Guest Col city fan Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 But we are not always writing them off, we are criticizing there performance which we are entitled to do, we all know that you have to take the chances you get and Nugent didn't do that yesterday You keep stating the same thing mate. We know that taking chances at this level (at any level) is crucial. But don't overlook the importance of the number of chances made. It's very rare that strikers get one sniff at goal, all game, and bury it. Unless they are top strikers who only need that one opportunity. Nugent is not a top striker in this sense. The numbers of goals we score this season will be positively correlated with the numbers of chances, and good chances we make. Yesterday, we had one really. Against Chelsea that's to be expected. Against weaker opposition, we will make more and take more.
Matt Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 Sun dream team ratings Kasper, Morgan and Riyadh 7 Ulloa 5 Rest 6 Wes better than Liam ? our midfield invisible? At least the daily mail fella watched the game! So that's twice Mahrez has got a rating 7 or over, twice he's been the highest rated Leicester player, yet you can't select him in your dream team as he wasn't even in the list of players you could select. I really wanted him in my team aswell!

Because to stay up, we need to win games against those teams and just hope to nick a point here and there against the top sides
Harry - LCFC Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 I'm still unsure as to whether the 'depth' you talk about will be good enough? Next Sunday we play against Arsenal.. and many are suggesting this will be a home win. And, of course, it could be. But it will likely pitch King and Hammond against Ramsay, Wilshere, Sanchez and Cazorla (or a permutation of). However well they have done so far, that doesn't give me confidence, I'm afraid, that we will win this game. I'm in limbo with this at present. Both King and Hammond have done better than I thought they would. But will they perform consistently well at this level? How things stand now, if we lose RDL, we play Moore at right back, if we lose Konch, then Schlupp comes in at left back. It's all hypothetical but I wonder whether you (and others) will remain this confident if we only attain a couple of points from the first 6 games? IMO we are thin in depth of squad, numerically.. and I still am unsure regarding the quality we have at the club if our 'first team' remains blighted with injury. I guess time will tell but I believe we need additions and strong additions. I also believe we'll get some. I was speaking specifically about our CMs. People keep talking as if Hammond and King are our starters and asking who we have to cover them. The conclusion seems to be that GTF is our backup CM when that clearly isn't the case. Definitely agree with you about LB though, I think that should've been a priority from day one and I'll be concerned if we have Schlupp starting there for a run of games. If we don't pick up many points in the first six I won't be too disheartened. I didn't expect much anyway and with the players we have out I'd have expected even less.

