That's just playing dumb. We have a -8 GD. We aren't scoring or defending our way to sucess unlike in Barca with their +25.

Aww, no space for the only player in the squad who's comfortable with the ball and able to create something?

I don't know how you interpret all of that from what I said. I wouldn't use the word luxury player. Talented player yes skillful but luxury never. My point is we're not using him properly to get the best out of him this season. Good Teams have balance we have none except maybe at the back. Do Barcelona or real Madrid expect Messi or Ronaldo to race back 80 yards to defend, no they don't they have other players to do that work. But yet we're asking Mahrez to do exactly that and yet when he goes forward he has to face 2 maybe 3 players without support. Simpson isn't good enough to get forward. So we're left with a hole along that side. Albrighton would be perfect to play there on his natural side where he can see the play ahead of him. Instead of what he does on the left which is check back and inside to cross. Which means we're not getting the best out of him either.

Yeah that guy, who also happens to kill a fifty yard pass dead, still create the most clear goal chances, baggs some goals and had a couple of assists, despite the abysmal performances in the midfield or the defense who's constantly getting away unscathed on FT. Or the marvellous CBs. He's underperforming, no question, like the rest of the team. Still wrong tree to bark up.

Mahrez doesn't have the consistency and longevity of dominance that Messi and Ronaldo have. They also both play with 2 lines behind them. A no nonsense and oldschool right back plays behind Mahrez.

Is your request to trash Mahrez on the very first page of every post-match thread being followed diligently by your peers? I knew you would come. I knew you would come.
st albans fox Posted 27 December 2016 Posted 27 December 2016 Very surprised that Claudio thought it a good idea to question his player in public after the match Klopp did it with Sturridge as a last resort to try and get him to play with some discomfort would be be a concern that the manager/player relationship might never recover ?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 27 December 2016 Posted 27 December 2016 As soon as I saw Mahrez wasn't playing, I immediately thought of that WBA game under Pearson. We won't have him for much longer surely, seems such a waste not to play him.

Genuine question, In the form he's in, been in all season, what top club would really want him? Ok take nothing away from him, he's been great for us but 1) He's out of form, not consistent enough 2) Is he out of form chucking his toys out the pram 3) If 2 is the reason for his poor form would a top club really want such a bad apple (bearing in mind it likely he wouldn't start regular, he's too inconsistent), do we want such a bad apple. The ways he's been playing I just can't see anyone (worth leaving for) being interested. I love Riyad, one of his biggest fans, probably the best player i've ever seen play for Leicester but likewise with Vardy their dealings with us and attitude since the summer have stunk and i've lost alot of respect for them (I'm sure they won't lose any sleep over that).
Raj Posted 27 December 2016 Posted 27 December 2016 Hes the only player we have who can create or carve out some magic. We won't realise how good he is untilwe lose him to a team who can play to his strengths and get players alongside him who can enable him to show his stuff. King and Amarthey are not the players who can provide that.

He's still class. As seen all of last season. As seen in flashes this season. Someone will want him. But then I thought he was gone 18 months ago, so we'll see.

And Claudio knows that. It is just weird that he is demanding too much and in return he talks about him like that. He should protect his players. Not be throwing them to the wolves

I'm afraid this uncharacteristic public statement about Mahrez is a sign that himself is starting to panic.
volpeazzurro Posted 27 December 2016 Posted 27 December 2016 It's difficult trying to compare players particularly when two of them in Ronaldo and Messi are, in most people's eyes, the best two players in the world. However, neither of them are 'luxury' players, whatever they are and neither of them just swan about waiting for the ball. I bet if we were to check their personal game stats they would be way up there with the hardest workers. When I've watched them they are both grafters and huge team contributors. This cannot be said for Marhez this season thus far, and imo he has rightly been dropped. True he has now often got 2 or sometimes even 3 men on him, but it is not the Riyhad Marhez show and it's up to him to work out that if that's the case, there are spaces for his team mates and recycle the ball quickly to create opportunities. Gray worked hard yesterday but when Marhez came on he was Mr Lethargy. Twice the Everton left back, who had been on from the start, shot past him to overlap at speed. Marhez followed at a slow canter. He neither tracked his runner or remained in an advantageous position for a breakaway. All players go through a drop in form but the great one's work harder to get it back. Marhez is drawing his money yet is being bone idol at the same time. Gray at this moment in time is a better option.

Look, Mahrez is a fantastic talent, one of those special players that can make something happen from nothing, but he has been poor this season in general, (yes i know he`s not the only one) with the very occasional show of brilliance, that we know he has. Ranieri dropped him at Norwich last season, and Mahrez even stated later, that it had given him a kick up the jacksy that he needed, i suspect that Ranieri is hoping for a similar reaction. My criticism of Ranieri would be that he waited this long to drop him, because in all honesty, i expect Mahrez will see it as a bit of a rest before disappearing to the African nations cup for a month, in a couple of weeks time.

The one exception was Man City, which for me is his best game. He may be talented but he has regressed in as much as he has not adapted to having two or three players around him. Those situations which mean there is acres of space elsewhere have gone to waste, as its all about showcasing his skills rather trying to benefit the team. He's shot himself in the foot in that respect and I also believe that we could be a better TEAM at the moment (with the Mahrez of this season) without both the Algerians when they go to the AFCON.
Guest Danny Clender Posted 28 December 2016 Posted 28 December 2016 One of my all time favourite players I've ever seen at LCFC. I agree with the posts that are saying the quality he's playing with in midfield is stifling him. Amartey, King and Albrighton just don't allow his game to flow. Mahrez is adaptable and can play behind the strikers and at another team he may play in that position, but right or wrong Ranieri wants him on the right wing. I know its been said before, but Hazard was poor last season, now look at the change, Conte puts him into a system and style that brings out the best in his game and well, he's back to an amazing player. I'd like to see some similar consideration from Ranieri to get Mahrez firing again, not just freezing him out on the bench. Let's get Drinkwater back and hopefully Ndidi can slot in quickly and perhaps we have a chance of seeing the Riayad we all know and love.
MurphyMagic Posted 28 December 2016 Posted 28 December 2016 How can Mahrez prosper when Albrighton, Slimani or one of the other chumps give it away constantly.
old koppite Posted 28 December 2016 Posted 28 December 2016 Very good player. Natural talent and invention in shed loads. Once he has left , you'll be lucky to see such skill in a city shirt again. So you moaners, keep slagging him off, keep sighing or loudly groaning when he loses the ball when 2/3 super fit talentless workhorses nudge, push, pull him , clip his heels and clueless refs do nothing. I don't buy he's being mardy- if so as people have said he would play out of his skin to attract interest. He's just stuck in the same rut with the other players being out of form, low in confidence and silly errors putting us under pressure.
