Carl the Llama Posted 24 September 2014 Posted 24 September 2014 But how many has he got in his last 2-3 seasons? Yes he was a world beater back then, compared in the same breath as Messi and Ronaldo. But now so much has changed. He is just not the 'special' player he used to be, for me he is a slightly above average Premier League player and nothing more now. He scored all those goals agreed, but he was playing for Manchester United. A side who were winning the title more often than not and naturally scoring tonnes of goals and creating tonnes of chances for Wayne Rooney. There comes a point when his reputation alone because of those few absolutely exceptional seasons when there has been just as many average/poor seasons coupled with shit performances for England and his behaviour off the field to negotiate higher wages has to come to a head. His reward for this? Being made England captain. He scored a hat trick on his debut for United at Fenerbache, he scored that stunning goal against Newcastle, he scored that bicycle kick against Man City and many many more goals and assists. Special goals. But I feel he is going stale now and he won't get dropped for England for even a game now he has been made captain, despite a good few years of dross internationally. Why don't you find out before using it as a stick to beat him with?  For the record: 11/12: 27 goals, 7 assists, 34 games - a goal every game 12/13: 12 goals, 10 assists, 27 games - a goal every 1.23 games 13/14: 17 goals, 12 assists, 29 games - a goal every game
SandstormFox Posted 24 September 2014 Posted 24 September 2014 He is a good player, and scored 17 goals last season, which isnt incredible, but is still decent player who i would rate at about £13M
65RosesFox Posted 24 September 2014 Posted 24 September 2014 rooney was comfortably the worst player on the pitch bar uniteds defence. he was woeful.   rubbish...  totally agree. after watching the game back he seemed to be involved in quite a lot of what Utd produced. He set up Di Maria with a great through ball for his sublime goal. He put the grea ball in to Falcao who hit the bar. he was the only running back with any urgency and breaking a sweat to try and get back for Vardy's goal where the likes of Smalling who came on as a sub were strolling. i'm not sayin he was class, but he doens't deserve all the slating he is getting, there were far worse players in the Utd team on Sunday.  everyone seems to have jumped on the 'we hate rooney' band wagon and slate him for everything. his stats are impressive for the last few seasons, both with his assists and goals. and personally i think he is wasted as a number 10, and he should play up front with one of falcoa or RVP.  post match everyone is talking about how useless Rooney was and nobody has mentioned RVP who after his goal did next to nothing. if i was a Utd fan my concern would be with him and not Rooney.  He is a good player, and scored 17 goals last season, which isnt incredible, but is still decent player who i would rate at about £13M  he was joint fourth top goalscorer last season so i'd say it was pretty decent. the only "incredible" goal return last season was Suarez.  if rooney is worth only £13m then what do you value our players at?

