65RosesFox Posted 6 June 2014 Posted 6 June 2014 I can't believe that people still get his name wrong. The way i remember it is to think "I would like to go on a walk in a wood with wood." The way I remember it is, he's the opposite of what Alan Young calls him.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 6 June 2014 Posted 6 June 2014 Wood you believe that. Mods, have a word.
ALC Fox Posted 7 June 2014 Posted 7 June 2014 I can't believe that people still get his name wrong. The way i remember it is to think "I would like to go on a walk in a wood with wood." The way I remember it is that his name is actually Chris Wood. Not Chris Woods. Not James Forrest, Fernando Forestieri or Woodrow Wilson. Not Woody Woodpecker, Ronnie Wood or Woody Allen. Chris Wood. It's not difficult.
HowardsBulletHeader Posted 7 June 2014 Posted 7 June 2014 I'd be more disappointed to lose Wood than Nugent Wow honestly? I really don't understand all of the anti-Nugent stuff on here. Unbelievable.
Mark_w Posted 7 June 2014 Posted 7 June 2014 Wow honestly? I really don't understand all of the anti-Nugent stuff on here. Unbelievable. That's not an anti-Nugent post. I'm very fond of Nuge and I agree. Wood is about six or seven years younger, has just as good a goal scoring record in the Championship when he plays and unlike Nugent hasn't really had a chance to prove himself in the Premier League yet. Nugent has done well for us, and I'll think he'll do pretty well in the Prem this year. But Wood would be the bigger loss.
Thracian Posted 7 June 2014 Posted 7 June 2014 Perhaps people don't easily remember his name because he's been largely anonymous. His achievements elsewhere may point to his being a better player than he's shown at Leicester so far but you don't make a mark being injured or on the fringe of things. Some people grasp their chances while others see them gradually washed away. The thing about Nugent is that he's usually fit, available and ready to do his stint. Wood might have be better remembered as Cood or Shood.
VLC86 Posted 7 June 2014 Posted 7 June 2014 But Wood would be the bigger loss.Would Wood be a bigger loss though? If Wood could Wood would score a few but would Wood stop Vardy from being mardy?I really don't think Wood would but then I think how much could Wood cost should Wood come good?
LCFC FOX Posted 7 June 2014 Posted 7 June 2014 Wow honestly? I really don't understand all of the anti-Nugent stuff on here. Unbelievable. Wood and Nugent are very similar players, yet wood is younger and has a lot of potential. Every time he seem to of came on last season we used him as a target man which isn't his strength. I honestly think him and Vardy could be a great partnership. He's a confident player who will score goals. We just need to not hoof it to him

We don't use Chris Wood to his strengths & I do think he could have a good future with the club. However he isn't ready for the prem yet purely because of the fact that his first touch has been dreadful this year. A loan to a top 6 championship team where he would be a key player, would benefit us & him.
Guest Posted 7 June 2014 Posted 7 June 2014 Wolves just made a £1.1m bid. Wood keen on the move.. He's young and a natural goalscorer. I'd keep him but if we let him go it'll be for a damn sight more than that.

Nugent is quicker, plays off the shoulder of the last defender, runs into channels, instinctively knows where to be. Wood is slower, more laboured, but has a good touch for a big man. Finally, I think Nugent is better in the air than Wood. Personally, I rate Nugent (and always have) as a cut above Wood. I think he's a much better player.

It's through no fault of his own but we turn ugly when we bring him on, Nuge would be a bigger loss by far, much more important part of the team at the present time - forget resale value etc. I've no doubt Wood could be a success elsewhere as he's already shown, but it doesn't feel like it's clicking here. Loan him out and see how he comes on.
Marmite Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 I agree with other posters, providing we sign and additional striker then loan him out to get game time and scoring more regularly. When you YouTube some of his goals for Millwall when he was on loan from West Brom it baffles me what's happened to him
sphericalfox Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 I've said this well before we were confirmed promoted, but it seems like Waghorn, when on a loan spell he does wonders, and once signed either can't live up to the expectations or becomes complacent. I like Wood, and I do think he could do a job in the Prem eventually. Loaning him to Wolves would be better than selling him, but it's likely they'll be pushing for promotion again and playing under Jackett might get the best out of him, but then he is unlikely to want to come back. I would be inclined to loan him, if possible to another promotion contender, get his confidence up, some goals under his belt, and return (a la Wickham) to us with what he has to offer.
Babylon Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 Wood could be a good player for a team that plays to his strengths, we can't change the way we play for him though. I would definitely only loan him, a decent season in the champ and you'd be getting more than £1.1m for him.

Babylon Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Come on Col what games have you been watching,Chris Wood has a terrible first touch... Actually I disagree with both of you and agree with both of you. He is inconsistent with his touch. when he's having a good game his touch can be incredible, you look through some of his goals and assists his close control and strength has made him unplayable. When he's having a bad game the ball will hit him and bounce half a mile away. He's young and that can improve though, Vardy's touch seems to have come on leaps and bounds since he arrived.

Mike Oxlong Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Chris Wood makes me think of that film - White Men Can't Jump

LAprice_ Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 People are quick to assume that because he's 3 inches taller than Nugent, Wood should be percieved as a typical target-man. He's not a target man. He's a goal scorer. His strengths are not in the air. His strengths are working with the ball at his feet. Yeah, he should possibly be a bit more physical but I think there's more to it than that... Was he not playing with an injury for most of last season?
Rob1742 Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Wood won't be going anywhere. Not permanent anyway. On too much wonga now we have gone up. No chance of a permanent move, no chance.
