johnny the fox Posted 25 June 2014 Posted 25 June 2014 We need more backroom staff, perfect fit surely?
SemperEadem Posted 25 June 2014 Posted 25 June 2014 Can I ask why you think we need more backroom staff?
StanSP Posted 25 June 2014 Posted 25 June 2014 We need more backroom staff, perfect fit surely? Why? And who's to say Powell will want to come back given that he's at managerial level now?
johnny the fox Posted 25 June 2014 Author Posted 25 June 2014 Seen in several publications, that we are short on backroom staff..don't shoot me down, just asking the question..I really rate the bloke.

Bert Posted 25 June 2014 Posted 25 June 2014 Why? And who's to say Powell will want to come back given that he's at managerial level now? With a all due respect I only think he was offered the job out of sentiment at Charlton and it's what the fans wanted. Why wouldn't he want to come back? Steve McClaren went back to being a coach at QPR. Gets Powell back in the work frame and a possible window for new job opportunities.
Guest MattP Posted 25 June 2014 Posted 25 June 2014 Think he'll be looking for first team management opportunities now anyway. I'm sure Nigel trusts what he has already anyway, it seemed ok last year.
Gary Eatfood Posted 25 June 2014 Posted 25 June 2014 Ok. sounds like a no.. close thread.. I'd have him back if only for his pre-match antics with Conrad Logan.

CKB Posted 25 June 2014 Posted 25 June 2014 If it was the right deal for all parties involved then why not?

Mack Posted 26 June 2014 Posted 26 June 2014 Seems like a good idea to me. I remember him taking the back 4 off for a pre match warm up before games, then of course the penalties! There's a stiff challenge not far ahead, and Powell has good knowledge of the top flight, if he'd come then seems like a no brainer.
Silverdaz Posted 26 June 2014 Posted 26 June 2014 Dont forget with have Phillips now as part of the backroom staff
thybluefox Posted 26 June 2014 Posted 26 June 2014 Not long after he went I remember it seeming like we'd lost a little bit of organisation. That's been solved now though...
Marmite Posted 26 June 2014 Posted 26 June 2014 Even if he came back on a short term deal it would benefit all parties
LCCFox96 Posted 26 June 2014 Posted 26 June 2014 Powell and Phillips in the back room staff team - that's some real experience for the younger members of the squad to look up to. If Powell struggled the get a job I could see him wanting to come back for a short term role until another managerial position became available, especially as we are now premiership level. Whether that is something Pearson would want is a different matter all together.
Babylon Posted 26 June 2014 Posted 26 June 2014 We need more backroom staff What are we basing this on? Having one of the best seasons in the clubs history = we need more staff.
sylofox Posted 26 June 2014 Posted 26 June 2014 With a all due respect I only think he was offered the job out of sentiment at Charlton and it's what the fans wanted. Why wouldn't he want to come back? Steve McClaren went back to being a coach at QPR. Gets Powell back in the work frame and a possible window for new job opportunities. That's just the reason not to have him back. The owners NP and the rest of the club are trying to build something. However good he may be why bring him in and give him that window. We need and want people here for the long haul or not here at all. We do not need to be building reputations and putting them in a window for someone else to reap the rewards. Yes we will lose staff as bigger clubs come in for them or as NP see's fit to let them go. But not take someone on to give them the window. All or nothing our owners will look after the staff if we get the results. The main reason we came up was a stable enviroment and squad our owners did not panic and make changes.
Lichfieldfox. Posted 26 June 2014 Posted 26 June 2014 He should never have been sacked by Charlton as was doing a good job given the resources at his disposal.
