Leonardo Ulloa (Brighton) - Bid accepted

He scored 7 times in La Liga.

I know, it was a rhetorical question... 7 goals once in a league does not a proven striker make. Beckford got 9 once in the premier and we all know how shit he is.

Oh yeah sorry, I didn't know his stats so I've just found out and thought I'd share my new found knowledge lol

7 isn't prolific.

True but 7 goals in a relegated team isn't horrendous.

He will leave for you but it's just a case of when and to be honest I'd want him to leave now as it's only about a month till the season starts so we'll need to find a replacement. We've been knocked back by Bristol City for Sam Baldock and think our club are trying to get a replacement in before selling Leo to you.

Think we'll accept your last bid to be honest but want a replacement in before selling otherwise when clubs know the fee you've paid then it'll have a knock on affect for the price we have to pay to other clubs.

No-one can say whether Ulloa scoring 7 goals in a La Liga season with Almeria makes him a good signing or a bad signing.

I realise I’m just spitting in the ocean here, but I’ll say it anyway. You can’t judge a striker just on the amount of goals he scores. Vardy and Nugent are both prime examples of this. Their all round game helps the team to WIN GAMES – which is the only real statistic worth measuring.

Yakubu scores goals but the value of his goals has to be weighed against the cost to the team of him spending the other 89 minutes in a deck chair. Beckford scores occasionally - but his all-round game is so bad that he would have to score around 30 a season to make him of any value.

I think Ulloa will help us win games. I don’t care if he does this whilst scoring 7 or 70 goals in a season.

Thanks for your post Brighton - can I ask what makes you think he will leave for us? Is that the word on the street (or pier?) down Brighton way?

Nobody is saying that.

Few reasons. When you hear a rumor then you just laugh but when you start hearing different things and start reading things then the first rumor seems to have some legs.

He does want to play at the highest level (more money as well which will secure his family for life) and Sammy spoke with Ulloa and wants him to stay but when sammy was asked what Ulloa response was then it it gave the indication that Ulloa wants the club to accept your offer. That's my opinion of it.

I watched our friendly at Lewes on Saturday and Ulloa didn't seem interested and it looked like his mind was elsewhere. Ulloa is also unhappy about the lack of investment in the team.

He'll be your player before the season that I'm 100% sure about.

Hope you're right. Think he'd be quality and adds something we lack up top. I reckon he'd enjoy having Vardy buzzing around up top with him. If it's going to happen it would be better for all parties for it to be sooner rather than later.

Well if he does, I hope you can get in someone decent with the money we pay for him.

Lot of respect for Brighton as a club and you (albeit on one occassion last season we were still blind drunk) were the only team to outclass us and deservedly beat us in both games.

Hope SH finally gets you over the line to the Premiership! :)

Now nuge has signed, i don't think we'll be interested in ulloa, but at least the brighton fans will be happy in the knowledge that at the first opportunity he'll be off.

Why won't we be interested in him? He'd be perfect alongside either Nugent or Vardy.

Because they want 10 million for him, and he's not worth 10 million.

That's what the papers are saying, don't believe everything you read.

It cant be far off if we've had a 7 million bid turned down.

I think they just want more money up front, rather than as add-ons.

I have a bit of a concern about Ulloa in that if he comes here as (let's face it) a Championship player on a big fee, he might be weighed down by the expectations. It almost happened to Vardy the season before last - a non-League player saddled with a record transfer fee - and we would have far higher expectations of Ulloa if he arrived here as our all-time record signing and didn't perform.

I'm sure there must be players out there (frankly, outside of England) who we could buy for the equivalent of £10 million and who might set the Premier League on fire. Swansea did it with Michu, so it can be done, and with Steve Walsh's scouting network we should be able to find someone who fits the bill.

Just my two penn'orth.
