Guest MattP Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 Still not bothered really. He was actually dreadful second half of last season and rightly lost his place. Pace doesn't scare teams up here without ability, watch of video of us when we had Akinbiyi and Benjamin up front. Although that said, probably a better option than Schulpp.
Burmesefox Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 No, dyer wasn't and isn't good enough at this level.
Babylon Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 Why are we still talking about Dyer? He doesn't play for us any more. Let's just accept that fact, and get over it. Desperation. Up there with wanting kids thrown in like the lad who scored for England youth... we're about two games away from that!
Sampson Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 he wasn't dreadful second half of last season at all. He lost his place due to injury and then Mahrez was playing so well he couldn't get back in the side. I don't know if I'd take him back, but one thing is for sure - he would be a vastly superior option to Jeffrey Schlupp (or Vardy on the wing).
Rasmic123 Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 should we have let go a guy who isnt even good enough to get into watfords first team? Obviously yes and I have to say, it's pretty moronic some of the shit people are coming out with after the swansea game. Yeah it was bad but we're still 17th in the table which I'd be very happy with come the end of the season. Plus we've looked very capable against everton, arsenal, chelsea, man u and stoke. Then we have some lacklustre performances recently and all of a sudden our early season form is forgotten and now we're doomed. Lighten up people
deep blue Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 I wish we still had him as an option. Only problem with that is that the large number of options we have already seems to be giving us a problem; get the feeling that np doesn't now know his best team or formation or style, so an additional player would only add to his headache.
orangecity23 Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 Depends which Dyer that is? Nathan Dyer - Definitely Lloyd Dyer - Yes Bruce Dyer - No (retired?) Eric Dier - typo
Stuliasz Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 I was gutted when he left. He's undoubtedly a better left winger than Schlupp but he's not here and that was his choice so we move on. Think our best two wingers technically are Mahrez and Albrighton. I could be wrong but I don't think they have been on the pitch at the same time yet this season? Think this combination would be ideal as they can both easily switch sides, and both bring different attributes to the team. Schlupp brings very little to that position, Knockaert at present is a poor man's Mahrez, and Vardy is much better off up top in a front two. Really wish we'd keep things a bit simpler and make best use of what we've got rather than concentrating on the opposition so much.
Fox92 Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 You've got to have somekind of technical ability at this level. Dyer lacked this, and a footballing brain. There's no way pace alone would beat top defenders. He was frustrating and both his end product and decision making was questionable. Says it all when Nigel didn't go out his way to offer Dyer the deal he wanted. Compared to the more valuable players such as Morgan.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 Definitely would have him back. Was at his peak and we miss someone who will create a bit of excitement out of nothing and get the crowd going. He'd easily be playing on the left right now if still here.
RedSoxUK Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 A player who doesn't even get a game from the bench for Watford now? no - should have taken his one year contract and proved himself as a member of the squad. I liked Lloyd, great pace, a constant and consistent threat at goal in the final third, but he seemed to lack the skill and dynamic to be able to compete for a place in our first team after Mahrez pretty much blew the position apart. If he was here, I wouldn't want him anywhere near the starting 11, and he wouldn't be making the bench.
Monk Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 I think we have plenty of pace in the squad right now it's just a case of finding the best way to use it (hint: it doesn't involve playing Vardy on the left)
roger the dodger Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 Errrrrrrrrrrrrrr. No, no, no, and finally No. errrrrrrrr yes yes yes and finally yes
LAprice_ Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 Firstly, there's the question of whether or not he would impact our squad or simply be a sentimental signing. Personally, I believe he will have a positive impact on the squad. This is Schlupp's first season playing consistently as a left-winger and as for Nugent, Vardy and Ulloa, playing them out wide is wasteful. I'm not saying Dyer is the answer to our so-called problems but an experienced left-winger would be a welcome addition. As for those who believe he would be a sentimental signing, surely that has it's positives as well. Bringing back a familiar face may provide a morale boost across the whole club. There have been a few transfers in recent years which have raised eyebrows and made people question sentimentality. Chelsea re-signing Drogba, Arsenal bringing in Henry on loan, even Lambert going to Liverpool.
Dan Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 If we brought Dyer back we would come across as looking pathetically desperate. The ship has sailed. He had the option of staying here for a year and he was the one who turned it down in favour of joining a team who it happens he can't even break into, in the Championship. I'll always respect Dyer for what he did here but he turned down probably more first team games in the Premier League here for being more bit-part at Watford (though admittedly it would've been hard to call that at the time). He's the wrong side of 30 and we have a largely untested winger in Albrighton waiting for a run in the team. I would much rather get Albrighton playing than bring back Dyer.
Guest Col city fan Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 Im sorry, but this smacks of desperation and serves no purpose. I loved Lloyd, and was one of the ones continually defending him and emphasising the contribution he made. But he's gone. Unless he comes back (highly unlikely) we move on...
Dan Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 Depends which Dyer that is? The Dyer of the first half of the season... Yes.. The Dyer in the second half of last season... not in a million years as he was woeful. Short memories. Thought the same as this though he was unlucky as we happened to bring in a far better winger.

Charl91 Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 Fair play, I get your point I mean, as much as I'd like to believe Nige reads these boards and takes our advice.....
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 He wasn't getting in to our team last year and isn't getting in to Watfords this season. If he was here everyone would just be moaning at how out his depth he was.
