Every party has morons on Twitter.

I agree, I'm just saying UKIP are by far the worst offenders.

I'd say Labour were in my personal experience.

Twitter seems to be a haven for morons anyway these days.

Channel 4 wouldn't have made it if nobody was going to watch it. Media outlets have very few agendas beyond viewing figures.

By Channel 4 standards yes, but that's basically no one.

We're discussing it on here though. People will flick over and watch five minutes of it and talk about it in the office tomorrow. And these docudramas are usually cheap and easy to make.

"Too many tweets makes a twat", as Cameron famously said..... Outrageous that he apologised for that, when it's the one good thing that he's said or done.

Is the difference that this time it's satirising a party you like?

I'm don't know which category this programme fits into as I've not watched it but I'm not sure you do either.

I read an article about 'what is in it' and apparently it portrays a ukip government forcefully deporting existing migrants (which they have said wouldn't happen) and showing clips of all the supposed 'gaffes'.

I won't be watching it and as mentioned above I don't see it having any affect as it is preaching to the converted.

I don't support Ukip in anyway and probably won't vote for them unless their manifesto is well fleshed out and coherant. I just think they are getting some really bad press for no genuine reason.

Also what do people think of Labours apprenticeship pledge?

I thought the 2 A level requirement thing was a complete nonsense. Apprenticeships are more suited to school leavers at age 16 surely?

People starting to come to their senses now as we get closer the the election. I'm still going for a Tory majority.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/david-cameron/11415687/Tories-open-four-point-lead-over-Labour.html

It's one poll and looks like an outlier. Two others have come out today with Labour in the lead and I imagine YouGov will do the same later based on their recent record. If anything the current trend has been for Labour's lead to increase slightly. This could be the beginning of a new trend but the evidence doesn't point that way at the minute. It's very unlikely that the Tories will win a majority. They need at least a 7 point lead for a majority of one. and a lead of that magnitude looks almost impossible for them.

I think we'll see the Tories gain a little on Labour as we approach the big day (although I expected it to happen before now and time is fast running out) and perhaps even end up with a narrow lead in vote share. But I still reckon Labour will end up as the largest party - although nowhere close to a majority - and enter into an arrangement, although not a full coalition, with the SNP. It would be a fascinating (and outrageous) outcome; the second largest party being put in government by a regional party.

It does look extremely unpredictable though. I think a majority is unlikely for either major party but by no means impossible. I suspect the Tories will eat back into the UKIP vote (which is overwhelmingly traditionally Tory up to about 15%) and Labour will eat back into the SNP vote. Whichever of the larger parties is more successful in doing so will end up the largest party.

This UKIP program is unbelievable. I've seen some smear in my time but this is off the scale, never in a million years could it be referred to as satire.

Surely the party can take legal action over this? You can't just be allowed to make things up about people and put it on tv.

You know the sort of people who have made this when a person holding a 'help for heroes' banner is referred to as 'far right'.

I'm still sat at the fence at the moment as I'm not blown away by any "party".

The Youth Allowance that Conservative party announced today made more sense than the Labour Party announced apprenticeship scheme. Its something I've been an advocate of for some time as some form of work is better non, than being perceived to be "scrounging" and on a "money train" having paid nothing into the tax system. I do understand the counter argument though that people will make about not enough time to find a job. Saying that, with an online world it's easier than it was 5 - 10 years ago.

Nick Clegg, for me has been harmed by his stint as Deputy PM. The coalition government has lead us out of a recession but I can't think of any significant Impact he has had within that time. I'm sure their us something!! I don't believe the Lib Dems will fare as well time around, as they were the "protest vote" last time.

UKIP I'm very much hum ho about and put most of what is said down to trying to gain attrition on current perceived issues. Im 50 / 50 on the EU involvement. If we walk away, what do we lose / gain? I'm yet to hear any compelling arguments either way. If anything they'll pick up the protest vote this time but that'll amount to very little / nothing.

Of the others, the Greens, Independents, BNP, Monster Raving Lonney .... I hear very little of what they say other than the extream stuff, therefore in my eyes, if I bought into what they said, I still wouldn't vote as its a frutile exercise.

What we need is an independent source of information highlighting everyone's polices!! ..... non of the propaganda stuff and trying to lead people up the garden path!!

I'll be amazed if it happens, pretty much need 40% of the vote and that isn't possible.

I'm with Matt on this. They might get close enough to form a coalition without the Lib Dems having to be their stooge again but an overall majority? Unlikely.

1000 people in that survey, wouldn't trust it tbh.

1000 people is fine with the right methodology, which ICM will have used. Sometimes the polls throw up odd results but statistically 19 out of 20 surveys polling 1000 people will be about right.

Caught a bit of the show last night. Like most Channel 4 stuff the concept was quite interesting but it was done in such a clichéd and clumsy way.

