Nigel Pearson and 10 players to get new contracts!

The most sickening thing is Gallagher will be laughing his tits off, probably gets a nice promotion bonus, a wage rise and will stick around and rake it all in for the next 12 months.

Oh well, 12 months time will see the end of the Sven madness once and for all.

You'd only give our top scorer and top assister a 12 month contract, that's pretty harsh.

But he only scores penalties

If SSL gets a new contract then I want one as well because we'll both contribute about the same on the pitch next season. He should have been bought out of his contract months ago. The absolute definition of deadwood. Get rid.

Personally I don't think he'll cut it in the Premier, if I'm wrong then it's easy to extend his contract.

I'm not sure just how many of the current squad will be playing regulararly for the first team in 12 months, I don't want to see us left with players earning a fortune who we can't shift due to long contracts.

Dyer has just had his best season for us, am I right in assuming that like me you wouldn't offer him more than 12 months?

Totally agree and the reason why we need to be careful about who gets offered long contract extensions.

Just remember that GTF has to appear in 20 games to get a deal for next season at the same terms of this seasons deal. I think he's 3 away or around that mark.

Do you think he's gonna turn that down? Doubt it. Expect him to be here.

I think we'd still sort something out even if he didn't make those appearances.

A new 3 year deal for Nigel Pearson to be discussed after tomorrow's game against Brighton, absolutely awesome news, best signing at City in years.

Excellent, and a sign of the positive all-round attitude within the club from top to bottom.

Most of what's been set was expected, for all that it was welcome, but perhaps most heartening was the manager's comments about the owners and the suggestion that they are entirely vindicated.

Even now our owners haven't been grabbing the limelight post-promotion and yet they deserve immense praise for their contribution both on the playing side and with all the supplementary support as well.

You never get the impression at Leicester that the owners are trying to do the manager's job - only that they are willing to support him. I'm sure there are parameters but so much more has happened for the good at  the club quite apart from the gathering together of an excellent and still improving playing staff.

In demanding what I'm sure are high standards the owners have themselves done so much to make everything possible. Everything from the queuing for tickets at the club shop, through the re-purchase of the ground, the massive ongoing improvements at Belvoir Drive, the sensible approach to securing promotion, through to the permission to stage major concerts have been positive steps forward and I'm genuinely excited about the potential the club now has in every way.

Even back in the MON days there were seemingly limits to what we might achieve but now those "limits" have been vastly extended and are dictated only by the scope of what could be massive ambition.

Surely our owners deserve their own round of appreciative applause at our next match. They've already helped achieve so much and to have a manager of integrity speak so highly of them is glowing testimony in itself.

To be fair, it was NP who signed Gallagher in the first place, although it was Sven who gave him the contract extension. It's astonishing that he is one of our longest serving players, though.

Dyer is older and once his pace starts to go he will be pretty useless as he has nothing else. A year with an option for us to extend if we wish would be fair.

Nugent is younger whilst he may not be a starter, is good enough to have around in the squad, so a couple of years is fair with an option of a third for us to extend. I just don't think he'd accept anything less than two years.

The wages have to be right obviously, but we wouldn't have a shortage of offers for either of them if it didn't work out.

I know it was Pearson who signed him, but the remit was different when he signed him (staying in the championship after promotion from league one), and he didn't give the bloke a stupidly long expensive contract.

Good post. When you look at how the owners at Cardiff, Florist, QPR and the rest continually try to hog the limelight, the modesty and self-respect of our owners is brilliant. I just hope rubbing shoulders with twàts like the Glazers doesn't change them

We should never give options to extend on top of a contact offer, that's how we got screwed with Gallagher.

Nugent is likely to earn more in 1 season in the PL with us than 2 seasons with any Championship side, he'd be mad not to sign whatever we offer him.

Just need to be careful that we don't start offering stupid extensions and salaries like we did under Sven.

I wouldn't offer Dyer or Nugent anything more than a 12 month extension at the moment.

I agree about the wages, we need a contingency plan and clauses included to reduce salaries on relegation, the last thing we want is to be paying Premier League money to lots of players in a Championship team. We can just about get away with it now with two or three.

I would love St Ledger to get a new contract. He's got a cracking attitude and improves squad morale and aside from when injuries have hampered him he has been a solid player for us performing well.

If you'd love it so much then why don't you pay for his wages, then I'll be more than happy to see SSL stay.

SSL can't get into our current team ... we've been promoted so want to improve the squad ..... the poorest players in it will be discarded and replaced with players that will not only push for the first team but may even be the first choice .... SSL will be no where near good enough for that.

Posted

Good to see we are addressing the uncertainty quickly.  I'm sure all the contracts will have different terms if we are relegated so I'm not overly worried about what happens if we go down.

Didn't realise Hammond had a two year contract thought it was one - hes clocked up 26 games almost with me noticing this year (wonder how many minutes)  Given what NP has said I expect both GTF and Miquel to be offered contracts with Philllips moving into a coaching role.  All are part of the core 18 players.

Players out will be Danns, SSL, Shitbread, Gallagher (Prob Loan),  Futacs (Prob loan), Baka (Prob loan).

Jeez, are we really stuck with Gallagher for another season....? He was decent for a while with some great performances and belters here and there, but he is slowly turning into our 'Bogarde'...

I really hope, that Nigel sticks to the plan and keep the squad together adding only a few quality additions. Also hope that the club keeps sane with the contracts, so we don't overspend on the wage bill again.

Posted

This is turning into a really negative thread. Moaning about players, claiming that certain individuals won't be good enough, etc...

Sean St Ledger: He is a bit like Neil Danns in the respect that he gets on very well with the team (players, specifically). He's got a bit of an attitude but overall, does great things for the team ethic. I don't understand people saying that he's not a good defender. To be quite honest, he's not played enough games. That's the biggest problem. He's injury prone. He's versatile and experienced. I know it's only Ireland, but he has been a regular in their team for several years - and when I say regular, I mean he was one of the first names on the team sheet.

Should we keep him? No. Why? He's not getting any younger, we already have two aging centre-backs (Wes & Was), I think we should be looking to the future and despite SSL being a half-decent centre-half, he's surplus to requirements. This is a hard decision for me to make, ever since his 'forest fwwwiiiend' comment during tunnel cam a few years back, I'll always see him as a great player :P

Paul Gallagher: Of course, it's highly likely that he'll be gone but can we please give the player a little bit of credit? Let's not forget about all the world-class 30 yarders he's scored. Don't forget his classic, back against the keeper, penalties (Never seen him miss), free-kicks, team ethnic, etc... Gally was once playing so well for us that Sven said his delivery was 'as good as Beckham'. Please, let's not make out that he was a complete disaster!

Hammond & GTF: Judging by what Pearson says; claiming that everyone who got us to this stage deserves a chance in the Prem, who's to say he's getting rid of anyone. Hammond and GTF don't get the same credit because they don't start games, because they're not young and super athletic. They still do a great job for the club, both on the pitch and off it. The biggest difference between Leicester this year and last is the vast amount of experience that Pearson has added. Why get rid of it?
