Chelsea fan in peace here.  Quite a few of you came round our forums before the match, top bunch you are.

You were very impressive.  I'd say the best performance I've seen from a promoted side at the Bridge in years.  If not for some poor finishing, and Courtois being some kind of human octopus, you could have got something.  You at least deserved a goal and a nervous finish for us.  Sure others have managed results, but usually with Spartanesque park the bus defending reminiscent of what we do to Barcelona.  You should be proud of your team today, and you belong in this league.  In fact I think you'll finish in the upper half of the table considering some of the dross you're competing with.  Play like that against Arsenal and you'll get a result, they can't handle teams disrupting their rhythm like we can.  That's how we batter them!

Best of luck with your season and welcome to the league.  Fully confident you're here to stay.

Well done City, Chelsea will beat  'better' teams by more then two goals at home this season.

Nothing to fear, hold your heads up high boys!

GTF coming on in centre mid at Stamford Bridge couldn't scream 'WE NEED MORE DEPTH IN THE SQUAD' anymore if it tried

tbf if you took 3 of the best 4 cms from any squad in the league they'd be struggling. we've got decent enough strength in depth, hence king and hammond being our better players 2 games in a row despite being 3rd and 4th choice, take another cm and put him on the injury list and obviously we look stretched.

Who'd want to come in of any quality to be our fifth choice central midfielder just in case it all goes wrong and we get 3 injuries in the same position? Nobody any good.

I can't tell you how proud I am of that performance by the boys.  Most PL teams and their fans going to the Bridge would be very happy with that being  their performance.  Our first half was just outstanding. We didn't allow Chelsea to boss the game at all and frankly I thought we had the better of the first half.

The second half Chelsea changed tactics and in particular had their full backs pushing up much more.  Ivanovic was superb and I consider his performance in the second half the difference between the 2 teams.

Big Wes 2 weeks in a row has controlled two of the most heralded and expensive strikers  in the League.  Our back 5 are as good as any mid tier PL team. I don't see us going down if that is the sort of performance we can put up week in and week out.

We must be more clinical up front.  i got the sense from watching NP's interview he was disappointed with Nugent's lack of finishing.  Look for Vardy or even Wood starting ahead of him.  Nuge has to be more aggressive in front of goal or he will be on the bench soon.  Especially if we are still looking for another striker.

Special mention to King, Hammond and Konchesky.  3 guys most on this forum thought were crap.  which shows exactly why fans are not great guides to players real value, skill or quality.  I will take NP's decisions without question over anyone on this forum.

To all fans please don't write off any player. you don't have the knowledge and skill to do that.  By all means express your views on any performance, but to say someone is not good enough etc etc, you make yourself look like a fool not the player you are criticising.

With regard to us being a championship team.  Let me say this team was so far and away the best team in the championship last year winning it in a canter we were always a Premier league team in waiting.  Even our second choice midfield showed it is up to playing with the real big boys.

We definitely need to strengthen our team.  With doubt over Hammond, James and Drinky, we need at least 1 if not 2 midfielders.  I think we will be very active in the last week of the window.

I think with permanents and loans we will bring in no less than 4 players.

LCFC  Well done.

People keep calling for depth, but we already have depth. It's just been temporarily (very temporarily) wiped out through some pretty extreme misfortune.

If GTF was one of our backup options for CM then yeah fair enough but he isn't. Get players back fit and we're fine again. No need to panic buy because we're struggling for men for a few games.

It's incredible how we played a squad of players today that would have been questioned by a lot of people last year in the championship (Konchesky at left back? King and Hammond in midfield? Schlupp as a winger? No Vardy?) and still looked impressive against the best team in the league

In the cold light of Sunday morning, still think a decent result considering the side we put out was certainly not our strongest and will be wildly different from the team in 5 weeks time.

A quick thought also... on 2, maybe even 3 occasions,

Chelsea were on the floor with the ball and we stood and "sort of" tackled them, but in the end they got up with the ball, we need to really put the boot in on these occasions and let them know they can fvck around with it like that.

Probably scared of the Chelski swallow dive. Funny when the commentator remarked on Konchesky staying on his feet after one tackle, insinuating a Chelsea player would have been rolling around on the floor.

I thought some of Hammond's tackling was top notch. Saw him play last year against Stoke where he looked slow and negative. Can't believe it's the same player to be honest... a massive improvement.

My take on reflection is - good first half with a couple of decent chances then got bullied in the 2nd half but never gave in and Nuge had 2 very getable chances.

