davieG Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 Police have taken to social media to issue a warning to fans about racist or homophobic chanting at Leicester City's home tie against Brighton tonight. Yesterday, @leicspolice tweeted: "We won't tolerate racist or homophobic chanting at this Tuesday's game against Brighton. "If you hear it report it to steward or officer." The force promised to review its handling of offensive chanting at Leicester City matches after a Channel Four Dispatches programme, screened last month, showed footage of police apparently taking no action against visiting Millwall and Nottingham Forest fans who were making obscene chants this season. harpendenfox Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 Of course I don't want to hear racist or homophobic chanting at City games, or indeed any other football games, but I never do. Surely the police do not have the time or resources to be getting involved. Or do they simply want to be seen to be making a point. OK I'm a white heterosexual man, but I don't believe that if I were gay or black I would feel any less comfortable at the KP.
Beliall Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 is it homophobic to assume the need to make the statement because brighton are in town?
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 I think, compared to other clubs, out fans are very well behaved when it comes to this sort of thing
Aus Fox Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 If we see a nice heterosexual couple having a good time in the away end, joining in the party the beging too hold hands to which L1 respond with a collective ahhhh and a song about seeing them holding hands. How will the police react?

How will the police react? I think the police will have no other option but to arrest everyone at the game to ensure it doesn't happen ever again!
LAprice_ Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 I don't know if any of you watched the Channel 4 Dispatches programme about football chanting but most homophobic abuse was aimed towards Brighton. Incidentally, most racism was directed at Leicester. I think us Leicester fans will care a lot more about our own club for this one particular game. A stadium full of "WE ARE PREMIER LEAGUE" for 90 minutes will mean that Brighton will get ignored anyway
Tom's Pasta Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 is it homophobic to assume the need to make the statement because brighton are in town? Exactly
Dan Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 is it homophobic to assume the need to make the statement because brighton are in town? Well said my man.
MC Prussian Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 I can't see much abusive chanting directed at Brighton fans, anyway. For that, the majority of our lot are too clever. I'm sure they can come up with something more sophisticated than that.
80footgiraffe Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 I'll be bitterly disappointed if I hear any of it, it's just pathetic. Saw a guy on twitter make a chant about Was and his dad murdering Anne Frank. I hate all this "banter", its not an excuse to be incredibly offensive or inappropriate.

-blue- Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 is it homophobic to assume the need to make the statement because brighton are in town? Excellent point.
Raj Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 is it homophobic to assume the need to make the statement because brighton are in town? Similar to Leics Kops warning Notts Florist fans about racist chanting towards Premier City fans?
Houdini Logic Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 is it homophobic to assume the need to make the statement because brighton are in town? Hate to be a pedant but...er.... no.
Dan Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 The difference us we're nowhere near as bad for it as Forest are. If people are singing about Brighton being full of gays tonight then I despair.
TJB-fox Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 Some of the more fun chants when their fans take it well can be very funny eg 'we can see you holding hands' but when you have middle aged blokes shouting at them about taking it in the arse etc its pretty embarrassing
Beliall Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 Hate to be a pedant but...er.... no. why not? black people come every week, we dont get a statement with each one, only when "the gays" are coming

Houdini Logic Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 why not? black people come every week, we dont get a statement with each one, only when "the gays" are coming I agree that they're stereotyping, you could possibly even say they're 'homo-aware', but there's nothing there to suggest they're being homophobic
purpleronnie Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 So we can still go on the pitch then As long as you don't pull your pants down and chant 'do you want some of this' then yes.
