The Blur Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 They'll probably not be taking into account, possible issues with their machine, if they are using a wi-fi connection and there's interference, and not directly through the router etc. There are potential problems with routers also, with simple solutions such as simply 'resetting' it, not necessarily the ISP. There are sometimes issues with the exchange, but very rare, and sometimes maintenance is needed at the switch (the green or grey box you see on the pavement along your road) - this can be a repair job or something daft an engineer, not necessarily from Virgin has done. If you ring up Virgin you can tell if it's a local issue first. If there's no report, it's something even more local, ie. your router or your wifi connection. I used to work for NTL/Telewest (Virgin), and have had them on/off for years (due to availability), and I'd go with them every single time possible for BB, as I do now, with Sky for my telly. You also can check online for the status of the connection in your area. Sometimes it is down for repair and it also will let you know if there is a issue and whether if it is currently being fixed.
Voll Blau Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 Can't beat a Virgin. Dunno, I'm not overly keen on kingfox.

The Blur Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 Assuming the person has 3G/4G internet on their phone? Yep or you can call someone else to do it for you.
Guest Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Dunno, I'm not overly keen on kingfox. He's no Virgin. Ass like the Mersey tunnel
Grandad. Posted 15 April 2014 Posted 15 April 2014 Right, I pay for the broadband, house phone and Sky TV in my house. All in one package, is there anyway of getting it all cheaper? Ring them up and say something or is it pointless?
Grandad. Posted 15 April 2014 Posted 15 April 2014 Ring them up and threaten to cancel? I've thought about that but I know my luck they will be like "Ok Mr. Grandad, we accept this decision".
Strokes Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 I've thought about that but I know my luck they will be like "Ok Mr. Grandad, we accept this decision".Ring up talktalk, BT etc. get quotes for direct comparisons. They will offer you a good start package, then ring sky and tell them the exact prices and services being offered. They will beat it, i do it every year.
Babylon Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 That's weird, we've been with Virgin since it was NTL and it's never cut out once. Yep, probably had it for the best part of 20 years and ours has only gone off once or twice in that time.
nothin2seehere Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 Virgin broadband is 100% rock solid for me, would easily recommend it. Sent from my LG-V500 using Tapatalk
Babylon Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 You can get sky atlantic on nowtv for £4.99 a month, so anyone with virgin wanting Game of thrones etc can just get that instead of switching.
Finnegan Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 Is there an affordable way to get both Sky Atlantic and a full sport package, with BT and Sky Extra? Like, if you get Sky TV but BT broadband) phone do you still get access to the sports channels? How would that even work? You can get sky atlantic on nowtv for £4.99 a month, so anyone with virgin wanting Game of thrones etc can just get that instead of switching. Should have read that one. In regards the above, this the closest and cheapest I'd get?
Nick Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 I got 12 months half price - Sky tv - (all channels,) HD and On Demand - including sports, movies, entertainment plus (Excluding BT Sport) - Sky phoneline, Sky broadband. 12 month contract. £60 per month, all in.

No offence to anyone with the same/similar packages but how can anyone justify that for watching telly?
Alexikokopops Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 premium TV plus sky sports HD Asked about HD only being on SP1 & 2 Was informed that because I had the full sports package ALL channels will be HD- we shall see! Virgin have recently signed a new deal with Sky for the premiums so you should get all (not just 1&2) in HD no need to worry
danny. Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 That's pretty good - I pay £40 just for BT Infinity (80MB, but get more like 60), and then extra TV channels are another £10 a month. Don't want a phone-line but have to have one as BT still think it's 1983 - the BT YouView box is literally the worst piece of shit I have ever had, the 12 year old PC I used to use for TV with Window Media Center was about 20-30x faster.
stripeyfox Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 I just swapped from Orange (EE) who I had been with for 10 years until the router started playing up recently. Asked them for a new one - they refused, so signed up with BT broadband (got BT Sports included which was the clincher). Orange arseholes cut me off a week early, BT stuff arrived - all plugged in and works loads better than the old router. Please so far, although I have heard BT customer services are a bit cack if it all goes wrong....
Guest ttfn Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 Virgin have recently signed a new deal with Sky for the premiums so you should get all (not just 1&2) in HD no need to worry Looking forward to another £10 on the bill!
Alexikokopops Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 Looking forward to another £10 on the bill! You're in luck, Sky Premium prices aren't changing as a result of this.
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 Been thinking about leaving Sky - might ring Virgin to get a quote and then go back to Sky to see what they can do.
Rincewind Posted 18 April 2014 Posted 18 April 2014 Had a letter off Virgin to say their storage service is ending. They are going to use The Cloud at a charge. Not even sure if I use it ATM. Don't think I do if they are charging.
blue is the colour Posted 29 April 2014 Author Posted 29 April 2014 Well all installed and working but no HD on sports channels other than. Ss1&2 . Phone call in the morning to have a moan. Specifically asked when I switched so not happy
m00nie Posted 29 April 2014 Posted 29 April 2014 had sky for years, would cancel every 12 months and get another 12 month half price deal, found the sky fibre to be poor really so switched to virgin at beginning of the month. and loving it xl tv inc bt sports tivo box downstairs and v hd box in the bedroom weekend phone but we rarely use phone 100mb broadband ( direct into the router gives 100mb wifi is approx 50mb) installer says free upgrade in sept to 150mb £41,99 for 12 months then £67 for 6. went via quidco also for £160 cashback tracked and payment due may 14th we got xbox one and 2 xbosx and 3 laptops all connecting and no noticable issues. free netlfix for 6 month, virgin tv anywhere so can watch on my phone at work etc, use phone app as remote control also my mum has sky sports still so i use sky go for any matches on that i want to watch..
