Guest ttfn Posted 5 April 2014 Posted 5 April 2014 Football is all about moments. Sat in the away end last season, I've not actually ever seen that back. And I didn't watch it back just now. And I don't think I ever will. It was a perfect, almost unbelievable moment for Watford and a complete nightmare for us. But football is about moments. Moments that make you burst onto the pitch into spontaneous celebration in a play-off semi final and moments that make you sit there, barely able to choke back the tears, kicking the seat in front of you. As I said to my brother when we conceded against Watford, this is why you go to football. Because it's a game of moments. Without the rough there is no appreciation of the smooth. Look at the Manchester United fans bemoaning their season whilst they are in the semi-finals of the Champions League. It is moments like that afternoon at Vicarage Road that make today all the sweeter. I'm sure everybody remembers how down they felt that day. And today, as Watford sit mid-table, we're promoted with SIX games to spare. Ok we never had any "DEEEENEEEY" moments but we've had so much glory this season; more than we could ever have hoped for. More moments than we could ever realistically have dreamed of: Three goals in the last 15 minutes against Birmingham The win at Vicarage Road and Knocky's goal The Vardy goal against QPR The lights at home to Reading Beating Bolton 5-3 The Derby game. Perfection driven by Nugent. Nugent at Leeds. 9 in a row. Drinkwater against Watford Mahrez at Forest Mahrez against Blackpool Schmeichel's header against Yeovil. Still makes me laugh. Knockaert's free kick last night. Stelling barely able to get his words out today. Watford will have last season's moment for ever. It's certainly something we'll never forget. But without Deeney slamming that ball into the net we'd never have had any of the above. Moments like that make the great times all the sweeter. Here's to all Leicester fans on a great night for our club.
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 5 April 2014 Posted 5 April 2014 I haven't watched it since and have no intention to. Even at Watford away his season I managed not to watch it!
Fox92 Posted 5 April 2014 Posted 5 April 2014 Still horrid to watch, but we learnt from it. Nige's signings were excellent and very coy. GTF, Phillips and Hammond are all indispensable to us regardless of how many games they play. They are big characters, as Nige has said.
Unabomber Posted 5 April 2014 Posted 5 April 2014 Can't watch it, the day was one of the worst of my life. Coming back from a holiday and catching the 2 half in a pub near St Pancras before getting the train back to Leicester.
StanSP Posted 5 April 2014 Posted 5 April 2014 ttfn - Rep is done for the day but that is a great post!
Guest Papasmurf Posted 5 April 2014 Posted 5 April 2014 The only time I've ever seen this was live at the time it happened. Might watch it tomorrow.
Bryn Posted 5 April 2014 Posted 5 April 2014 Remember thinking as he stepped us that I've never seen someone look so nervous before a penalty, mystified as to why he took it. But, like relegation, it worked out for the best. Our two worst moments of the last few years and we made them into stimuli for our greatest.
RookeryHorn Posted 5 April 2014 Posted 5 April 2014 watfords downfall may be something to do with them triggering a new loan rule from linked clubs after we only just lost to the udinese reserve team. sigh.
Stadt Posted 5 April 2014 Posted 5 April 2014 It still makes me feel a bit ill, similarly with the Kermogant penalty but moments like that give us a context for a season as wonderful as this.
Steven Posted 5 April 2014 Posted 5 April 2014 Football is all about moments. Phillips at Bournemouth?
