kingfox Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 Why are you panicking now then? We've got 6 months to sort this shit out. Because it's that time of season.
Hack Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 Rob Dorsett@Dorselator #lcfc Nigel Pearson refuses to deny interest in strikers Fraizer Campbell, Connor Wickham and Leonardo Ulloa. Wants 2 more signings if poss. Do you guys think, 2 may mean about 5 again? The article did not say he is looking for only 2 more signings. How can it be read that way, seriously!!
Ric Flair Posted 8 July 2014 Posted 8 July 2014 I'll re-iterate it again. Defensively we were very suspect last year in a division with a lot of dross. We were diabolical at defending and attacking set pieces. Against better opposition it'll be even harder for us to keep them at bay and as we were very guilty of wasting chances, our strikers will be under huge pressure. We need a new full back, centre half, central midfielder and 1-2 strikers. That's not going crazy either, just a healthy strengthening of a squad that bar it's XI looks quite mediocre.
Legend_in_blue Posted 8 July 2014 Posted 8 July 2014 We can carry 3 players in the team not up to standard for this league. Any more and we are in trouble. I reckon we need another winger and a RB to go with the above selections. We're 7 short imo because the backup players aren't good enough and will take us over the carrying of 3 players in the team should we get injuries.
Babylon Posted 8 July 2014 Posted 8 July 2014 Yes, but looking at it now, I can't see the squad staying in the Prem. Promoted sides, usually strengthen the spine of their side, that being CB, CM & ST. Cardiff, Hull & Palace all did it last season, get that structure right then we will have a much better chance. Cardiff - Caulker, Medel, Cornelius - Cornelius was of course a failure though. Hull - Davies, Huddlestone/Livermore, Long/Jelavic Palace - Dann, Ledley, Gayle/Chamakh Leicester need to copy. Leicester got promoted on 102 points scoring 83 and conceding 43. Cardiff got promoted on 87 points scoring 72 and conceding 45. Hull got promoted on 77 points scoring 61 and conceding 52. Palace got promoted on 72 points scoring 73 and conceding 62. So just to reiterate... We got 30 points more than Palace, scored 10 more and conceded 19 less. We got 25 points more than Hull, scored 22 more and conceded 9 less. We got 15 points more than Cardiff, scoring 11 more and conceding 2 less. As I said before it's very east to fall into the trap of panic strengthening because we're worried players might not make the step up (I've done exactly the same). But they might, we were on a different planet last season compared to any of those three. I still think there will be a fair few names come in, but we need to remember how good this team was last season. Comparisons to others mean nothing as they needed strengthening more than we do.

I have been thinking the same. We were too good the the championship last season. One think that can take you a long way to survival is a team ethic, which we seem to have from the outside looking in, so any player must fit in to that. That said I would like to see a left back and striker come in, I do think cresswell was one we missed out on.

There was an interesting snippet I saw last night in an article about our transfer targets... Nigel Pearson has suggested that Leicester City have the potential to surprise people with the players they have targeted in recent weeks. After winning the Championship last season, Pearson believes that recruiting players with contrasting characters is the only way the Foxes will be able to avoid relegation from the Premier League. "I don't want to just sign angels, if players are available that will make us more capable to win games we will take that into consideration," the Leicester boss told members of the media. "People like to pigeon hole you and say we will only build conservatively. That's not always the case. "Some of the players we have tried to sign - and have not materialised - will have surprised a few people."

Where there any biggish names available on bosmans that we might have been in for? He said something along those lines on Radio Leicester. He said he would make a "marquee signing" if it was the right type of player and person. So I think the wage structure would be broken if the right player came along.

Clearly we are finding it hard to bring people in, but we're trying so it's just a case of being patient. We're now competing with all the top leagues around Europe for players so it's going to be tough, especially when we try and do it sensibly and the the QPR route.
Ric Flair Posted 8 July 2014 Posted 8 July 2014 I'm slightly more reassured with that from Pearson, I'm glad he knows that the depth to our squad is simply not enough. We were extremely fortunate with injuries last season, everything fell in to place for the perfect season. Will we be so lucky this year when we're in a battle at the other end of the table? Probably not, so we need 3-4 more I think. The likes of Hammond, GTF and even Konchesky scare me. We aren't far off though, just would like some genuine quality to calm the nerves.
Banks Posted 8 July 2014 Posted 8 July 2014 A left back, a striker, a winger and a central midfielder.

I just think we are going to struggle to get proven quality.

Babylon Posted 8 July 2014 Posted 8 July 2014 From the mirror today.... we're going to ATTACK! (Plus a bit about signings)
Ric Flair Posted 8 July 2014 Posted 8 July 2014 Indeed. I just think we are going to struggle to get proven quality. Promoted teams have snapped up the sorts of players we need before and there's no reason why we can't, money certainly isn't as bigger issue as it has in recent years. That said, because there's more money knocking about, players are going for stupid dough and we know Nigel doesn't like to get involved in bidding wars and paying over the odds for players. I still think Nick Powell will sign for us, if we could get Wickham, Ulloa or another powerful striker then I think a pacey centre half and a full back and we're about there. Another winger isn't a pressing concern as we have quality there but Nathan Redmond, Visca or Serge Gnabry/Ryo Miyaichi on loan would be an absolute dream.
Banks Posted 8 July 2014 Posted 8 July 2014 A centre back is vital in my opinion, if Moore got injured, we don't want to be relying on Wasilewski and Upson against top strikers
RowlattsFox Posted 8 July 2014 Posted 8 July 2014 I do think we'll pick up a loan signing or two but generally these don't happen until close to the season as squads are on tours etc. It's a domino effect, some clubs can't or won't sell their players until they've got replacements.

Yes we bossed the Championship, but many fans are thinking we will go into the Premier League, and comfortably beat most teams. Fans are underestimating how tough next season could be, we can smash the Championship all we like, but the Premier League is a different playground altogether. There have been players in the past where they stand out in the Championship, but struggle to make the step up to Premier League level, I honestly believe we have a few players who could slip into that category. Most people on here have said, basically what I've said in terms of the positions we need to strengthen, yet some think we maybe alright as we are. A bit of quality Babs could make all that difference from a relegation battle, to a secure mid-table finish. As I said a few weeks back, I'd look to spend in the region of £5-8 million for a centre back & centre forward, those are the two positions we need real quality in, if we want to stay up in my opinion. Someone like Powell will forever be on our radar especially with the press, until he signs or goes elsewhere. If another winger does come in, I can see it being a loan or definitely Edin Visca; however I wouldn't mind to see a player who is capable of playing out wide & up front, someone like Wissam Ben Yedder, considering he plays in France & comes from a similar background to Mahrez, I'm surprised we haven't been linked with him yet

I myself have said we need strengthening, the point I was making was that it's pointless to compare against what others did because we absolutely smashed the league compared to them. THIRTY points and TWENTY FIVE more than Palce and Hull is massive, they clearly needed some major surgery on their squads.
kingfox Posted 8 July 2014 Posted 8 July 2014 Are they? I've seen a few comments saying, with the squad we had last season, we could of beaten about half the teams in the Prem.
teblin Posted 8 July 2014 Posted 8 July 2014 I've seen a few comments saying, with the squad we had last season, we could of beaten about half the teams in the Prem. Fair enough. I think it is a bit of both some are underestimating the league and other are underestimating the ability of the squad we have. But there is no doubt we could do with 2 or 3 more players.
