lol

Wasnt it only a few weeks ago where everyone was saying Nugent looked trim and sharp when he was banging goals in during pre season. Now after two games (two) he's apparently short of confidence!

Can't people just give it a bit of time and give us a chance?

Or are you saying, after two games (two) that he's not good enough?

Jeez...

No, I was saying it last season too, as were lots of others. However, whenever anyone tried to bring it up, the general reply was  "lolz penalties dnt count lolz".

Without wanting to seem like I'm scapegoating Nugent, I do very much hope Big Nige is planning on giving Ulloa & Vardy a go at some point.

How many of our strikers are fantastic in those type of situations though? Vardy misses a few like that, Nugent does, Wood doesn't often get them, no idea about Ulloa.

Even Vardy's rounding of the keepers last season comprised of one touch (Millwall home, Barnsley away) then finish. Our strikers are far more clinical without time to really analyse and think, or are first time finishes.

Not good enough, nowhere near.

Championship striker.

Nice and perceptive. Love how willing you are to show faith in a player that contributed massively to one of the best seasons in our history.

Definitely think all the slagging off of Nugent isn't justified, but also think the blind defending of him is equally as bad. Looking across when he did was unforgivable and certainly cost him/the team a goal. Why he didn't get his head up and pick his spot is anyones guess, but if he does that every time he's through on goal he won't score many this season so hopefully he'll learn from it and play to the whistle in future and concentrate on what he should be.

Not sure who that's directed at but I'm not saying looking across was forgiveable as it clearly had a bearing on if he finished the chance or not. But what I do find bizarre is the alleged reasoning for his looking across. As if he'd look across in the hope he was offside.

Nugent made a mistake looking over - I think he was expecting the flag to go up - but he has to play to the whistle and not worry about the linesman.

Yes it was silly thing to do which probably cost us the goal and would have meant we would be 1 - 0 up against Chelsea.

Thing is he knows better than any of us it was a silly thing to do - and has probably beaten himself up about it. Doubt very much he'll do it again - and he's scored enough goals without looking over to the linesman to show this was a one off thing. It's frustrating when you're looking to pull off a shock result against the title favourites but he has put in a lot of effort in both the games so far and has had a good preseason.

Its a long season yet - lets not chastise anyone for a single mistake (no matter how defining) in one match

Let's just hope he makes up for it against Arsenal :)

Well that's silly, as he clearly is good enough for the Championship (if he's not is what your suggesting) and several seasons of decent goal scoring show you that. he's hit 14 and 15 for us in consecutive seasons without being the clubs penalty taker to go with last seasons 20, Vardy only hit 16 last season and is viewed as the second coming by many on here. That would be why you got such cynical responses, you fully deserved them.

Premier League I will admit I have and always have had my reservations but he's earned a go at it. He wont hold on to his place if he keeps missing chances like that but I think it's a bit harsh to hang him out to dry for one bad miss after two games. Obviously anyone but the most blinkered can see its a bad miss no matter what Courtois does but all forwards miss easy chances, as I said earlier in the thread at least he managed to work two decent opportunities in the game which was more than his 8 million pound strike partner managed.

Not aimed at anyone particular, certainly not you, just stating that going through the thread seems to be a lot of people saying there's no way he's up to it and a lot of people saying leave out the criticism for the obvious mistake of looking over and costing the goal because saying anything remotely negative about a player is out of order. The truth is clearly somewhere in the middle. It was a stupid thing to do and it did cost us, and while he's certainly earned his chance not sure too many feel certain he can deliver the goals/performances to keep us up, but as pointed out quite often we're not really sure about that with a lot of the team, so just got to see how he gets on and hope for the best. He does seem to get singled out a lot for criticism, he did last season as well.

Even if he'd scored, I still think we'd have gone on to lose the game. Chelsea stepped up a few gears in the second half and we couldn't cope.

What!!!!... Not even with the mighty Midfield general GTF on the pitch snuffing out Fabregas!

Ha ha. I couldn't believe it when he came on.

Jeez some people are going over the top.

First of all who says he is looking at the linesman? Why couldn't he be checking to see if there is any one coming from the right to tackle him, or seeing if he has anyone in support.

He probably couldn't believe he was through on goal and could have been checking to make sure he isn't going to get caught.

Second why is his shot lacking in confidence? He didn't spoon it wide or over he looked to place it round Courtois and into the bottom corner. That was a great and slightly fortunate bit of goalkeeping that just got the smallest nick on it and saved Chelsea's bacon.

I see nobody is questioning Fabregas' confidence when Kasper saved brilliantly from him.

There is some utter drivel spouted in this thread including assumptions that a 'Premiership' striker would score that. Which is bollocks I see those sort of chances missed every week on MOTD.

He missed, we lost, why can't we move on without turning on one of our own, someone who has proved himself time and again to our fickle fans.

Sorry but... find me a striker in football that takes every opportunity. They all need three or so chances before they stick one away.

Does Messi score every shot? Probably the stupidest cliché going.

I think the Championship is just about Nugents level but he's deserved a shot at the top flight and he's good enough to be a squad player with Vardy and Ulloa leading the line, imo.

nugent needs 3 or 4 chances > andy cole needed 7 or 8 lol

3 or 4 chances to score is a conversion rate of 25-33%

Well that is shit...

Going to be horrible seeing Nugent stats against these clinical titans of the game...

No way those stats are true, Torres conversation rate is 0%!

But really now, while it was a golden opportunity, Courtois did a fantastic job in stopping that goal. If it was a lesser keeper, the story would be different. (Did you see how quickly he closed down?)

Nugent won't sleep easy with that miss for sure, but I trust he will definitely lift his game, ensuring the next time an opportunity like that happens, he will be there to strike upon it.

He's been waiting a long time for this, and considering the squad we have, I'm sure they'll be behind him, making sure he's got the confidence he needs. We, the fans, should get behind him, and spur him on.

Once he gets his first goal, that would be a huge monkey off his bank. I'm sure more goals will come. It's only 2 games into the season, let's not be hasty, alright?

Interesting to see if Nige plays him tonight, could be a good chance to get off the mark even if cup goals don't count, but then another blank could heap more pressure on him.

He's had barren spells before though and always come back.

Oh come on Cap lol defend him by all means but don't talk utter drivel he's clearly looked directly at the Linesman, the whole reason he pulled out to the right in the first place was because he knew there was space there!

Probably already been mentioned but I've just realised that our start this time is almost identical to 2003/04. I remember then we were saying how well we had played in the first two games. Hopefully history won't repeat itself, I just fear we'll be unlucky Leicester playing good football but not picking up points. I am massively pessimistic about Leicester in general though...

Seriously watch it back, I think it is Oscar on his right, he has a little look both sides before receiving the ball and he is about a yard behind and a couple of yards to his right, he looks again after his first touch, by this point the Chelsea player has slowed down to appeal for offside. He could see the Keeper and the covering defender, he couldn't see if anyone was coming from his right, a quick look right he sees he is in the clear, slows and composes himself to slot it past Courtois.
