Chelsea 2-0 Leicester - Post Match Discussion

Probably already been mentioned but I've just realised that our start this time is almost identical to 2003/04. I remember then we were saying how well we had played in the first two games. Hopefully history won't repeat itself, I just fear we'll be unlucky Leicester playing good football but not picking up points. I am massively pessimistic about Leicester in general though...

It's slightly different as the first game saw us throw away a 2-0 lead late in the game, leaving everyone feeling deflated. This time, we came back twice with a weakened team against the fifth best team last season, far more positive after the game.

Interesting to see if Nige plays him tonight, could be a good chance to get off the mark even if cup goals don't count, but then another blank could heap more pressure on him.

He's had barren spells before though and always come back.

A couple of very good points. Nugent has always bounced back. Then again, so has many others in our squad when the pressure is on (Vardy, DD, King, Hammond, ect.)

If he does play, it will be for confidence after that shot. I have faith that he’ll bounce back.

No, don't you start now! As the guy said, different circumstances. We're fought our way back against Everton, and Chelsea away was always a big ask. But yes, very valid point. We look good against the top sides, yes. It will mean nothing if we can't put away the 'Lower 12.' We know how the typical adage goes: Win at home, get at least a draw away. We did that pretty well last year. We've got excitement, yes, but it means diddy squat if we can’t convert it.

I’m honestly expecting that we push for a win against Stoke. I don’t care if it’s away. That is the sort of match we should be winning.

It's too early to be a bit down. Surely you've seen enough to dare to think we might get something Arsenal?

Seriously watch it back, I think it is Oscar on his right, he has a little look both sides before receiving the ball and he is about a yard behind and a couple of yards to his right, he looks again after his first touch, by this point the Chelsea player has slowed down to appeal for offside. He could see the Keeper and the covering defender, he couldn't see if anyone was coming from his right, he sees he is in the clear, slows and composes himself to slot it past Courtois.

As soon as Mahrez gets the ball he's looking to see where the space is and that's where he goes. His last look is clearly at the linesman, it's really really obvious. Painfully so. He looks directly at him.  I can't believe your even attempting to argue otherwise, if he wanted to see where Oscar was he'd  of looked behind him there is no reason why Oscar would be 90 degrees to his right.

Even if you are right (which you clearly are not) looking for Oscar is just as bad anyway, it's the same thing, there's nothing but grass between you and the goal you go at goal if you get caught you get caught if your offside your offside.

It's an excellent chance, some people go OTT with their reactions to him missing as you've pointed out players twice as good as him have missed simpler chances but he should still score there is no escaping that. I think he had a pretty decent game and should get the nod Sunday but if he keeps missing chances like that then changes need to be made, we can't carry David Nugent if he's not going to improve on his previous poor showings at this level.

so that's now penalties and cup goals that don't count.

Oh come on Cap lol defend him by all means but don't talk utter drivel he's clearly looked directly at the Linesman, the whole reason he pulled out to the right in the first place was because he knew there was space there!

He clearly thought he saw his little friend

We were quality in the first half and there were a lot of positive stuff on display. Hopefully we show the positive stuff against Arsenal.

You're both right of course. I'm just weary of counting our chickens I suppose. We've given a good account of ourselves so far but I've always maintained it's going to be a lot tougher to stay up than a lot of people on here.

This is slightly off topic but I was appalled to hear racist remarks from Leicester supporters at Stamford bridge on Saturday. I never thought I'd hear that sort of language from Leicester City fans. I have approached Leicester City, Chelsea and the FA this morning. It had taken me a while to come forward but I didn't know whether or not to pursue it but my friends and family insisted that I do.

What was being said, if you don't mind saying??  And well done in reporting the matter!!!

Branislav Ivanovic had tackled a Leicester player rather aggressively and tried to con the ref by saying he didn't touch him. The ref have a free kick and a person sitting near me shouted, 'you ****ing foreign bastard'

Then towards the end of the game Willian was lying in the centre circle and I heard someone else, not the same person, shout, 'get up you ****ing wog'

I was, as I said stunned and appalled by this. I've never heard any remarks like this ever in football and thought I'd never hear it from my own fans. I've written to Chelsea, LCFC, the Premier League and also the FA. I want something done about this as to keep quiet would only let these racists win

Nice one.

Not usually one for grassing on other football fans but I wholeheartedly support reporting racism.

I would say the first comment doesn't really warrant a complaint but the second one absolutely does and fair play to you for following it through.

FourtyFour i'm proud of you, that kind of language is not acceptable, I hope the last guy gets banned for good!!

Who decides? Not sure you can rank offensiveness of mere words. Offense lies with the offendee so either we report everything or we just try and educate people not to be dicks.

Precisely this.  It's the intended purpose rather than the word which is offensive, so even though guy #1's using 'light' racist language, he's still very much being a racist cvnt and deserves as much of a ban as the 2nd idiot.

Like Ivanovic I work abroad with foreign people and if someone called me a foreign willy puller (although I am lol ) I'd be upset. Although I'm a sensitive soul. I doubt Branislav gives a shit.

"Racism" is an umbrella term, we need more words to describe different levels of racism because being part of a lynch mob and calling someone a "foreign bastard" are both racist but one issue is far greater than the other.

Agreed, it's also technically racist. Dictionary definition being as follows:

'Prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior:'

Not really disagreeing with you, just saying that if I had heard that I (and I imagine a lot of other people) wouldn't have complained about it. However when "wog" is used I would complain. I think it's a combination of the word itself AND the intended purpose, not one or the other.

Posted

I think the first one is less bad because there's a generalisation that foreign players dive while the second one is just racist.

Actually it's the second one with the word wog in it that you're defending there.  Not that a racist generalisation is a good defence of racist behaviour anyway...
