Wayne Rooney

Nothing but a good striker overcoached into something he never was going to be

That's probably the most insightful thing I've ever seen you say on here. lol

Although you're correct I don't think the attitude, the money, the celebrity life style, smoking, and believing his own hype has done him any favors. And he does seem to be getting old before his time.

Over-rated twat. Absolute embarrassment that some actually think he's a world class player.

Well it's not really an embarassment. lol

Rooney is very average i think, certainly in comparison to other big names in the United team let alone hum being World Class.

Actually think he has been a slow decline for years now,  clearly talented but never improved in ten years i would say

Totally agree with your comments above!!

When I look at Man Utd's midfield and strikers they have an embarrassment of riches.  If City had the chance of getting a Mata, Di Maria or Falcao I'd jump out of my seat and expect NP to take them in a heartbeat.  But I wouldn't want to see Wayne Rooney in a City shirt.  His talents are appreciated may the England any many PL managers, but I'd rather see Ulloa and Vardy up front for us.  And for me, that put's his talents into perspective.

I don't think anybody would say he has fulfilled his early promise, but that doesn't mean he isn't still a decent enough player. He is nothing if not committed, he was the closest man utd player to Vardy as he went through for our fourth despite starting the chase from half way inside our half, and he obviously cares a lot even if the way he expresses it is a bit ugly. And you can't really blame him for being so ugly.

Coleen is fit though.

having had 2 kids, she's got nice tatts.

Suppose being on holiday most the year helps!

Really was garbage. You can see why England struggle these days, the gap between some of our international players and players that are plying their trade in the championship isnt even big any more. Where have all the Beckhams and Owens gone

LVG has said he's untouchable, very poor management IMO

Quite right right untouchable . They have got wind of all those s.t.d's he's caught from those Grannies he's been grinding. Would you get in the bath with him ?

Completely understand why people take against him for the stuff he's got up to off the pitch. Can't stand how every couple of years he throws his toys out of the pram and threatens to leave until a new contract with a hefty pay rise appears on the table in front of him. Soon changes his mind.

On the pitch however, I disagree with most people in this thread. He's a quality player. Admittedly he's not lived up to the hype from the start of his career where many people thought he could be up there with the very best but he's still been a top player for the last decade and this is borne out by the stats:

- He's scored 218 goals in 446 games for United. An (almost) 1 in 2 record over 10 full seasons at the top level isn't bad.

- In 2009/10 he scored 34 from 44 games in all comps & in 2011/12 got 34 from 43.

- Never scored fewer than 16 goals in all comps in any full season he's played since being at United.

- He's made more assists (67) than any other player in the Premier League since 2006/07 which is as far as the stats go back here: http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/players/index.html?paramSearchType=BY_STAT&paramSeason=2014-2015

- Scored 41 times in 97 games for England, very similar record to Messi (42 in 93 for Argentina) & Ronaldo (50 in 115 for Portugal).

Now I'm not saying that he's not slightly overrated but he's had a great career and anyone who honestly thinks he's shit sets their bar pretty high! God knows what criteria you'd have to fulfil to be 'good'. Bergkamp only scored over 20 goals in a season once at Arsenal. What a sack of shit he was! As for Zola and Cantona's records, the utter gash English football fans had to put up with in the 90s...

On a different note I enjoyed seeing the ugly twat losing the plot yesterday as much as the next man

Very reasonable. :D

I actually really enjoyed the numerous tussles between Cambiasso and Rooney yesterday and I thought he was certainly one of their better performers on the day.

England captain, no, should've been Gary Cahill IMO. He'll still end up being England's all time leading goalscorer though.

I rate him. However I do not think he is suitable to captain the England squad as I believe he doesn't perform well at international tournaments - bottling it perhaps? That is my opinion and I hope he proves me wrong in the future.

For United, I think he is a very good choice for captain. He works tirelessly and is very communicative. He is also versatile, and fairly intelligent with regards to reading the game.  He was absolutely furious as to how they threw away the lead at 3-3. He knew they were falling apart and he tried to stamp some authority.

Unfortunately the United team he is in is poor and yesterday they were tactically inept. How the hell did they continue to play a back four and a diamond against our 4-3-3? It was never going to work. I don't think LVG knows what to do. I would rather have Luke Shaw then Roja. The blame for yesterday lies solely with LVG.

Back to Rooney and in particular his work ethic, who was closest to Vardy when he put us 4-3 up? Rooney. Think about it how much ground he covered, he rad the situation and tried his hardest to get back. There were other players who were closer to the play, but Rooney was the one who tracked back.

He is a technically gifted player who can read the game and work tirelessly for his team. Yes he gets worked up, but he shows passion, and it's the type of player I would love here.

Oh and yes he was in the referees ear, but you would expect one or two city players to have done the same if the tables were turned.

Can't agree with that.

I was watching Rooney quite a bit yesterday and his general harassment of the ref was pretty much throughout the game. He rarely left him alone, constantly questioning decisions, niggling away.

Where Rooney is crap as a captain IMO is for two reasons. I think he's thick as.... Secondly, if his team are struggling, he gets worse. He gets more argumentative, we've seen him consistently lose his rag. Not the calming, controlled character I'd want as captain.

There are a few players who like to have a niggle at the ref. Unfortunately it's the modern game. Also it is a tactical thing, he might have been told to niggle at him. It's not unknown for coaching staff to tell players to have a 'niggle'.

I don't think calling him thick as is a reason for not letting him be captain. He is probably one of the most intelligent players on the pitch yesterday with regards to playing the game. Yes he comes across as being a bit stupid off the field. I have a very high IQ, but I don't rate myself as good as him when it comes to reading the game if you can see my point.

Anyway the argumentative thing, wasn't Dickov an annoying little shit? What about Savage?

I don't like him as a bloke, and I don't like how he was in the ref's ear all the time (but virtually everyone does that now).  However, I still think he's an excellent player and I admire his desire and will to win.  He showed more passion than all the other United players, and clearly hates losing.  Not defending him as a person, but putting a bit of perspective on it - in my humble opinion, he's not **** and he still has a massive desire to win matches and be proud of whichever team he plays for (United or England).
