Strokes Posted 23 November 2014 Posted 23 November 2014 Having read a few posts and witnessed some differing opinions, I want to know what is important to the fans? We came up, playing high energy, fast countering, passing, attacking football. Would you rather play this way but be vulnerable and encounter heavy losses (potentially), or try to tactically match up to our opponents?
lgfualol Posted 23 November 2014 Posted 23 November 2014 I'd take a Chelsea performance over a West Brom/Newcastle performance.

Guest Col city fan Posted 23 November 2014 Posted 23 November 2014 I think if we are going down, we go down fighting. Please no more performances like Swansea..possibly one of the most boring games of football I've seen us play for ages.
lgfualol Posted 23 November 2014 Posted 23 November 2014 what about Chelsea over say stoke? good point I'm outta here
bovril Posted 23 November 2014 Posted 23 November 2014 I just want us to stay up this season and then worry about the quality of football in the next years. I think newly promoted teams are best playing to their strengths.
Strokes Posted 23 November 2014 Author Posted 23 November 2014 You can do both.Yeah sorry I didn't quite explain what I meant, I want to know if peopl, prefer the philosophy over the results. You can have both, you can have neither but which one is the most important?
ScouseFox Posted 23 November 2014 Posted 23 November 2014 obviously winning is what it's about. nobody cares if you play quite well but lose. the thing people are most upset about is that for the past 6 weeks (until yday) we were playing the painfully boring shut up shop style and still losing. some people might prefer one, some might prefer the other, everyone would be bloody delighted with both but to neither look like playing well or take any points is just stab yourself in the balls territory.

bovril Posted 23 November 2014 Posted 23 November 2014 There was so much pride with the way we went up last year, I think some don't want to let go of that. Perhaps. Maybe it was too easy last year. Delusions of grandeur? We were all blinded a bit by optimism, thinking back to some of the threads about Drinkwater and Vardy tearing the league a new one is depressing. Honestly I think we fvcked up a bit in the summer, should have been cannier in the transfer market. Good news is we're not too far behind (yet) and we have money.
Strokes Posted 23 November 2014 Author Posted 23 November 2014 I don't think things are going that bad, personally. I just think people have forgotten what it is like at the this end of the table.
MGLCFC Posted 23 November 2014 Posted 23 November 2014 Whilst optimistic at the end of last season, the reality is that we are one of 6 or 7 weak teams. I'd have loved this season to have been one where we felt comfortable in the Prem, but the reality is we have a group of honest players who are finding it difficult to adjust to this level. Some are clearly not Premiership standard, others are holding their own, whilst a few have the potential to develop. The bottom line is that we will be in a relegation battle, but I do believe we are capable of staying up, even though it may be 17th.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 23 November 2014 Posted 23 November 2014 I don't think things are going that bad, personally. I just think people have forgotten what it is like at the this end of the table. One of the factors I am frustrated with, is that Pearson appears to have learnt nothing about the Premiership, other than the fact that we get beaten regularly. To lose is one thing, but to lose badly, as we have been, is a horse of a different colour.

Yes we have had some games where we have looked weak up top but we haven't been thumped.
Webbo Posted 23 November 2014 Posted 23 November 2014 I just want us to win enough games to stay up, I don't care how we do it.
Bayfox Posted 23 November 2014 Posted 23 November 2014 right now having seen what we have offered this season I'd take 442 having a go and losing 5-4 3-2 or the occasional 4 or 5 nil. than something akin to the Southampton performance where you just knew we wouldn't hold out for the whole 90 mins. yesterday was a million ok maybe only a hundred miles better than the last few weeks.
Dan Posted 23 November 2014 Posted 23 November 2014 Whatever it takes to win - the thing is I don't believe that you automatically sit back and pray for a 1-0 by doing this. If we do that, we will lose more often than we win. I don't think it's our style to sit back and steal a victory. It happened at Stoke but I don't believe that was a win typical of us. I want teams to fear coming here again. No-one is telling me after that Man Utd game that they relished coming here. Attacking football for me. Saturday was a step in the right direction. On another day we win that 2-0.
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 23 November 2014 Posted 23 November 2014 I'd take a scrappy 1-0 win every week.
Guest Col city fan Posted 23 November 2014 Posted 23 November 2014 Where's Thracian? Its a 'philosophy' thread...
The Doctor Posted 23 November 2014 Posted 23 November 2014 what about Chelsea over say stoke? I would argue that the performance we put in against Chelsea would have seen us beat most teams in the league. Chelsea are just a different gravy all together though.
jamesmilner Posted 23 November 2014 Posted 23 November 2014 winning is what any true fan wants and there's no argument to have when it happens . I don't like any kind of losing whatsoever. anyone who doesn't detest a loss is a fool .
Raw Dykes Posted 23 November 2014 Posted 23 November 2014 One of the factors I am frustrated with, is that Pearson appears to have learnt nothing about the Premiership, other than the fact that we get beaten regularly. To lose is one thing, but to lose badly, as we have been, is a horse of a different colour. Lose badly? We haven't been losing badly. We were outclassed against Swansea, but the scoreline doesn't reflect that. It's frustrating to see the team struggle after such an impressive start. We all know how well this team can play, so I don't buy all this rubbish people keep saying about not doing enough in the transfer market. Remember how we cruised to the title last season? Which manager would have ripped that team apart? You'd have to be clinically insane to want to rebuild that team. All it wanted was a tweak here and there, a bit more strength in depth, and that's exactly what happened. The first five performances this season had everyone saying we'd easily survive, so I really don't think this bad run has anything to do with personnel. I'm sure the problem is confidence, almost certainly due to a more negative approach and too much chopping and changing. Obviously, NP and almost the entire squad have little to no experience at this level, so the problems with our form may well improve as they learn more. Although we weren't great yesterday, I do think it was a much improved showing over recent weeks, and there were definitely spells where we looked like the side that started the season so well. Mahrez has to start when available. I hope the scouts can dig up a couple more gems like him.
Donut Posted 24 November 2014 Posted 24 November 2014 Id probably say the best all round team performance of the season was the 1-1 vs Arsenal. It was us being direct, but in a good way, by getting the ball forward quickly and getting bodies around the likes of Vardy when he came on, and Ulloa. The defensive shape was as good as ive seen, certanly this season. From the outset it looked like loose marking and standing off, but it wasnt allowing any space in behind us as all and we had Arsenal playing in front of us square, square, square all day. I know its not a vintage Arsenal side were watching this season, but when in the mood they can still cut a team open at will. We pressed the ball intelligently as well, especially in the second half. We didnt look to press the back 4 and win the ball high up the pitch, but got involved in the midfield and opened the opportunity for quick counter attacks in the second half by utilising pace. We were bossed in terms of possession, but we had meaningful possession in the 2nd half and had easily the best chances. We also clearly identified weaknesses in their side, and exploited them ruthlessly, the standouts for me being exposing Monreal and Chambers in as many one on one situations as possible. Im sure we all remember Ulloa making Chambers look rather silly in the box, but sadly shooting wide. Im also still an advocate of the 4-4-1-1 and Nugent played the link role/ deep lying forward however you want to term it role well. When he dropped deep, It posed a question as to whether an Arsenal defender or deep midfielder followed him, thus opening space up ahead of him for someone else, or whether he moved forward himself to occupy one of the Arsenal defenders. He put a real shift in too. If there was someone who could play the Nugent role THAT DAY, (possibly Powell) who could also provide more quality in finishing who could perhaps drag a centreback away to follow him, I think that formation would reap big success for us. Thats how i personally saw that game, others may disagree, but i think potentially we could get plenty of joy from an out and out striker and a withdrawn striker