Dan Posted 24 September 2014 Posted 24 September 2014 I'm a big Rooney fan. Think the comments on him being overrated just come from the fact people actually want him to fail because they don't like him. Hardly anyone gets behind our national side. The England "fans" these days don't deserve anything more than a shit national side because you are all shit yourselves. You just need to look at his goalscoring record to see how great he is. One question, if Juan Mata played against us and set up a goal like Rooney did, and played exactly the same as Rooney, would there be this thread attacking him? Â If Mata had spent the whole game screaming at the ref, the last few years throwing his toys out of the pram every now and then asking for a new deal and threatening to leave, showing as little desire for his country as he does for his club (he does not play with the same heart for England, not a single chance) then I think people would be quicker to jump on him too. Rooney wasn't even that bad, I just don't think he's nearly as good as he's made out to be and he's a dickhead at the same time. Â He's one of the luckiest players on the planet for me. Things always seem to fall in his favour when they really shouldn't. Â Our national side is a wreck from top to bottom due to the FA anyway. It's a soulless team ran by soulless people in a soulless ground.
ScouseFox Posted 24 September 2014 Posted 24 September 2014 nah not having that he wasn't shit. he was diabolical. like i said at the top of this thread i have been one of the main rooney is actual good voices in general sport for years but the last 6 months or show he's not even really showing that he can be world class, let alone actually being any good.  sunday was summed up by his first and last involvements. first thing he did was play a 5 yard pass straight out of play. then when his team lost the plot all he did was moan. moan at his team, moan at the ref, moan at our team. inspiring.Â
Rocky Dennis Posted 24 September 2014 Posted 24 September 2014 A complete arsehole and phenomenally over rated footballer, if he's the best English player we're doomed I tells ya.
Stadt Posted 24 September 2014 Posted 24 September 2014 Rooney's issue is complacency, he hasn't got anything to do or anything to prove anymore.
Bayfox Posted 24 September 2014 Posted 24 September 2014 rooney was comfortably the worst player on the pitch bar uniteds defence. he was woeful. I think rvp ran him close. Falcao and di maria class the other 2 bang average.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 24 September 2014 Posted 24 September 2014 Makes me chuckle when the World Cup/Euro Champs are on because Pepsi will bring out an advert of footballers - including Rooney - showcasing their talent. My gripe is that he is playing footie on this advert with top world class players - something which he most definitely isn't

Koke Posted 25 September 2014 Posted 25 September 2014 Rooney is going to become Man Utd's all time greatest scorer. He has consistently performed for Man Utd domestically and in Europe. In his United career thus far he has 235 goals in 523 games. Name me a current English striker in the top flight with this record. Thats right, you cant.  Look at when Jamie Vardy made it 4-3. Juan Mata lost the ball (but he gets a free pass, no criticism), but Rooney is the only attacking player who chased back to defend, and by the time Vardy scored Rooney was the closest outfield Man Ud player to him.  Not only is he a hardworker, but he is also a team player. He's willingly played out of position numerous times to accommodate for Ronaldo, Tevez, Berbatov, van Nistelrooy, van Persie etc.  I dont get the Rooney hate. Rooney and Shearer the two best strikers England have produced since Lineker. And yet people like to slag him off. Shearer was a ****, but he was quality. Call Rooney what you like but he is not shit nor is he overrated. Have a word with yourselves.Â

fuchsntf Posted 25 September 2014 Posted 25 September 2014 Drogba, Henry, Van NistelrooySO .!! 3 top players, another 50 doesnt make him not in the Top bracket of English players. Hes done it ,he has reached the hights of his career, hes left many players in his wake, plus he may still have another 5 years top flight football left. Shame some posters must get on his case on football matters and achievements, even his personal life hasnt ran havoc or wild, amusing snippets caught in the press, so what.!! Over aggressive on the field, moans too much, name me a player from top 4 teams around europe that hasnt, even some from the lower echolons, believe they know better than the ref....a footballer's virus. Fans who make mistakes in their own life everyday, love to use their saturdays to cry out at refs, informing everyone they think he is a w##nker.Natural act of many a fan when not able to entice a lover into their life.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 25 September 2014 Posted 25 September 2014 Don't care what he's done, what he's yet to do, what his favourite colour is, how much he's paid to make his wife look presentable or how many grannies he's paid to shag. He can fvck off.

Freesolo Posted 25 September 2014 Posted 25 September 2014 Rooney in his prime is a top player but he has never and will never be a Elite Player like a Ronaldo, Messi, Zidane, xavi, Scholes etc

fuchsntf Posted 25 September 2014 Posted 25 September 2014 Don't see messi scream at the ref or kaka in his prime Seen Messi, chase a ref down over a foul, seen Kaka shout at teammates, but lets say they hadnt, still doesnt stop Rooney being a top drawer player. Plus both have not produced themselves at World cups, but I wouldnt dream of not classing them as W.class. If Messi doesnt win a W.cup does that make him a worse player, or further down the rankings has Maradona ?? kaka has also not won the top trophy while playing in the team, so are his achievemants degraded..