A UKIP General Election candidateicon1.png has agreed to pay £1,000 to charity after making false accusations against Harborough MP Sir Edward Garnier QC.

Clive Langley alleged in a tweet that the former Solicitor General and prominent libel lawyer had made an improper claim for a “very expensive desk”.

In a second tweet he alleged that Sir Edward may have made improper claims for staff expenses to the tune of £133,000

But Sir Edward said: “My office desk is not mine. It belongs to the House of Commons. The desk at homeicon1.png I inherited from my late mother-in-law. He said the staffing expenses had been authorised and could be seen on line.

He told Mr Langley in a letter: “Both allegations are false and calculated to sow suspicious about me in the minds of the publishees.”

Mr Garnier, who has been the Tory member for Harborough since 1992, said he was alertedicon1.png to the claims on Monday by the Labour candidate for Harborough Sundip Meghani.

Mr Garnier said “After receiving an emailicon1.png from Sundip Meghani, I wrote to Clive Langley and he has unreservedly withdrawn the allegation and apologised. He has also agreed to my suggestion to donate £1,000 to Loros.”

Sir Edward said: “Parliamentary expenses are open to scrutiny and Clive Langley has admitted making an expensive mistake.”

Mr Langley, who is standing for UKIP in the Harborough constituency, received Sir Edward’s letter on Wednesday. Shortly afterwards Mr Langley tweeted: “I unreservedly apologise to Edward Garnier for making false and defamatory allegations about his expenses claims.”

Mr Langley refused to discuss with the Leicester Mercury why he made the false allegations in the first place.

Apologising to Mr Garnier in an email he wrote: “What I did was wrong and I have learnt a hard (and expensive) lesson.”

Councillor Meghani said: “I received tweets from Mr Langley concerning Sir Edward’s expenses and I felt that it was only fair that Sir Edward was made aware of them.

“I believe that Parliamentary candidatesicon1.png should act with decorum. If they have evidence of wrong-doing they should report it to the appropriate authorities.”

Sir Edward, a Queen’s Counsel and an eminent libel lawyer, also sits as a Recorder in Crown Court.

He was Solicitor General from May 2010 to September 2012.

He was knighted after the reshuffle that ended his time as Solicitor General.

To be fair to Labour and the Lib Dems, seen quite a few of their mps and councillors tweeting just how ridiculous last night's program was as well as UKIP and Conservative people.

Wonder if they'll be doing one about the Greens? Imagine the fun you could have with the consquence of dismantling the arms forces.

More bad news for Labour, they've even lost Ant and Dec.

UKIP drama sparks 1,000 complaints to Ofcom and Channel 4

_81059809_ukipdrama.jpgActress Priyanga Burford plays UKIP's only Asian female MP in UKIP: The First 100 Days

Channel 4 docudrama UKIP: The First 100 Days has prompted more than 700 complaints to media watchdog Ofcom since its broadcast on Monday night.

The programme depicted rioting on the streets after UKIP win the general election, mixing archive footage with imagined scenes.

Channel 4, which has defended the programme, has also had 250 complaints.

Ofcom said: "We will assess these complaints before deciding whether to investigate or not."

UKIP party leader Nigel Farage is among those who have condemned the programme.

"Looks like 100 Days of UKIP may well have backfired on Channel 4. A biased, partisan depiction of the only party that Believes in Britain," wrote Mr Farage on Twitter.

Speaking on LBC Radio, UKIP MEP and parliamentary candidate Gerald Batten called the docudrama "a piece of bile and vitriol from our political opponents".

"Political debate is one thing, and having a debate where people can put another point of view, or even a factual documentary about a political party. But this wasn't that," said Mr Batten.

He continued: "[Channel 4] can just spout their views and don't actually have to go out and defend them in elections, which we do."

Channel 4 said "a lot of research" went into the film and that Mr Farage was invited to watch it before it was broadcast, and to do an interview, but he declined.

The First 100 Days featured actress Priyanga Burford as the party's only Asian woman MP, who is elected for Romford in an imagined landslide making Mr Farage Prime Minister.

She is left grappling with her conscience amid raids and protests over tough anti-immigration raids.

Channel 4 said the show was fully in compliance with the broadcasting code and its "obligations to be fair, accurate and duly impartial".

It added: "This rise of UKIP's electoral support is one of the biggest political phenomena in recent years and this is reflected in The First 100 Days, which used policies and statements made by the party and its members to create a fictional future where the party is in power."

Ofcom said all of the 731 complaints raised the same issue, describing the programme as an unfair portrayal of UKIP ahead of the election period.

Channel 4 has said "the election period set out in the Ofcom broadcasting code has not started".

The broadcaster added: "Channel 4 has a role to encourage debate and engage viewers in political issues.

"The schedule will include a broad range of programming in the build-up to the election including news and current affairs investigations, a party leader debate and a major new political drama on the formation of the coalition government."