I think he will, and if he doesn't I think Vardy will
ian_marshall Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 Our fans quickly run the risk of scapegoating David Nugent. We all know that he can score goals..he's been our top goal-scorer for the past two seasons. We also know that he can miss em.. and we've seen him spurn chances that other strikers may have taken. But it is about supply. If our strikers are provided with very few chances, its likely they will miss more than they take. Ulloa, for example, yesterday was praised for his work-rate and his tracking back. And rightly so. But Ulloa is, first and foremost, a striker and I can't recollect him having a chance yesterday? Scoring goals is a team effort, a team thing. In the same way as defending shouldn't only be left to the back five, neither should attacking only be about our strikers taking chances. If we want to see Nugent, Vardy, Wood and Ulloa scoring enough goals this season, they must be provided with chances. It's law of averages.. you give our strikers 5 chances, they'll take one or two. You limit them to 1 chance, they probably won't take it. Against the Arsenal, I want to see our side getting forward quickly and providing our forwards with enough quality supply. Then they'll take them. I take on board your point, and personally I'm a very big fan of David Nugent and think he gets a lot of unfair criticism on here. However, we have to accept that we are now in the Premier League and for all our efforts collectively as a team you may only be presented with one opportunity to score a goal. When you get that opportunity you have to take it. That's the harsh reality of this league I'm afraid. Unfortunately some players will make the grade and others won't. Hopefully Nugent can make the step up and that yesterday was just one of those days, as he thoroughly deserves the chance to demonstrate his capabilities.
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 Reading this forum, you'd think there were strikers that never miss chances
TheUltimateWinner Posted 24 August 2014 Author Posted 24 August 2014 Nugent was the better striker. Midfield were solid (until GTF came on, he's like a wall... immobile) Morgan & Moore certainly impressed. Konchesky looked great first half, near the end of the second he looked tired and got beaten a few times, but still a good performance for him. If we'd of kept our energy levels, we'd of gotten back into the game, but we looked exhausted.
Hack Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 Nugent's miss reminded me of McCormack's at Leeds last season, plenty of time, tried to place it but the keeper made a top save. It always looks worse when the player has time and space. He didn't need to look at the linesman however. To write him off after the miss as not good enough all season is ridiculous though. I don't think people are writing him off because of one miss. He just didn't seem assured against Chelsea. He needs to play with the speed and confidence he did last yeat. I say speed because you don't have the same time on the ball in this league compared to last season. He is more than capable striker who deserves to be in this League, but he does need to take those chances. I am a big fan of his, but he is not beyond criticism for a bad performance, and I thought he had a less than stellar game.
WardyisPukka Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 Thought Moore and Morgan had a another really solid game. Mahrez corners were woeful but his overall game wasn't too bad! Overall we more than matched them in the 1st half and for first 10 mins in the 2nd but hammond going off changed the rhythm of our play. Nugent's one on one from i was standing looked like courtois made himself massive - maybe he panicked a little bit Thing that struck me was their fans! they hardly sing for their team - actually didn't hear one song in unison from them whatsoever - the cheer for drogba when he came on was loud but apart from that was really quiet - can't be like that on european nights surely?
Dickov22 Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 But we are not always writing them off, we are criticizing there performance which we are entitled to do, we all know that you have to take the chances you get and Nugent didn't do that yesterday But some people are writing him off. I've seen comments such as 'he's not a premiership player' . That's a little different to 'he was poor yesterday' (which he was in my opinion)
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 We certainly did not let ourselves down. I think we now know that the speed of the game is more emphatic in the Premiership, and to have to be able to match it. With such a difficult start in the fixture list, we really should learn a great deal, which will stand us in great stead for the remainder of the season. The great, "learning curve"
Leicesterpool Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 Well never expected to win anyway but we made a good count of ourselves. First half we were the better team, it's just second half Chelsea came out a different team and they looked stronger and dangerous and deserved winners. Atmopshere once again was first class from us be proud everyone OMG Nugent's miss With Hammond out now we've certainly got to make a signing soon. Did anyone see Scott Parker's goal for Fulham yesterday, he's one we've got to look at.

The Guvnor Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 Just responding to a few points in general.one of the areas we definitely can improve is corner taking. Surely one of the reasons we bought Ulloa was for his aerial threat yet we failed most of the time to beat the first defender, Maybe the reason Nuge looked at the linesman for the offside was he couldn't believe how much time and space he had, great save from Courtois but should have buried that chance.Hammond and King have put in two great performances and there is probably more to come from Dean as he still doesn't appear 100% match fit.
CosbehFox Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 With Hammond out now we've certainly got to make a signing soon. Did anyone see Scott Parker's goal for Fulham yesterday, he's one we've got to look at. Scored a goal but captained a team to one of the worst showing's of the weekend.
Guest Col city fan Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 Is someone seriously considering Parker for City? Christ.. He's captain of a side that are in complete disarray and he's past it. The goal he got yesterday doesn't gloss over the fact that the Derby midfield were a knife through butter.

dedlock Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 QPR'.s result at Spurs puts our result yesterday into context.
Leicesterpool Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 Think Nugent is lacking confidence. Think he was hoping he was offside in a way to absolve responsibility. It was an excellent save and he won't be up against that calibre of 'keeper every week, but think most PL strikers would expect to put that away. I agree with that, as they said on Match Of The Day last night in the championship he would have buried that easily. It's all about the first goal, if can get one it'll be massive boost for him
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 I agree with that, as they said on Match Of The Day last night in the championship he would have buried that easily. It's all about the first goal, if can get one it'll be massive boost for him They didn't say that, they mentioned that he'd more than likely fashion another chance in the same game at Championship level and highlighted the importance of making the most of opportunities in the top tier.
fuchsntf Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 Not saying drop him.... but Nugent looking at the linesman was pathetic, from a 12yr+ professional, never a reason to look, whistle counts, plus you show uncertainty, as soon as he got the ball at this or 1st division, you should know what your going to do, plus a nano second of thought in dragging 1st to his right, would of stopped the charge of the goalkeeper. A goalkeeper practices various situations while training, How often do you think Nugent practices, and practices seriously, 1 on 1 situations, every training session. It wont guarrantee anything but it helps. I hope he didnt sleep well last night, and practiced in his head his failures and what to do next time.A professional should learn. It wasnt him missing his chance, but taking seconds looking at the linesman that was poor.
Master Fox Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 I still can't come to terms with Nugent's miss.
