broughtonblue Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Just seen a snippet of an interview with the beautiful Natalie Jackson, in which Vardy says he was ready to quit last year. This was down to the pressure put on him by fans on social media sites and elsewhere, the reason he didn't was down to our manager/back room staff saying they believed in him. So all of you who gave him shit last year hang your head in shame, and to NP and staff, well done on helping a young lad deal with the pressure of stepping up from non league Edit: I think the interview is on late kick off tonight
Soar Fox Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Fair play to him, but why didn't he just take himself of social media sites for a while if the pressure was getting to him?
Babylon Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Fair play to him, but why didn't he just take himself of social media sites for a while if the pressure was getting to him? Perhaps he should have removed himself from the team as well so he didn't hear the "supporters" boo him when he was announced as coming on as sub. I agree you can't really moan about twitter if you choose to put yourself on there, but we don't half have a moronic group who abuse players needlessly.
Jon the Hat Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Fair play to him, but why didn't he just take himself of social media sites for a while if the pressure was getting to him? So it is his fault he got abused? Hmm.

It's tough out there under the social media spotlight, however the fans only had his match-day performances to judge him on. They did not have the luxury of seeing him train or notice significant potential or note that a period of transition that required extra time or learning would make a significant difference to his performances. Really pleased for him but he looked League 1 at best last year and people commented on this in public discussion. Fair play to the LCFC management for doing their job so well and to Vardy for finding confidence and coming through to form and developing. As for the fans that should 'hang their heads in shame'? Meh. (I'm not talking about condoning abuse here)
lgfualol Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 I dont know why footballers even have social media accounts. Just asking for trouble. Also dont make us feel bad for last season, he wasnt that good and our season was falling apart. Glad he proved us all wrong though.
Dr The Singh Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 So it is his fault he got abused? Hmm. It's the world we live in. Being a sports star, celebrity etc etc, your always going to be in the firing line of abuse, when things don't go well. I'm not saying it's right, but if your in that position it shouldn't be any surprise, infact expected, in this case clubs should be coaching there players on how to overcome and handle media and social media. Overall, i'm glad he's still here and alot of people should be ashamed of themselves!

Booing players on to the pitch is the most moronic thing our supporters do. It's pathetic "support". I'd love a player to be booed on, score a winner and refuse to celebrate/ shush gesture/ give a V-sign to the fans.

We won a lot more games with him in the side and you seem clueless like so many of our support who slated him last season and look right idiots now and rightly so.

Meh. (I'm not talking about condoning abuse here) I don't usually agree with you, but on this I do.Social Media sites are trouble for many footballers and I think they are wise to not use them, or to man-up and accept what is being written if they do use them. As for booing, I don't boo personally as I think it achieves nothing. Vardy... I do believe many jumped to criticise him far too quickly. He was always going to need time to make the step up. Many people on here (myself included) sometimes either dismiss a player or reify them (Mahrez) far too quickly, without seeing enough of them to really be able to make a judgement. Drinkwater is a good example. Soon after I saw him, I made a post that 'he would be the future of our midfield'. Then he had a barren spell and foolishly, I agreed with KingFox and said that Drinkwater wouldn't make the grade. I should have stuck with my original assessment.

We won a lot more games with him in the side and you seem clueless like so many of our support who slated him last season and look right idiots now and rightly so. Wind your neck in. I didn't slate him last season, I simply held the opinion that maybe he needed to go out on loan for a season to find confidence and that maybe he was our 3rd choice striker. I still am unsure he'll cut it massively in the Prem against quicker defenders. As for calling me clueless and an idiot whilst talking in a thread about abuse and social media makes your judgement look ropier than a fan who sees a player under performing and makes suggestions to remedy this.

Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 We really do have a load of arsehole fans don't we! Can't remember which match it was but during our bad run last season Vardy had come on as a late substitute. A family sat in front of me, big fat dog of a mother yelled "Vardy you twat" as he put a ball out for a throw in. Few minutes later, Kasper was lining up a goal kick and this 8 year old kid shouted "Don't pass it to Vardy he's shit" - couldn't believe it. I fücking hate this type.
melrose Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Ah bless him It's just another example of oversensitive footballers Would have had more respect if he kept off social network sites, rolled his sleeves up & got on with it!
foxfanazer Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Back the players regardless of form imo. If they aren't putting in the effort then fair enough but that's not not something you could ever accuse Vardy of. He needed time to adjust and he has certainly done that. Now he's possibly the best striker in the league
foxfanazer Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 rolled his sleeves up & got on with it![/size]Like he has done you mean?

Yet the same posters are most likely all over the players when they meet them outside of the ground or football. It's a sad sad situation and it's getting more and more absurd. Sorry seems to be the hardest word, for most on here to say, when players prove them wrong, which is 99% of the time.

Now he's possibly the best striker in the league If you're not supporting of someone who's obviously trying damned hard then what's the point in supporting at all, any fool can come out & cheer when you're on your way to 20 goals. If the effort wasn't going in as well as the goals weren't then that's a bit different, but the effort was there for all to see... and I'm not just talking headless chicken-style effort either.
melrose Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 I'd say it's another example of insensitive football fans personally We wouldn't want their feelings hurt by a bit of criticism now and then would we!
