Kingpower corporate branding vs Leicester's traditional colours?

Recommended Posts

I've just been reading the thread about our kit and thought there was some interesting talk about a perceived shift away from what I believe is our traditional blue and white colours towards blue and gold. Whilst I was reading that I remember an interview I saw of Top talking about why our owners bought the club, alongside all the talk about football he mentioned that our colours were similar to the King Power brand. Well, I guess that makes it all the more easy to, almost stealth like, make them exactly the same. I have mixed feeling about it.

You can see here that blue and gold is a big part of Kingpower corporate identity. Looks like the gold is here to stay. And I have mixed feelings about that, even if it does seem to be the world we live in.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest to be honest. For me, the blue is the most important part of our kit. As long as the blue remains the prominent feature of our kit, I don't really mind if we have gold/white detailing, or a mixture of both.

Really doesn't bother me, we've had gold/yellow/orange as a secondary/3rd colour for a long time and theres so many clubs in blue who have white as a secondary colour I think gold will give us more individual identity anyway. As for the King Power brand I think they have done a lot for the club especially if we go onto bigger things from now so I have no problem with the brand connection

I guess one could congratulate the owners of Kingpower for doing their homework and business analysis before purchase. I am certainly delighted with have them and not a Vincent Tan type of character.
I wonder if they would have bought us if we played in red? Probably not! On such small things....

Like the owners I don't think it's too intrusive. We have to accept they bought the club for both business and pleasure so as long as their interests doesn't conflict with ours as fans then we have to accept the very minor changes they make for continued success.

One would presume that "a lot" of research has gone into all decisions at this multi-million pound organisation (which is led by extremely successful people with a background in strong marketing and public trends).

Everybody relax.  Premiership football + global branding = sustainability.  Tradition is important, but it doesn't pay the bills.

We are still blue and white, predominantly blue shirts and white shorts. Let's not forget that the club, under English owners, have played in all white and all blue before.

Yes, the gold might not be essential but I doubt other sets of fans would see it as changing tradition.

Ive heard complaints from King Power that they are losing their branding by being taken over by Leicester City. Racist bastards

Edit, even their awards are "Fox" based

I've made my views on the matter pretty clear in the other thread. I think it's wrong and it's not just the kit, it's the general experience of going to a Leicester match now.

You are surrounded by King Power and other Thai companies, which I understand is a necessity in some ways, but how about some mention of our history and tradition? It's all gone a bit too far, unnecessarily in my opinion.

To people who don't mind the colour change, would you mind if the colour wasn't gold and was instead red, green, pink?

Everything I've seen suggests their primary colour is blue, white is secondary and gold is used for flourishes.

Every brand that buys into a club plasters itself all over the club, the  Thais have done it tastefully in comparison with others. We are still readily identifiable as Leicester City but have the benefit of wealthy and seemingly rational owners, just enjoy it. It might go tits up one day but for now it's going well and there's **** all you can do either way.

I understand where they're trying to go. I am happy to comprise with the occasional flash of gold rather than go through what Cardiff and Hull had to endure!

Well yeah cause that would look f'in awful!!

As long as we still play in primarily blue, I'm not too fussed. One of our original colours was gold so it's hardly anything new. If they were to change it to red, then I'd be annoyed, but as long as the blue is still there I'm not too concerned. As they're from Thailand, a country respectful of its traditions, the owners strike me as the sort who won't threaten the tradition of the club.

Accent colours are fine. Over the years we've had red, yellow, orange, navy etc. so I can't really complain if there's a tiny bit of gold going on (even if I find the shade we're using at the moment a bit vom-inducing).

But I assume in the past those colours were chosen because the designers thought they looked good with blue and white. This has clearly been done to fit in with King Power's corporate branding. Just because it's not on the level of those utter salads Tan and Allam doesn't mean we shouldn't be allowed to be cynical or uncomfortable about it.

There are just two traditions I want to keep and that's us playing in Blue and keeping the badge as a fox. Over prolonged periods of times you expect slight changes and modification to kits. I don't know exactly what the new kit looks like yet but if as expected there are flashes of gold, then so what? I'd certainly be anoyed if the home kit was gold with flashes of blue but it's not.

We have survived transitions from being Leicester Fosse to Leicester City, eventually adding the fox to our kit in the 1940's I think. We survived moving from our previous home of many years, Filbert Street to what is now the King Power stadium. For the love of god I am sure we can survive having a little bit of gold on our TRADITIONALLY BLUE KIT.

The owners have wiped off our £103m debt, gained us promotion to the Premier League. I think they are entitled to a little gold on the home kit if they want.

Compared to other clubs we have fantastic owners who understand not to get too involved when running the club, yet still fans moan because our traditional second colour on our home kit may not be as prominent.

Just imagine the uproar on here if we actually had real problems and crticisms of our owners!

That's the stupidest argument I've ever heard. Putting gold on our shirts is not going to be a big factor in making us sustainable.

All it is is arrogance from people who know they can do what they like cos they're in charge.

and if putting a little gold on the home shirt is all they want to do, it's hardly a big deal in my opinion.

I can think of teams with Owners that have, or tried to do a lot more to completely ruin a clubs traditions.

1. Yellow. Not orange, not gold.

2. 3rd colour yes, not clear 2nd colour. At worst yellow has had an even amount as white on 1 or 2 kits, until the last couple of seasons it has never been a secondary colour. And we've certainly never had this ugly gold colour we have now.

3. You sound like one of those teenagers who becomes a goth to get noticed; grasping at gold to give the club a unique 'identity'. The point of having an identity is staying true to yourself, not changing just so that you stick out. I bet you're one of those who thinks we should pretend we hate Coventry more so that we can have a 'real rivalry'.

4. The King Power Brand has got us to the top flight, a place we've been many times before without them. I'm not about to start kissing their arses no matter what they do.

Some people are way too accepting of this, that is making me uncomfortable in itself.