KFS Posted 5 April 2014 Posted 5 April 2014 Still haven't watched it, I must look like an autism sufferer every time it comes on in adverts etc. I watched the Kermo chip last year and was okay, so I think next year might make Deeney's goal bearable, but right now it's still very raw for me.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 5 April 2014 Posted 5 April 2014 IF you can keep your head when all about youAre losing theirs and blaming it on you,If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,But make allowance for their doubting too;If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,Or being hated, don't give way to hating,And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:If you can dream - and not make dreams your master; If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;If you can meet with Triumph and DisasterAnd treat those two impostors just the same;If you can bear to hear the truth you've spokenTwisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:If you can make one heap of all your winningsAnd risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,And lose, and start again at your beginningsAnd never breathe a word about your loss;If you can force your heart and nerve and sinewTo serve your turn long after they are gone,And so hold on when there is nothing in youExcept the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,If all men count with you, but none too much;If you can fill the unforgiving minuteWith sixty seconds' worth of distance run,Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
Alexikokopops Posted 5 April 2014 Posted 5 April 2014 Can't watch it, the day was one of the worst of my life. Coming back from a holiday and catching the 2 half in a pub near St Pancras before getting the train back to Leicester. I was on holiday in New York at the time. Dragged the (Arsenal supporting) friend who I was staying with (who lives in Manhatten) down to a bar at 7:15am after a night on the town to watch this. I think he finally may have forgiven me That said, I'm not watching the ****er again.
1964FOX Posted 6 April 2014 Posted 6 April 2014 My reflection on that is Deeny's proclamation that he thought Watford would walk the league with ease this season. Clearly it made them over confident where as it made us cautious and more concentrated on what was required. It worked for us.
woznotwos Posted 6 April 2014 Posted 6 April 2014 And some people speculate Deeney would be good here ! Never want to see him anywhere near a city shirt , not even on the same pitch as we will be in different divs
Lettsy Posted 6 April 2014 Posted 6 April 2014 I actually prefer this goal. Almunia's greatest contribution in a Watford shirt. Also our players getting their own back by celebrating in front of their fans. Up the city!!! We are Premier League!!
Super_horns Posted 6 April 2014 Posted 6 April 2014 . Clearly it made them over confident where as it made us cautious and more concentrated on what was required. That was in the Watford Observer. Very honest from Deeney - presume Zola thought the same given his tactics and the signings made last summer which in the main have been much less effective than last season. Not replacing Vydra was the key loss - without Deeney's goals we'd probably be nearer the bottom. Is he good enough for a Premier league team? Strong and physical but not sure he'd have the pace and would probably get frustrated at not getting many chances.
ImBlue Posted 6 April 2014 Posted 6 April 2014 I'm proud of the way Pearson conducted himself after, in what would have been a devastating time. But we stuck by him and this group of players were made by that experience. And we could be looking at a team that will set the club up as a premier league team. To be honest, they were stronger so I believe would have won in ET, so it's not the goal that particularly bothered me, it's the penalty miss. That said, all the smarmy watford fans that said it was sh/t or bust for us are eating them words in the championship. Bye bye.
nlukka Posted 6 April 2014 Posted 6 April 2014 I still can't watch it, not even now that we've won promotion. Can't even watch Kermogant's penalty at Cardiff either. As a kid I had a huge phobia of snakes so would always turn away from the tele whenever a snake would appear; unfortunately, I still do the same thing whenever a clip of 'that' goal is shown.
Agent Fox Posted 6 April 2014 Posted 6 April 2014 that makes me feel sick and nervous to watch, It took me weeks to get over that!!! I was so depressed from that Watford game that I quit my new, well paid job... Actually took me a long time to overcome that.
MattGamble92 Posted 6 April 2014 Posted 6 April 2014 I'm glad we didn't go up that season but I'll never say I'm glad that that happened. Wish they'd just beat us 4-1 But having said that, whenever that goal is brought up in the future it will always be the goal before the season we won the league and they stayed down
Leicester Lass Posted 6 April 2014 Posted 6 April 2014 Deeney's tweet to Ledge on 13th May: @T_Deeney: @seanstledger12 top man make sure you lot win the league next year now #allthebest Oops.
Out Foxed Posted 6 April 2014 Posted 6 April 2014 I was so depressed from that Watford game that I quit my new, well paid job... Actually took me a long time to overcome that. as did i
