Finnegan Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 Also, I know we haven't turned up but losing at home to Cyprus? Yeah, Bosnia are class.
Donut Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 Really? More than Portugal losing at home to Albania? WAY more. Albania are a respectable nation who have picked up many wins in the past against good opposition.
J.Lisemore Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 Really? More than Portugal losing at home to Albania? True, was a mega shock. Although I think even Albania would beat Andorra pretty comfortably. Really? More than Portugal losing at home to Albania? True, was a mega shock. Finnegan Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 WAY more. Albania are a respectable nation who have picked up many wins in the past against good opposition. And Portugal are serial tournament quarter / semi finalists. We haven't qualified for anything since the fifties and finished bottom two of our last couple of groups. Edit: probably slight exaggeration.
Donut Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 Iceland 3-0 Turkey , Bosnia-H 1-2 Cyprus ... wow Iceland nearly qualified for the world cup, thats not a shock at all
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 A) Albania are much, much better than Andorra. A country mile. B) There idiot manager didn't play Ronaldo. If Wales hadn't of played Bale this evening they'd of lost as well, against far inferior opposition.
StanSP Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 Comical error from Netherlands' Janmaat! Tries to head it back to the keeper, goes on to the post and Pilar knocks it in on the line lol
Finnegan Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 Darryl Janmaat makes me feel infinitely better lol
sphericalfox Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 Arsene is going to love seeing Ramsey hobbling off.
Donut Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 Taking out San Marino and Andorra, the smaller European nations are making significant strides in quality.
Finnegan Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 Well I'm delighted. Not many teams go to Catalonia and get a win. Good result that.
Corky Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 King playing as lone striker for Wales at the moment Could you imagine the grief Pearson would get on here if he did that on Saturday? Was always going to take a moment of brilliance to win it (given the way Wales were struggling to create real chances) and Bale provided it.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 Albania are obviously much better than Andorra, but I'd say that Portugal are the same difference ahead of Wales.
Guest MattP Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 Taking out San Marino and Andorra, the smaller European nations are making significant strides in quality. Andorra were woeful to be honest. Turned into a superb night for Wales. Bosnia losing is a real shocker. Anything could happen in this group by the looks of it.
Donut Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 Albania are obviously much better than Andorra, but I'd say that Portugal are the same difference ahead of Wales. Everyone beats Andorra, theyve won 1 game in their entire history and have builders, bakers and candlestick makers playing for them Albania are a tidy outfit that Michael Owen described after a 2-0 win to England as the most underrated team in Europe. Its not half as embarrasing for Portugal to have lost as if Wales hadnt have won. Sure, Portugal would have expected to have won and routinely, but Albania are a decent outfit
marko Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 I can't work out if Dean Saunders has been hit with a death ray or had a bad experience with botox.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 Just saw on tele that was Andorra's first goal in competitive football for four years! they are miles and miles behind Albania. Albania are actually a decent team and capable of giving any side a game
Asha Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 Wales international football team is the gift that keeps on giving. Scraping a win against Andorra lol lol
Guest Bilo Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 To put tonight's result into perspective for Wales, here are Andorra's results for their qualification campaign for the World Cup. Andorra 0-1 Estonia Andorra 0-5 Hungary Andorra 0-2 Netherlands Andorra 0-4 Romania Andorra 0-2 Turkey Estonia 2-0 Andorra Hungary 2-0 Andorra Netherlands 3-0 Andorra Romania 4-0 Andorra Turkey 5-0 Andorra As poor as they are, they rarely get an absolute beasting like San Marino due to their ultra defensive tactics. Every once in a blue moon, they'll fluke a goal as they did tonight and it's all very embarrassing for the team who concede. Wales got through with an unconvincing win and will clearly need to improve as the tournament goes on, but Bosnia's defeat to Cyprus opens things up a little if they can play to their potential, that second place behind Belgium may not be beyond them if they get a bit of a break.
Asha Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 I've been totally surprised by the first week of results, there's been so many shocks. Group A tonight for example, the Czechs beating the Netherlands and Iceland turning over Turkey. We're gonna have some interesting teams in the finals, that's for sure.

To put that into perspective they scored more goals against Wales tonight than they did in the entirety of their last qualifying campaign and were 9 minutes away from their first point in nearly 10 years.

When you put it like that, it's pretty awful! That being said, Wales have the three points and the circumstances will be all but forgotten if they qualify. I doubt that makes it any better for the Wales supporters who headed out there though, their very own Gualtieri moment right in front of them. If something similar can happen when Gibraltar play Scotland, we can call ourselves even.

I dont see how Iceland beating Turkey is a shock. Icelandic football is in the best period in its history, and they were a playoff away from the world cup. Maybe the ease of victory was a surprise, but not the win itself
