Nick Posted 11 July 2014 Posted 11 July 2014 It's the price, £3 million to £7.5 million, all this chasing & hassling is pathetic, there's players out there crying to be snapped up for about the same price, yet we are wasting our time on this guy. Pearson must really love him. It's not about what he's worth to you in your head. It's about what Pearson thinks he will bring to the side on and off the field. It's the bit on Football Manager that's not replicated in reality.
Robin JD Popley Posted 11 July 2014 Posted 11 July 2014 For anyone who is interested, Pelle is looking like he is going to Roma from reading a few bits and pieces on the internet this morning. Bit like our situation with Ulloa, Feyenoord felt that Southampton weren't offering enough at £8m so I doubt we'd match that offer or closer the rumoured asking price of £12-15m currently, so yes. Never mind. Personally hoping we can still tempt Wickham away but we don't want to find ourselves sat here on opening day without someone...however, that is also a bit of a double negative too. Rather us have someone to improve than just for the sake of it.

kingfox Posted 11 July 2014 Posted 11 July 2014 He bombed, flopped, whatever you want to call it; inter weren't keen to keep hold. We don't need pace, we have that in Vardy and Nugent, what we need is a proper target man because (as harsh as it sounds) I think Wood'll struggle massively next year. Not sure what point you're trying to get at with your last sentence. How does it speak volumes about anything? And perhaps we could've gotten him by now, that'd be the case with thousands of other players in world football, but we aren't interested, so we haven't. We don't need pace Castiagnos offers pace, strength & height, 6ft3 for a 21 year old, Castiagnos can play as a target man. If Swansea are willing to bid for him & possibly sign him, then they obviously think he is worth that price & is ready for the Premier League. Well if Swansea haven't got him after bidding over a month ago, what makes you think we could have got him? Swansea said they want to explore other options, before making a final decision, hence bidding for Deeney. It's not about what he's worth to you in your head. It's about what Pearson thinks he will bring to the side on and off the field. It's the bit on Football Manager that's not replicated in reality. Well the price in Pearson's head to start with was £3 million. Look at it this way, if we got Ulloa by now for 3-4 million, I would of been happy. The price we bid yesterday was to steep for my liking & wasteful.
Master Fox Posted 11 July 2014 Posted 11 July 2014 We'll have an awesome Championship side ready to go when we're relegated at Christmas. Nige needs to start laying down some serious pound notes bros.
st albans fox Posted 11 July 2014 Posted 11 July 2014 We'll have an awesome Championship side ready to go when we're relegated not the most ridiculous starting point. we wont have enough debt to force us to sell anyone and if we did go down , that squad know they are good enough to bounce straight back. now we just need to add a bit of quality which will be saleable in the worse case scenario

Maybe palace thought the same? Or even southampton - spending all that cash on Ramirez who was so influential on their season wasn't he??
Babylon Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 Movsisyan was linked, Castiagnos been linked with Swansea, Ibisevic linked with Stoke, Pelle with Southampton, Lacazette with Newcastle. All of which are rumoured to be in the same price range. LINKED with, not signed FFS.Just remember you are the same plank that basically slated all the signings Pearson made previously and said they weren't good enough. How about you take a step back and admit you do not have a ****ing clue. Bid for Slimani according to a Portuguese newspaper.
CosbehFox Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 Pains me to agree with Kingfox, but it's ludicrous to say he flopped after he was given one start and five substitute appearances. He was both silly and unfortunate but you can't write him off because of that, especially when he's as young as he is. Attitude was his main problem hence why he very rarely played.

At the end of the day, we could track & bid for those players if we wanted. And who knows if we did, we might of got one of them in by now. Do those comments make me an idiot, NO!
notnow john Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 We don't have to rely solely on those comments for confirmation!
Stadt Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 We can't a afford to give players with potential playing time - we need players that are good enough now. How many times have you watched Castiagnos play?
sdb Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 I do rate our squad but we do still need 2-3 quality additions, and sooner rather than later. Similar ability sides are really strengthening at the mo.
Vossen Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 At this rate we'll end up with no one...it's all about money & we won't pay the wages....we need to pull the rabbit out of the hat...
Out Foxed Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 Do those comments make me an idiot, NO! all your other ones do
kingfox Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 We can't a afford to give players with potential playing time - we need players that are good enough now. How many times have you watched Castiagnos play? What did we do with Knockaert & Mahrez then? They came in with an ounce of unknown about them, both having the potential to do well for us which they have done. Why can't Castiagnos be good enough now? And if I say I've watched him play before, people won't believe me, and if I say I haven't watched him then you will be like, why are you bigging him up then.

You were the one telling everyone to not get excited about Mahrez though.... And look how that's turned out! I get the impression you seem to want to be seen as knowing about a lot of football (you might do) and seem to take punts on whether you think someone will cut the mustard or not.

We were in the championship then so we could afford these players playing time but we need players that can make an instant impact. I don't know much about Castaignos because so haven't seen him play and seems neither have you.

Well the excitement was pointless, nobody knew anything about the guy, yet people were sitting there saying he will be brilliant, at that point you can't necessarily guarantee that. I didn't say he would be brilliant, and I didn't say he would be crap. He has turned out good, and I'm happy for that. Nobody knows what football I watch in my spare time. If I say right now I'd like Leicester to sign Matt Besler from Sporting Kansas, people will yet again say, but you haven't seen him play. We were in the championship then so we could afford these players playing time but we need players that can make an instant impact. I don't know much about Castaignos because so haven't seen him play and seems neither have you. But some of these younger talents, could make an instant impact for any club they sign for, you just don't know how they will turn out. Slimani for example, he's older, did well at the end of last season, looked decent in bits for Algeria at World Cup, doesn't mean he will come in and make an instant impact. I watch bits, & as the Eredivisie is now coming to Sky Sports 5, I will try and watch more, unless the games clash with Premier League & Championship matches. I look at people's opinions on players, look at write ups on players, because it's something I enjoy doing. Comments like that can count for a lot, or they could count for nothing. But take Reading fans for instance, we thought Mills would be good, solid signing, one of the best defenders in the Championship, Reading fans warned us he isn't all that, we didn't believe them, and look how he turned out.

Fair enough but the likelihood of older, more experienced players performing consistently is greater.
Deucalion Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 It doesn't matter how much Fifa you play, how much televised football you watch, or how much research you do on the internet, your judgement is not going to be as good as someone who has played the game professionally and gets paid as their main employment to scout players. It always surprises me how much people on here value their own judgement, as rank amateurs, as opposed to those at the club. For the record, this isn't aimed at any one individual.
Grewks Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 I do rate our squad but we do still need 2-3 quality additions, and sooner rather than later. Similar ability sides are really strengthening at the mo. Burnley? - Personally don't rate taylor or sordell. West brom? - Gardner and lescott, hardly setting the world alight, little difference between upson and lescott whilst albrighton has for more potential than gardner.

Burnley are probably the only exception. I didn't say every team, although it's close to. Lescott's a good signing for WBA. Gardner's decent enough too.
