Lloyd Dyer to Watford

You don't think we'll be talking about the man who scored the football league title clinching goal, on his weaker foot, for our first promotion in a decade in 20 years time?

Righto then.

Who scored the goal that won us League one?

Who scored the goal that won us promotion to the Prem last time?

Who scored the goal that saved us from relegation in 96-97?

I don't know off the top of my head, maybe that's just me, but I remember all the goal scorers in all the play-off final wins, and all the league cup final wins, Lloyd didn't score the goal that won the league, it was just the goal that confirmed what we already knew was going to happed, as previously mentioned Tony James scored the goal that saved us from relegation, but that literally saved us from relegation, likewise Knocky's goal at Forest got us into the playoffs. If Lloyd didn't score that goal, we would have clinched the league the following game.

Now don't get me wrong, I love Lloyd and want him to stay, but he isn't a legend, he's been a great servant, an excellent player, and he is a Leicester hero, but not a legend, a legend does something above and beyond just being a good player playing lots of games, Claridge scored 2 of the most important goals in the club's history, Heskey helped save the club with his own money, Izzett stayed with us when we got relegated.

With greatest respect to Dyer he hasn't done anything other than work hard and play well, and I honestly don't think we will be talking about him in 20 years time, especially if he leaves us now for Watford, for a longer contract, that is not the action of a legend.

Watching the footage there again makes me wonder where some of the people on here are coming from. So many people have criticised Dyer for being a 'one trick pony' and having no end product etc,

It's pretty much all bollox. He's been a dangerous player for the club for years, his final ball in is better then people give him credit for and he can't half finish. I'll miss having such a consummate professional at the club and has been one of my favourite players at City over the past few years.

I think you might be romanticising about him somewhat.

I've always stuck up for him and would gladly have him in the squad next year. But his final ball and shooting is more often than not somewhat wayward.  The blokes shooting is pretty much swing and hit stuff.

Matt Elliot vs Sheff we'd kept us up in 96/97

Good knowledge, my memory is poor so it may just be me that couldn't remember it.

It was a Fryatt double at Southend that both got us promoted and won us the League in 2009. I remember that.

Out of interest I've had to check who sent us up in 2003, Muzzy Izzet and Jordan Stewart scored in a 2-0 home win over Brighton. To be fair though, I was only 14 at the time - and that season is an oddly unmemorable promotion as it came on the back of six years of relatively greater success and we were comfortable for most of the campaign.

I do think Lloyd is a bit of a legend though. Over the last decade we've had some real journeyman tripe on our books, and he was one of the generation of players who put a stop to that. You don't make 265 appearances and win two titles with us without becoming one in my book.

Maybe he's off for the Millions that is Russian football?

I heard he's off to Zenit. #itk

I am still clinging onto the hope he will sit on a beach somewhere and realise he just cant walk away from this chance after all his hard work.

He deserves it more than anyone else in our squad for me, i'd take the year on offer if I was him, Watford etc will still be there in 2015.

Agree with this. Watford will be there next year - that option of championship football will still be there.

No he scored the goal that mathematically ensured we stayed up but we got more points after that and finished in tenth position quite comfortably. So it did not keep us up on it's own.

They're not major trophies. If somebody asked you what cups Leicester had won you wouldn't say League 1 and the Championship would you?

But that's the level we were playing at though.... What more can people do? Are our fans really this arrogant?

I can bet if Lloyd's record with us was from the Prem people would be calling him a legend.

Well we haven't won any cups have we, we've won league titles. Two different things.
