Guest Col city fan Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 I still can't come to terms with Nugent's miss. Christ! Strikers miss chances all the time! Get over it!
Burbo17J2 Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 But some people are writing him off. I've seen comments such as 'he's not a premiership player' . That's a little different to 'he was poor yesterday' (which he was in my opinion) Well that is pushing it too far, he is certainly too good for the championship, but if you need someone to pop up with a couple of important goals, he wouldn't be the man IMO
dedlock Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 Christ! Strikers miss chances all the time! Get over it! And good goalkeepers regularly save......even with their feet!
MC Prussian Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 I agree with that, as they said on Match Of The Day last night in the championship he would have buried that easily. It's all about the first goal, if can get one it'll be massive boost for him Thing is, you won't find any goalkeeper with the same talent and impact on his team such as Thibaut Courtois yesterday. He was omnipresent in his box and came up with some decent saves and displayed great reflexes. His positioning was also excellent. In short, he was on fire.
dynamark Posted 25 August 2014 Posted 25 August 2014 Very promising first two games but on the limit physically. Why why why did GTF come on -it had to be Anthony with Schlupp moving inside.Down one nil needed something to get back in the game. Arsenal were very poor for much of their game this weekend so nothing to fear.
Dickov22 Posted 25 August 2014 Posted 25 August 2014 I honestly think Nugent's look across to the linesman was a player desperately short on confidence hoping for a split second he was offside.

Dickov22 Posted 25 August 2014 Posted 25 August 2014 lol wtf. I'm not the only one who's said it. Have you played football? If so, you might consider the same thing. The bloke never ever looked confident. Just an opinion
65RosesFox Posted 25 August 2014 Posted 25 August 2014 I honestly think Nugent's look across to the linesman was a player desperately short on confidence hoping for a split second he was offside. After Courtois saved it he may have hoped he was offside. But suggesting a striker who is one on one is hoping the linesman raises his flag rather than him having an opportunity to score is beyond ridiculous, no matter how low on confidence he may be (which i don't really understand considering it's game 2 and he had a good pre season)

I definitely think he's low on confidence. It's just my opinion. Did you think when he was running through on goal he ever looked like scoring? I remember that great goal he scored at home to QPR last season, his demeanour was totally different. On Saturday I don't think he ever thought he'd score that chance

On Saturday I don't think he ever thought he'd score that chance I think it was more of a shock factor that he was clear through one on one at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea, with the chance to put Leicester ahead. In a way I think he had too much time on his hands, had too much thinking time and didn't know what to do. If he less time to think it may have been a different outcome.
Stuliasz Posted 25 August 2014 Posted 25 August 2014 I'm not the only one who's said it. Have you played football? If so, you might consider the same thing. The bloke never ever looked confident. Just an opinion Are you suggesting a professional footballer, a striker playing in the Premier League, wanted to be offside to relieve himself of the responsibility and pressure of scoring a one-on-one? Although I do agree with you that he displayed little confidence in how he took that chance, I can't believe the above is the case. To be fair, not too many of his open play goals last season came through one-on-ones like he had on Saturday so maybe it's just an aspect of his game he's not comfortable with.
StanSP Posted 25 August 2014 Posted 25 August 2014 It's absolute bollocks that he wants to be offside before he's taken the opportunity. Not having that at all. Doesn't even matter if more than one person to has said it . Doesn't make it right!

On Saturday I don't think he ever thought he'd score that chanceI like nugent but he frustrates me, I agree he doesn't look confident, but he said he has something to prove in the prem, as he didn't cut it first time round, so he needs to find some belief and confidence quick. As I say I like the lad, and have defended him last season, but with vardy coming back Leo or nugent will probably lose their place, and if nugents confidence is low now, being dropped is going to do him no good. I'm sure if he can get a goal soon he will soon get the confidence back.
ealingfox Posted 25 August 2014 Posted 25 August 2014 Unfortunately the point raised on MOTD is correct. People were regularly critical of Nugent's wastefulness last year, but it was glossed over and shot down because he scored a few penalties. Last year he was getting 3 opportunities like that in a game, and because he could put one away people forget the two he missed. Afraid to say that this will be exposed this season.
dannythefox Posted 25 August 2014 Posted 25 August 2014 Everyone banging on about Nugent it simple he's not good enough for the prem he's needs 3/4 chances to score 1 goal he did even last season only scored 10 from open play. IMO Vardy would of rounded the keeper and slotted it home he loves them situations.

Only person who knows is Nuge himself.

I like Nugent, at times last season I thought he was average, a lot of his pens were quite lucky to go in, but then he'd score some absolute belters like the goal at Burnley, and at home to QPR. I think he deserves his chance in this division, but in the first two games I think he's been our worst player in both. I hope he bangs one in against Arsenal to get his confidence back Are you suggesting a professional footballer, a striker playing in the Premier League, wanted to be offside to relieve himself of the responsibility and pressure of scoring a one-on-one? It is one of the most ridiculous things I've seen on here. Why would a player, who thrives on goals, wish he was offside and so be denied a chance to score? Utterly ridiculous.
Guest Col city fan Posted 25 August 2014 Posted 25 August 2014 Wasnt it only a few weeks ago where everyone was saying Nugent looked trim and sharp when he was banging goals in during pre season. Now after two games (two) he's apparently short of confidence! Can't people just give it a bit of time and give us a chance? Or are you saying, after two games (two) that he's not good enough? Jeez...

Harry - LCFC Posted 25 August 2014 Posted 25 August 2014 I honestly think Nugent's look across to the linesman was a player desperately short on confidence hoping for a split second he was offside. He does it all the time tbf. Clean through with a bit of time the first thing he does is to look across. Just did it a bit later this time for some reason. Can't imagine he helped himself by doing it though.
Master Fox Posted 25 August 2014 Posted 25 August 2014 I remember the game 10 years ago at the Bridge when Deano was through 1 on 1 and headed it onto the bar. We deserved a goal for all our efforts. I think if we had scored first we may have got a point or even the win.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 25 August 2014 Posted 25 August 2014 Definitely think all the slagging off of Nugent isn't justified, but also think the blind defending of him is equally as bad. Looking across when he did was unforgivable and certainly cost him/the team a goal. Why he didn't get his head up and pick his spot is anyones guess, but if he does that every time he's through on goal he won't score many this season so hopefully he'll learn from it and play to the whistle in future and concentrate on what he should be.
