Arriba Los Zorros Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 I normally think we are better going forward, and would usually advocate this approcah. HOWEVER Villa are a special case. We can't let Villa play like they are away from home, defending and breaking at pace, cos they will rip through us. We need to be cagey here, try to make them pass through us, let their fans get frustrated at their lack of guile and then take advantage.
kingfox Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 Hamer De Laet - Moore - Wasilewski - Schlupp Cambiasso Albrighton - James - King - Mahrez Ulloa
Gazza M Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 Well at last Nigel has been forced to change the defence with Wes Morgan out suspended. I don't understand how he can keep prasising them after the Liverpool game. I think it must be worth completely shaking it up, with some fresh legs in. GK Hamer DL Schlupp DC Moore DC Upson (if fit) DR: Simpson MC: King MC: Drinkwater AMC: Powell AML: Knockaert AMR: Marhez SC: Vardy Subs: Kasper, Waz (Upson), Cambiasso, James, Ulloa, Albrighton, Nugent
jmono84 Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 The main problem is us controlling the middle of the pitch. Last nights game our or their CB's would win a header and almost every time it would land to the feet of a Liverpool player. I also feel we are wasting a striker up front and the ball isn't sticking up front, we seem to just let Leo or Vards feed off scraps and not have any real quality possession in the final third. We need to learn to play with the one striker up front and let our attacking 3 mids show their quality. Hamer (I would like to see him play, I would pay particular attention to his aerial ability) De Laet Wes Moore Schluup (Schluup looked so much better driving forward from deep when he was switched to LB) James Cambiasso (The ball winners also responsible for covering the forward running full backs) Knockaert King Mahrez (All these players would relish in a forward role, There are hard working as well so would also help out when we do not have the ball. Also have Albrighton, Powell and possibly Lawrence on the fringes who would fit into this role nicely) Ulloa (Guy has strength, good quality feet. I've said before if Vards can improve his game with his back to goal and the ball at his feet then he would be some player!!) Come on Nige, give this a go...Please
benpicko Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 Hamer (Schmeichel will play and be captain though) Simpson Wasilewski Moore Schlupp Mahrez Cambiasso (Drinkwater on at some point) James Albrighton/Knockaert Powell Vardy/Ulloa
Guest seanfox778 Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 That 0-5 home reverse last time we were in the Premier League still stings. I'm hoping we get revenge of some sort, I'm going for a 2-1 win for us but I'm just desperately hopeful.

Come on Nige, give this a go...Please This is why in the players, manager and tactics thread, i suggested (might not be popular) a longer approach where we bypass the congested midfield and look to get bodies forward from midfield quickly. If we struggle to control midfield, struggle to retain the ball amidst the pressure of extra bodies, then maybe legitimately not wanting to engage the ball in the middle of the park might be an idea? COunter attack, ball into the final 3rd early, and look to play off the 1st or 2nd ball with high tempo. Lets face it, were looking for something, i thought it worked well at QPR for half an hour. Benteke is back for Villa as well, and with the probability of him on the pitch and/or Agbonlahor and Weimann, i honestly believe a defend deeper and quick counter game might be the way forward for us, especially if we can utilise the pace we do have, Vardy, Schlupp etc. 1-1 draw
Smiffy Fox Posted 4 December 2014 Posted 4 December 2014 Schmeichel De Laet Moore Wasyl Konchesky Albrighton Drinkwater Cambiasso James Schlupp Ulloa Massive game, we need to keep it tight and stay in the game. I would look to bring Vardy and Mahrez on in the later stages of the game when Villa start to throw more men forward. Performance goes out of the window, it's all about the result. 0-1 last minute winner will do nicely.
lgfualol Posted 4 December 2014 Posted 4 December 2014 Can James stop taking corners? Surely he is better in the box with lil Esteban taking them.
Guest LCFC_World Posted 4 December 2014 Posted 4 December 2014 This is how I would start the game. Going back to 4-4-2 like we all wanted obviously isn't working, so we have to try something different. We NEED to tighten up, so if that means losing the attacking threat that comes with RDL then so be it. Hamer- Kasper is making stupid mistakes and isn't very dominant in his box when it comes to corners. --------------------------------------------- Simpson - Better defensively Moore Was Schlupp - Was probably the best player against Southampton and i feel that this is his best position ------------------------------------------- Albrighton - Against his old club, will want to show them what they are missing King James - Havent seen these 3 play together Drinkwater Mahrez - On his day hes one of the best ----------------------------------------- Ulloa - I know hes slow, but with Albrighton whipping in his crosses he could be deadly... Ulloa PLEASE stay forward leave the defending for the defenders! Vardy to come on for either Ulloa in about the 60th minute if we are winning or for one of the CM if we are losing or drawing. COYB
kingcarr21 Posted 4 December 2014 Posted 4 December 2014 Kasper Simpson Moore Was Konch Cambiasso James Albrighton Mahrez Schluup Ulloa
NotTheMarketLeader Posted 4 December 2014 Posted 4 December 2014 I'm not sure whether Villa are better set up as an away side or not, but the first 45 minutes from them last Saturday was as good as any side to play at Burnley all season, Chelsea aside. I've fancied you over the last couple of games, but not this one. I bet your man Dyche and the hierarchy at Burnley are loving the shit we've got ourselves into after Pearson's "we are better than you are debacle"?