2 players frustrated the hell out of me last night:

Schlupp - can't seem to dribble past his opponent then gets caught too often not knowing what to do - seems to have no lateral instinctive decision making?

Mahrez - looks silky but tries to do too much too often instead of looking for a pass or on a few occasions just bloody shooting. We know he has a quality finish and he needs to fire off more shots IMO. Also someone on the Coaching Staff needs to show him how to take a corner FFS and also teach rest of the squad to whip in more dangerous crosses from outside. We wasted a good deal of opportunity last night re our corners and wide crosses.

fuck chasing Cambiasso imo if he really wanted to come here he'd have signed already fuck him off a focus on quality players who want to come and play for this club, we need them in.

agree totally, were obviously his very last choice and Nige shouldn't waste his energies on him anymore!

Just back, thought the lads all played really well. Chelsea were made to look nothing special and our shape in the first hour was much better than theirs.

Hammond and Wes were excellent, followed by King, Moore, Kasper and Konch.

Ulloa and Nugent worked tirelessly and from where I was standing (front row in line with the goal kick line) Nugent clearly lost full control of the ball at the vital moment and was forced to shoot, when he should have been going around the keeper. I was more disappointed with the earlier chance the keeper saved with his foot.

My only real frustration was the lack of quality in our crossing first half and Schlupp's contribution. He chooses the wrong option too often and is often caught out of position. I know he is young and learning, but felt he was our weakest player in the first hour.

Obviously once they scored we were up against it and the last half hour was basically all Chelsea.

Plenty of reason for optimism, we should all be very proud of the team.

when did we stop using the phrase. 6 yard box? lol

I think we played well again yesterday.

kasper is saving the 2nd one if it doesn't nick wes.

have to say I'm impressed with morgan. thought he may struggle to make the step up. him and moore excellent again.

konch, hammond and king are all playing well. lots of positives again.

but we will need to take chances like nugents.

but if he saves finishing them for wba, villa, palace etc. I'll live with that.

Oh I take it back what I said earlier. I thought Nugent was looking around for support for someone to pass to but as MOTD showed he was looking at linesman to see if offside. Pretty stupid when you are clean through, don't stop until you hear the whistle. That split second look to the linesman probably cost him the chance to see how fast Courtois was rushing out and gave him last chance to react!

Play to the whistle Nuge! Basics!

Yep why on earth was he looking at the linesman - agree with everyone else Nugent & Mahrez wasted chances - if Nugent opens the scoring its a totally different game!.

We could of got 3 points yesterday!

3 points next sunday!

Nugent CANNOT start against Arsenal for me, or if he does, bring Chris Wood on at Half Time. You cant waste opportunities like those two, and i cant help thinking that wood would of scored those...

Agreed. Schlupp is just Dyer mk2 really, all pace and no footballing brain. Doesn't look interested and lacks the confidence to go past players.

You didn't notice the superb pass to start the attack where Nugent had his chance then? Lovely ball.

And I see him coast past many players.

Granted, I don't think Schlupp has the best footballing brain. His decision making isn't always the best. But I don't think it's any coincidence that both our opponents so far appear to have set up to exploit our right side, not our left.

The customary Nugent bashing has started again I see. Out of interest, how did Ulloa play yesterday? I didn't see him have or make many chances?

no he didn't... But that couldn't of changed what we got from the game, i do like Nugent, but he seriously has to bury those at this level

'You have to be there to score em'....As far as I saw, our best chances fell to Nugent. For me, that's no surprise. It's so difficult to confidently slot away chances when they are few and far between. And it's a shame he didn't take it. It looks like he thought he may have been offside?

But Nugent remains a crucial player in this team and will score goals if given enough supply.

IMO.

Col,  I am not one to bag any player .  But I will critique a performance.  Yesterdays game from David was poor for a quality striker.  He didn't play with confidence.  Worked hard no doubt, but he of the 2 up front had the shots and he fluffed them.  Ulloa played really well tracking back and defending really well when needed.  He held up the ball well and showed very good touch with the ball at his feet.  This is not Nugent bashing, he did not have good game in front of goal.  He is better than what he produced and I would say in the post match interview Nige referred to the lack of quality in front of goal.

He looked at the linesman before his shot, which probably gave Courtois time to come out. But then i think Vardy could score more goals than Nugent, Chris Wood, he does need to work on his finishing or he will get benched before Vardy or Wood, because tbh i see them as a better option

The problem with the Cambiasso signing isn't the player, it's the amount of agents that have crawled out of the woodwork and no-one is sure who represents who. It's just taking time to cut through all the crap. Apparently the guy who is believed to be his actual agent was in London yesterday
