MikeyT Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 http://www.lcfc.com/news/article/120414-vardy-nearing-return-to-action-1483579.aspx City could welcome Jamie Vardy back into the fold for Monday night’s Sky Bet Championship trip to Reading, but Nigel Pearson will not take risks with his speedy striker. Vardy, who has been out of action since picking up a groin injury in the 2-0 win at Burnley last month, has re-joined first team training ahead of the final five games of the season. But while his Premier League-bound side are intent on securing the league title in the coming weeks, Pearson says his 16-goal front-man must prove his fitness before he is exposed to the title race. “We’ve managed the problem that he’s had and he’s trained a couple of times,†Pearson said in Saturday’s media briefing ahead of the trip to the Madejski Stadium. “He should train today (Saturday) and it’s a case of monitoring how he copes with the loading of training. We’ll make a decision based on how he gets on in the next couple of days. “Jamie’s been an important player for us this season and he wants to get back playing, but we’ll only introduce him into the match scenarios when he is ready for it.†Pearson has no new injury concerns ahead of Monday night’s televised game, but would not be drawn on team selection following his side’s midweek defeat to Brighton. “Regardless of what happened against Brighton, I’ll pick the side I think is best suited to winning the game, as I always do. “I’m not going to get into what the side will be, but I want us to get back to winning ways.†Read more at http://www.lcfc.com/news/article/120414-vardy-nearing-return-to-action-1483579.aspx#pU7BPk5Q0x1rv1BI.99
Larry_LCFC Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 Could be massive. We have really missed his pace.
Finnaldo Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 Nice to know Pearson's taking it steady with his return. I'd rather get a draw and have Vardy back for the last few games than winning and struggling for the last games because he's still out.
Corky Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 We need him back, you see the difference when he plays and doesn't. Wood just isn't the same style of player and Vardy's pace and willingness to run in behind has been a huge factor in our season.
Fox92 Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 I agree we've missed his pace, but I think Nugent has missed him as well. Their partnership is impressive and it's noticeable when one of them is missing.
Mack Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 I think his defending from the front has set the tone quite often this season.
Cincinnati Fox Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 Big cog in team His pace, energy and desire set the tone
Trav Le Bleu Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 We need him back, you see the difference when he plays and doesn't. Wood just isn't the same style of player and Vardy's pace and willingness to run in behind has been a huge factor in our season. Yep, he's constantly running at defenders, keeping them on the back foot and so the opposition can't build from the back. It's not just his goals that have been missed.
Foxes Blue Blood Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 Tomorrow (Sunday 14/4/2014) is one of the cut off dates for yellow cards so now he is safe from suspensions until he reaches 20 yellows.
LCCFox96 Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 Good news. We've definately missed him. We have looked weaker going forward without him. There's no replacement for his work rate and the constant pressure he puts on the opposition defence.
Lobsterboyuk Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 He's been missed since his injury, great news if he does play against Reading
Dan Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 We've missed him a silly amount. We aren't even close to as good going forward without him.
Unabomber Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 Wicked player, can't wait till he is back starting for us.
Vlad the Fox Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 Tomorrow (Sunday 14/4/2014) is one of the cut off dates for yellow cards so now he is safe from suspensions until he reaches 20 yellows. That's good, he can go bazerk for the remaining five games now then.
Guest glasgowfox Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 Amazing....think back 12months and who would have thought we would be missing Jamie vardy .....easy to say but I thought he would come good....honest
Buzzell Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 Big player for us. We have definitely missed his presence in the team. Hope he makes a return with a goal or two against Reading.
Bluetintedspecs Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 As others have stated his defending from the front and blistering pace have been a big miss!
AKCJ Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 We need him back, you see the difference when he plays and doesn't. Wood just isn't the same style of player and Vardy's pace and willingness to run in behind has been a huge factor in our season. Exactly this. It annoys me when City fans call Wood "shit" or "a waste of space" because he's clearly a talented player, but he needs the team built around them. We're set up to counter attack and to hassle the opposition defence with our immense pace. Wood doesn't have that pace.
Livid Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Wood has quality. I just think its got to be Vardy and Wood/Nugent.
Ross 'LCFC' Turner Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Missed him massively. He's going to get my vote for player of the season because of how different the side is without him.
Socks Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Great news, bench him and give him a second half against Reading, then starting all last 4 games
Pegosteve Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 What a difference a year makes! Him and Drinky probably the 2 most influential players we have had this season. Vardy is like a terrier never stops running challenging, assisting and scoring!! Really hope he makes the next step up, but think we need a target man with him. Hard to believe that he finished the 09/10 season playing part time with Stocksbridge PS!! TBH I wouldn't risk him on Monday from the start, give him the last 4 games fully fit.
dynamark Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Talking of pace the team selected last Tuesday had NONE.Rumour some were disciplined but we need a pacy player on each side and despite whatever happened we needed jeff de laet james .In my opinion they should have had Saturday off and back in sunday.Over and done with now but lessons must be learned must be more professional
fuchsntf Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Just a question.... If Vardy isnt ready for tomorrow, could Schlupp play next to Nugent, and then fill in LFB with konch or Moore.