Donut Posted 4 December 2014 Posted 4 December 2014 Kasper Simpson Moore Was Konch Cambiasso James Albrighton Mahrez Schluup Ulloa I like this set up. The only thing about it for me is, for one Cambiasso has had 2 games in 4 days, and two games in which he had to cover a lot of ground, QPR was frantic, while Liverpool had a quarter of the game with 10 men. So whether he can play a 3rd game, or may need to come off is debateable. In this formation, its absolutely crucial that those from midfield get involved by arriving late in the box and breaking from midfield. Without the ball Schlupp and Albrighton tucking in to make things as narrow as possible to play through. Its a good looking system to frustrate while still giving us some forward momentum.
Vossen Posted 4 December 2014 Posted 4 December 2014 They'll be a few new hopeful managers at villa park !
Silverdaz Posted 4 December 2014 Posted 4 December 2014 I would like us to try three at the back with Konchesky as the left sided centreback, so something like this Schmicael Moore(right side centre back) Wasyl Konchesky (left sided centre back) Schlupp RDL James Drinkwater Cambiasso Ulloa Vardy
davieG Posted 4 December 2014 Posted 4 December 2014 Don't know if this has been posted or even if it's true but historically no Premier team has ever gone ten games on the trot without a win.
Stevosevic Posted 4 December 2014 Posted 4 December 2014 Don't know if this has been posted or even if it's true but historically no Premier team has ever gone ten games on the trot without a win. Surely Derby? Didn't they win one all season? Edit: Yes, they won the 7th game as well...just 31 without a win.
4ever and ever Posted 4 December 2014 Posted 4 December 2014 Don't know if this has been posted or even if it's true but historically no Premier team has ever gone ten games on the trot without a win. Derby went 32 games without winning
theessexfox Posted 4 December 2014 Posted 4 December 2014 Is Upson fit? If so Hamer (I wish) De Laet Upson Wasilewski Schlupp Albrighton Drinkwater Cambiasso James Mahrez Ulloa
Candidcamera Posted 4 December 2014 Posted 4 December 2014 It would be good to see Schmicael De Laet Wasyl Moore Schlupp Knockaert Drinkwater James Vardy Mahrez Ulloa
veezeeblue Posted 4 December 2014 Posted 4 December 2014 Apart from Wes cant see NP changing the team he so strongly defended on Tues though I would like to see Albrighton start, (Mahrez to left wing and Schlupp to the bench) that way we may get some proper crosses to Ulloa's head in the box Albrightons gonna be right up for it against his old team too ... his chance to prove himself if that doesnt work Wood on for Ulloa in second half
DanTheFox07 Posted 4 December 2014 Posted 4 December 2014 Im sorry But If we don't win this game Pearson is done for me I am sorry to say! I actually think Morgan not playing might be a blessing in disguise as he has cost us point's in the last few week's despite what anyone say's about him having the most block's and being captain. I still want to see Knockeart play but doubt well see him? I think he will bring nugent back in perhap's!
Donut Posted 4 December 2014 Posted 4 December 2014 Apart from Wes cant see NP changing the team he so strongly defended on Tues though I would like to see Albrighton start, (Mahrez to left wing and Schlupp to the bench) that way we may get some proper crosses to Ulloa's head in the box Albrightons gonna be right up for it against his old team too ... his chance to prove himself if that doesnt work Wood on for Ulloa in second half We dont have players who like to, or have great ability in crossing the ball. Is this not obvious? Why do people keep insisting on players doing things they arent comfortable with
E-PASS Posted 4 December 2014 Posted 4 December 2014 I hope we do win at Villa as my patience is also starting to wear thin. I am absolutely sick of checking the scores on my phone and knowing that we'll have rolled over and lost again. In fact, if we don't win 4 of the next 7 games I'm not going to bother to go to the Arsenal away game in February because we'll be pretty much down by then... I still hope we get Steve Clarke in so we can get some Chelsea players in on loan.
