Lloyd Dyer to Watford

You don't think we'll be talking about the man who scored the football league title clinching goal, on his weaker foot, for our first promotion in a decade in 20 years time?

Righto then.

I class myself as an oldie and would say he was a bit of a cult hero for me.

Will always remember his part in one of my fave goals of recent years - that cross to danns for the goal against derby. Was screaming obscenities at TV for him booting it aimlessly then danns came into camera shot and finished like a beaut!

Then ability wise my other legends of Elliott and Walsh hardly had the touch of Cruyff either!

Very true.

I doubt we'll be talking about Lloyd in 20 years. That defines a legend for me.

Coatsworth? Ormondroyd?

I think you are very wrong. Dyer's time here personifies cult hero. Inconsistent, occasionally brilliance, a lot of memorable moments. He will be spoken about like Kevin Russell and Tommy Wright currently are.

Thats exactly right yes.

I forgot that the old division 1&2 were pretend trophies.

They're not major trophies. If somebody asked you what cups Leicester had won you wouldn't say League 1 and the Championship would you?

If you think so fair enough. But for a player that has been slagged off as much as he has over the years he's been here, i'm suprised so many people are tagging him a legend.

Yes he scored the goal that clinched the title, but to me, we dominated the season, start to finish. That one goal didnt really seal it in my eyes as it wa pretty obvious about 6 weeks before that we'd win the league.

I like lloyd, I really do. But calling him a legend? Not for me. Would Matty Fryatt be a legend for scoring 20 before christmas? No. Snapshots in a club career dont really make it so.

If he'd have taken the deal offered to him and saw out his career here then maybe i'd feel differently. But to walk away now sours it for me.

This. Winning the championship is nice but promotion is the prize. It doesnt really hurt Burnley that they didnt win the league in the way that it does hurt Liverpool that Man City beat them to the title.

I'm not trying to belittle our achievements but lets not overblow things to suit our argument.

I haven't called him a legend. I've called him a cult hero; and it's that kind of player which people remember.

As for the goal thing, people remember players like Paul James and Larry May who had standard careers at City but scored important goals. In fact May's name came up a lot when Dyer bagged.

So yes Dyer will spoken about in twenty years time.

Sorry pal but I think you mean Tony James.

Makes me sad to think that he's leaving. Surely some sort of agreement can be made! He can do a job in the Prem.

:(

Bloody love the bloke.

Just naming past players doesnt make them legends.

Platenaur? North? Ricky Hill?

See?

I made the point that these players are still talked about (on here at least) 20 years on from when they played. As is Iwan, Julian Joachim.

No reason why Lloyd won't be the same.

We are going to need that kind of pace in the Prem to stand any chance of staying up. It seems madness to let him go for the extra peanuts it will take to keep him. :(

We need composure and ball possession and a stable back four, a spine of players you can depend on to withstand the PL pressure week in, week out.

As much as I love Lloyd for his past commitment and achievements, I can't see him doing all too well as a starter in the Premier League.

I would say the league cup 3 times.

If asked what leagues we had won I would say Div2 the Championship and div 1

Agreed and that's why I said to keep him as an impact sub not necessarily as a starter.

He's been a great servant to the club and in one sense it would be nice to see him play a pert in the Premier League after he did so much to get us there but the reality is he just isn't good enough.

Good luck to him at Watford. I hope he shines for them like he did for us but now is the right time to part ways for both parties.

Watching the footage there again makes me wonder where some of the people on here are coming from. So many people have criticised Dyer for being a 'one trick pony' and having no end product etc,

It's pretty much all bollox. He's been a dangerous player for the club for years, his final ball in is better then people give him credit for and he can't half finish. I'll miss having such a consummate professional at the club and has been one of my favourite players at City over the past few years.
