last 3 games and missed a hatful against Forest on Saturday. It's quite possible Vokes might finish our top scorer although Ings is 6 clear if cup goals are counted. Also, they have an agreement that Vokes takes the penalties unless Ings himself is fouled like against Millwall a couple of weeks ago. Ings failed from the spot.
Spiritwalker Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 If Vardy doesn't at least make the team of the year it will be a travisty. He is the 2nd best player in a team that is (at present) pissing the league.
XLM Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 Player of the season would be Vardy in my eyes. 1. He's bagged a decent amount of goals 2. He's won a good amount of penalties, which should really amount to assists. 3. His work rate has literally every defender/manager in this league worried about playing against us. 4. After almost everybody jumped on his back and branded him as 'not good enough' because he was bought from a lower league, he's answered those critics through his own hard work and determination to be a success. For me, no other player can boast this. But I'll be happy if he doesn't get recognised for it, because it will mean less attention attracted to him from bigger clubs.
Grewks Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 Team of the Year. kasper trippier (Delivery) morgan (Beast) ? Creswell (Delivery bryson (looks poor when i have seen him, but a threat from midfield). drinkwater (Engine) reid (He isn't even fat) vardy (workhorse) vokes (Target man) ings (great runs)
shailen Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 Drinkwater, hasn't had a poor game all season
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 The best player in individual positions wouldn't necessarily feature in the best all round team if you were sending them out on a weekly basis. There are better strikers than Vardy in terms of goals / assists but his all-round game has been incredible this season. McCormack at Leeds, for example, has been phenomenal in front of goal but does his all-round game equate to that of Vardy's? I'm not so sure. Ings and Vokes have been the best 'partnership' in terms of goals. So many variables. I don't think there's a better central midfielder in the division than Drinkwater. Trippier and Cresswell have been the best full backs. I suspect Ings will get the nod if he continues banging in the goals and Burnley get promoted. Dyche might even pip Pearson to manager of the year if both went up, given the job (and the respective expectation levels) he's done at Burnley. Sometimes we have to take off our blue tinted specs.
Fox Ulike Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Well why not Vardy? We have been the best team in this division by a long way. It would be something of a travesty if the Championship’s player of the year wasn’t one of our boys. Vardy’s all-round game has made him the best forward in this division this season. Plus he’s got his fair share of goals. He’s been the stand-out performer for us, and scored probably our most crucial goal (away at QPR). Half the Championship team of the year should be out lot: Schmiecal, Morgan, Dyer, James, Drinkwater and Vardy.

FoxInTheBox89 Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 I think if we win by a similar margin we have now then how can you not give the award to our best player. Which I think is Jamie Vardy. Yes Drinkwater has bin fantastic and its close but its Vardys energy thats gave Leicester the edge this season. He defends from the front which spurs players such as Drinkwater to perform with urgency. I think if we didnt have Vardy the team would not perform at the level they have.

Agree but the person who chooses the winner won't have seen Vardy every week. I bet strikers will be judged purely on goals so Vardy won't get it
Father Ted Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 If McCormack is in team of the year ahead of Vardy it will be a joke. Vardy may not score as many but he contributes more to a 'team' than ANY other player in this division. PFA team of the year will be the interesting one, players vote so should be a fair reflection.
Guest MattP Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Players are thick as pig shit. They will have been star struck by QPR and wrote all their players names down or in some cases wont even remember. Wouldnt surprise me if they filled them out un 2-3 minutes anyway, I imagine the attention span of a modern footballer is like that of a goldfish.
Corky Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 It'll go on stats mainly, I doubt Drinkwater's goals and assists totals are that high so all the brilliant work he does wouldn't show up and be considered. Similarly, I could see Nugent being ahead of Vardy on his goal tally despite Vardy's all round contribution.
