kingfox Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 Why worry? If Nigel wants him then that's good enough for me. Stop whining KF! I wonder if we'll be successful this time having maybe destabilised the player and club slightly..... hope so. It's the price, £3 million to £7.5 million, all this chasing & hassling is pathetic, there's players out there crying to be snapped up for about the same price, yet we are wasting our time on this guy. Pearson must really love him.
Harry - LCFC Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 Not sure about this anymore. Brighton aren't playing ball despite being offered a fairly decent sum. Then again we do keep missing out on our other targets so maybe we do need to persist.

sphericalfox Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 What players would they be? You've clearly not been following the transfer section much. kingfox has about listed every prospect on FIFA, and every top or second from top goalscorer from Ligue 2 and beyond, in order to cover his bases and ensure (and he will remind you and everyone who listens) that he was the person who mentioned that player first. He's got a career in scouting to come.
kingfox Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 What players would they be? Movsisyan was linked, Castiagnos been linked with Swansea, Ibisevic linked with Stoke, Pelle with Southampton, Lacazette with Newcastle. All of which are rumoured to be in the same price range.
Mark_w Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 Castiagnos been linked with Swansea, Ibisevic linked with Stoke, Pelle with Southampton, Lacazette with Newcastle. I think I've spotted the flaw in your plan.
kingfox Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 I think I've spotted the flaw in your plan. And what's the plan to start with?
Mark_w Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 And what's the plan to start with? The whole 'sign player x, y and z, even though they won't come here' plan.
Petchy Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 Heskey's become a free agent again having left Newcastle Jets... surprise surprise bookies have placed us as favs at 3/1.
kingfox Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 The whole 'sign player x, y and z, even though they won't come here' plan. Not out of our price range, clubs we should be challenging around & and we are capable of beating, so why not go for these players. You have international quality strikers there, waiting to get snapped up for 6-8 million, yet we make about four bids for a Championship striker.

If Swansea, Stoke, Southampton and Newcastle are genuinely interested in signing players to start games, then they'll beat us to those signings. They're all established Premier League clubs with proven Premier League players and will look more attractive to those players.
Deucalion Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 Sorry to stoke controversy, but could we decide whether he is worth the fee next summer perhaps ???
Corky Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 Movsisyan was linked, Castiagnos been linked with Swansea, Ibisevic linked with Stoke, Pelle with Southampton, Lacazette with Newcastle. All of which are rumoured to be in the same price range. Did you completely miss the thread where he was linked with us?

Get in there quick enough, and stop faffing around with Ulloa, we could have an international quality striker on our hands, who has scored goals in one of Europe's top leagues.
kingfox Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 Did you completely miss the thread where he was linked with us? Nope, but he has been linked with Southampton also, so I just put them down.
sphericalfox Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 Did you completely miss the thread where he was linked with us? He probably didn't mention them first, so he doesn't count.
FoxyPalace.com Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 Well done Nigel, The tactics have worked, going in low at the start then ramping up the offers. Ulloa is wanting to come, For 6-7m could be a great buy.
Jace Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 Pearson will make at least 1 £6 million+ signing this summer I bet
Legend_in_blue Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 Better make it quick. We need another 5 at least, ideally 7.
MozeyCo Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 Still hoping for a proven midfielder aswell, i know we have a strong mid, but danny, andy, and matty havent played in the prem yet. Still crossing my fingers for a random gylfi sigurdsson bid.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 The same Castiagnos that flopped miserably outside of Holland, kingfox? I know he's got a few years on ulloa (who I'm not sold on either) but I know who I'd rather have out of the two
kingfox Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 The same Castiagnos that flopped miserably outside of Holland, kingfox? I know he's got a few years on ulloa (who I'm not sold on either) but I know who I'd rather have out of the two Flopped wouldn't say flopped, Castiagnos is still only 21, it's now that he is starting to prove his quality, getting recognised as a potential pick for Holland in the future. He has strength & unlike Ulloa he has much better pace, age is on his side, potential is on his side. Maybe he isn't the ideal choice, but Swansea bidding £6.5 million for him speaks volumes, we ourselves could of well got him by now.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 He bombed, flopped, whatever you want to call it; inter weren't keen to keep hold. We don't need pace, we have that in Vardy and Nugent, what we need is a proper target man because (as harsh as it sounds) I think Wood'll struggle massively next year. Not sure what point you're trying to get at with your last sentence. How does it speak volumes about anything? And perhaps we could've gotten him by now, that'd be the case with thousands of other players in world football, but we aren't interested, so we haven't.

Pains me to agree with Kingfox, but it's ludicrous to say he flopped after he was given one start and five substitute appearances. He was both silly and unfortunate but you can't write him off because of that, especially when he's as young as he is.
Babylon Posted 11 July 2014 Posted 11 July 2014 Maybe he isn't the ideal choice, but Swansea bidding £6.5 million for him speaks volumes, we ourselves could of well got him by now. Well if Swansea haven't got him after bidding over a month ago, what makes you think we could have got him?
