If this comes off, this will be a great bit of business by Nigel and his team. Had the opportunity of watching him a couple of times in the youth cup and he's a superb prospect. Definitely one for the future but I can see him joining up with the first team rather than the development squad! Like I say he's one of the most highly rated young players within the game at the moment and hopefully we'll be able to benefit by Man Utd trying to buy themselves back into the Champions League rather than trusting in their youth squad and bringing players through!

Be funny if our united youth team collection put one over on the full team soon!

Anyone have any idea of what sort of a fee we're looking at?

In this market... £19m

Bargain :D

I reckon his fee may give a little indication as to how we're going to use him this season... or it could not.

Manchester United set to reward attacker with contract after impressive season

By Sam Peoples at 6:01 pm 01/05/2014

Tom Lawrence is set to be offered a new contract byManchester United after returning to the club following the expiration of a three month loan spell at Yeovil Town.

The 20-year-old enjoyed two successful loan spells at Carlisle United and Yeovil this season and has done enough to earn himself a new contract offer.

Yevoil boss Gary Johnson told the Western Gazette how impressed he has been with Lawrence this season and thanked him for his time on loan there.

“Tom is about to be offered a new contract at Manchester United, he’s one that Manchester United want to look at, but he won’t be involved on Saturday,” he said.

“He’s done great for us, a lot of people have thought he’s done well and Ryan Giggs wants to see him up there. They want him around the first team at the moment.

“We have done our job, brought them in, they have done well for us, we have given them back like the surrogate mother and they thank us for looking after him.

“He has progressed and there are a few things he needs to improve on to play in the Premier League and that’s because he’s young and inexperienced.

“He’s got a mentality to win football matches, he’s got Premier League athleticism and Premier League fitness.

“He’s a naturally fit lad that likes to run at defenders and want to do it for 90 minutes if he’s got the ball at his feet.”

A fellow Welshman, Ryan Giggs wants to keep an eye on Lawrence and he isn’t the only one who has been keeping a close eye on him.

Reserves boss Warren Joyce spoke about Lawrence last week to ManUtd.com and was effusive in his praise for how much he has progressed this season.

“Tom has been a massive success,” Joyce said.

“He started pre-season exceptionally well but there were players who needed to be assessed from above who were older than him.

“So he found opportunities difficult in the early part of the campaign despite probably being one of the best, if not the best, player in pre-season. Yet he kept his head up in training, even if I felt he didn’t do as well as he had done before when coming on as a substitute.

“His training was really good, though, so we thought we’d get him out on loan to allow him an opportunity to profile himself. He did very well at Carlisle, scoring some outstanding goals and showing a good work rate. It has been another step up again at Yeovil and they’ve been delighted with him.

“Following the bit of exposure, he nearly made the full Wales squad and was possibly the best player for the Under-21s instead in their last game. He’s had two really successful loan spells and has matured a lot over the course of the season.

“Everybody has got to learn different things. It can be just as much about maturing as a person as improving your first touch. It’s just another skill you need in terms of having the qualities of a player to progress and become a footballer.”

If he's 20 he really needs to be pushing for a first team spot soon.

If he can't make an impact at that age then I'm not sure why we would be signing him.

I expect to see him on the bench regularly within a few months.

Huws? He's got the true marks of a good midfielder, good touch and great composure. Always looks like he has time on the ball.

I like him.

Seems like Wigan have him Rich

Can't believe the lack of pages on this one. This lad could be the best bit of business we have done for years assuming it goes through! Fantastic prospect
