Marseille right back, very experienced in the French league. Cover for De Laet or replacement? Not sure how credible the source is but interesting anyhow. Plenty of jokes to come about the name too!!

Hope the away fans don't give him too much stick. Imagine Stringer reading the team sheet with a straight face -  Moore, Fanni.

Shame he's not a striker 'cos Wood & Fanni rolls off the tongue.

Aside from the jokes about the sex box. Think he'll come in handy this season, extra experience and cover, as well as challenging RDL for the right back spot. Anyone know why he was frozen out at Marseille?

Marseille right-back Rod Fanni has arrived in England for talks with Leicester City, Goal has learned.

The 32-year-old, who has five France caps, is surplus to requirements at the Stade Velodrome and has been told that he can find a new club, having fallen out with OM's management.

Newly promoted Leicester have now made a move and Fanni is set to link up with the Foxes on Monday.

The former Rennes defender will train with Leicester over the next 48 hours while a deal is hammered out.

Fanni has a £800,000 release clause in his contract but it understood that he could now leave for half that amount, with Marseille happy to see the back of his high salary.

Although he has primarily played at right-back throughout his career, including under Raymond Domenech for France, he can also play at centre-back.

Sounds like a solid signing. Until we see him play we won't know if he is an improvement or just back-up.

He is our versatile defender. So with Fanni being added we have RB covered (2/3) and CB covered (5 when Upson returns). We still need a starter at LB which will take cover there to 2/3.

Next should be Cambiasso and an attacking player and we'll be sorted.

How high is this salary?

We don't want to be stuck with high wages. Period.

 

Quick search of the internet suggests that he is on around €28K a week as of last season, that is a hefty chunk in france maybe.

He can play Centre half just as well as Right Back.

 

Would be ideal if we ever decide to go 5 at the back as the right sided centre half.

Would be a great signing. Fantastic cover, and will be good competition for RDL. Another CM (Cambiasso), and a winger and i think we will be ok.
